I remember when someone asked you "are there any cards you think were a mistake" on stream, and you immediately answered Gumblar, so glad to see the video on it
Oh yeah, and I said summon sorc and firewall and he didn’t even hesitate to agree. Seriously though Konami printed so many broken cards just to ban them
@@melffyrabby1009 I think that they wanted to see if such effects are fine, because of the link format. Soon they realised that even with a "highly restritive" format like MR4 such effects are still broken. The entire link era was a mistake from konami, the decks which were realesed in this time were completly awseome, but the link monsters like summon sorceeres, pre-errata firewall, the knightmares, isolde, halq or gumblar were a huge mistake. But the good thing is that you learn from your mistakes and konami is doing it right now, we hadn't really broken archetypes since the end of MR4. And the archetypes which were broken and meta wasn't broken because of the new cards, but because of existing cards (except zoo's), stuff like blockdragon, s0, VFD, smoke grenade or benten were/are the problems. And yes we've got halq and linkross, but those were designed for the link format, it was not planned to release them in MR5, I even think that they hadn't even plans for MR5 while designing linkross.
@@bl00by_ I don’t think Halq was a mistake. Halq and Auroradon are currently only played in rogue decks and a few Dragon Link variants. As you can see, they’re fine without Linkross, Jet Synchron, and O-Lion.
Topologic Gumblar Dragon was released in 2018, so it's only 3 years old as of the current 2021 time. That is not nearly old enough to gamble, making it illegal according to the laws of America. That is why Gumblar is banned.
At my first local I went to I was gumblar handlooped... Surprised I didn’t quit tbh, but I’ve got the will of IRON!!! Great video, my testosterone levels have risen 300%
Gumblar was banned too late in the ocg. Interestingly enough, what caused it to be banned was the danger dark world deck, where they did azathot you then rip you for 6 while gaining advantage of the dark world monsters, since gumblar discards from your hand by effect. The deck took all events by storm and lasted no more than 3 weeks
Honestly let's just be glad it's nerfed from the anime version...that one destroyed all cards instead of just max 2, and its Extra Linked effect couldn't be negated. Also, Link Monsters couldn't be destroyed by card effects...Jesus Christ.
As the game go on, GY is more and more becoming a second hand, we see that with Orcust's, eventually a DARK Warrior generic arquetype could come up with few or no restrictions using Orcust's as base.
@@repeekyraidcero idk ik this comment is old but konami has largely moved from negates to interactions which i think makes the game much better. gumblar can never come back because it rips your whole hand basically before you even play. gy effects or not, handlooping is something that has been over powered through all of yugiohs history and nothing does it as consistently as gumblar.
I’m honestly surprised Konami even allowed this card to be printed, cards like firewall were already insanely powerful and even cards that weren’t as strong as gumblar saw constant competitive play, not only that but even Konami should know how important a single card in hand is, I mean ripping 1 card in hand is already broken as heck especially when it’s a generic card like confiscation but making a generic extra deck link monster that can rip 4 cards out of the opponents hand along with being able to potential enable your own grave yard plays is just insane
i think that they thought this card is ok to print is bc they used the anime card as a standard, the anime card destroys the whole hand on summon, has spell speed 4 destroy the whole hand when extra linked, the 3k burn and giving the other extra linked monsters protection from being destroyed so yeah the card is way waaay weaker than the anime card, maybe they thought bc they nerfed it that far it would be okay to print it
Topologic Gumblar errata be like: If this card is quadruple co-linked, you can discard your entire hand (min 4), make your opponent discard 1 card from their hand to the GY.
im just surprise people dont talk about the 6 card hand loop combo innovated by nishad. you would use levi and darkest diabolos to hand rip 2 cards along with the gumblar for 2 on your turn, then on your opponents turn you would use fairy tale snow to banish 2 thunder dragon monsters to add 2 other thunder dragon monsters to your hand as CL 2 and 3, then trigger gumblar as CL1 to rip the final 2 cards, absolutely insane shit
@@hikarimemeirooficial I mean a good deal of the time you were hand looping for 5 cuz you were seeing the levi, and if you didn’t see the diabolos you would just make hope harbinger with colossus, I still believe that this variant of danger thunder was the best to this day, even if you weren’t looping for 6 you were putting your opponent in a position where they cannot win, and the fact that the combo was non linear with no real choke point was just the icing on the cake. The deck just didn’t have a big event to preform at.

After thinking about it for a while, I would errata it to: If *the turn player* Special Summoned *a monster* to a zone a Link Monster points to, while this monster is on the field, *and both players have 1 and/or 2 cards in their hands: Destroy all cards on each player's hand.* During the Main Phase, if this card is Extra Linked and your opponent has *1 or 2 cards in their hand: Destroy all cards on your opponent's hand,* then, if they have no more cards in their hand, inflict 3000 damage to them. You can only use 1 "Topologic Gumblar Dragon" effect per turn, and only once that turn. *While this card is Extra Linked, Link Monsters you control cannot be destroyed by card effects.* Yes, I'm a hard anime fan, I want destruction and no discard, and protection, on every duel TGD was in, the turn player was the one that makes TGD activate the Infinite Destruction effect.
