  • Konstantine Zarkua is a smallholder dairy farmer in the Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti region of Georgia. He has become a Lead Farmer of an FAO Farmer Field School, which was established in his home through the financial support of the European Union (EU) and Sweden, under the fourth phase of the European Neighbourhood Program for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD).
FAO has supported Konstantine in implementing modern food safety standards in primary production and dairy processing. Through training modules, as well as other support packages, Konstantine received relevant knowledge, skills, tools, and equipment, for advancing his farm and cheesemaking practices.
Beyond Konstantine, under the EU and Sweden-funded ENPARD IV, FAO has supported more than 3 000 dairy farmers in achieving better production, better environment, better nutrition, and a better life.
