    Your so beautiful. I decided to stop wearing makeup. After long research and trial and errors I discovered high quality derma pen and started doing sessions at home. that little device changed my skin in a way that nothing else did. My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less prominent/nonexist. People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin.

    Thank you for the part about still wearing eye liner under your eye! So many over 50 make up tutorials tell us not line our lower lid/lashes because it ages you and closes the eye, but I think not lining it makes me look washed out and makes my eyes look small. Lining underneath gives your eyes emphasis and makes them look bigger and more youthful.

      Although I’m not a daily makeup user, I have found that using concealer one or two shades lighter than my foundation & blending it around the eyes opens them up, especially when applied between the the eyes, around the outer edges, and on the brow ridges. I prefer that to eyeliner, which also seems to have fallen out of fashion since the early 2000s for the most part.

    This was brilliant. Everything was just right. I love wearing makeup and not afraid to wear it and I’ve got my technique down, but at 71 I see some tweaks I needed. I so agree with what you said about underlining the eyes. I will always do that.. but that blurring it better was what I really need to do better. And I just added concealer on my lids, big improvement. I recently started moisturizering much more and that made a big difference. I ALWAYS use spf first or if it’s in the moisturizer. Your tips were very helpful. Thank you. You do look great, young and pretty. Staying trim, and active, wearing flattering clothes, using makeup to accent your features gives you confidence and a good feeling. And a smile makes a pretty face.❤️

    I gave up makeup a long time ago. I just turned 58, I feel a good moisturizer, an SPF lip balm and/or color is all one really needs. Makeup goes bad so quickly, if you don't replace it as recommended, it gets very costly.
    I don't know about everyone else, but, nope, I can't afford that. I have been married 30+ years, and
    He's not complaining. I have a Huge problem with the fundamental
    necessity of it all. I have felt that way since my college days in my 20's. I'm not criticizing people who want or feel they need makeup, I just don't feel I do, and don't really care what others might think about that. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. 😘

    Just discovered you here and while I don’t pay much attention at all to makeup tutorials and tend to just experiment to find what works for me, your very clear, down to earth and welcoming manner of speaking drew me in. You look fabulous and remind a bit of young Linda Ronstadt. You’re inspiring me to pay more attention to things like concealer, setting powder, makeup brushes (just got a few for the first time in my life last year, and I’m 68😂), etc. Thanks for being real…🥰💫🌻

    I love that you talked about just some color correction in the one area instead a full face of foundation, which can be heavy, even some of the best ones, and for some of us girls who are going thru the change, there's those super fun heat flashes, which send a flush of heat and redness over your face. If I have less on, and not a full face of foundation, it keeps the redness away, but also let's my face breathe, which ultimately keeps me cool, especially in the summers in humid Ohio!

      @@ranns2805 it isn't my responsibility to relieve your ignorance. Being unaware of societal expectations and pressures is not something about which one should boast. There's a comment below from this repressed woman about how you should use a gloss topper on matte lipsticks - how about you wear matte lipsticks if you like them? There's a starter for you. It's this insidious drip of small rules that are made to make women feel as if they have to conform, when in reality they can do and wear anything they like. You aren't clever for thinking they don't exist. Every article that suggests 'Flattering shapes for over 50s', or whatever, is trying to oppress women. I'll still be going out in a corset and 6" heels thanks, because I love my clothes and love the enormously positive reactions I get. • @chikaka2012
      @chikaka2012 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not sure I fully understand all of these comments but let’s be kind to one another. It’s not like society, especially the male-dominated side of it, is going to be kind to us older gals. And, although there may not be specific rules that oppress older women, societal values & expectations that have persisted for centuries certainly do. We are all free to live as we please and need to understand that our appearance is not what will keep us relevant in the mind of younger people. Our minds, our originality, and adaptability in the sense of keeping up with technology & evolving social norms is what keeps us relevant!

    Great video. I’m 39 but starting to have some aging happening in my face. I love makeup and can still get away with some things, but not others. • @mommy2libras
    @mommy2libras 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the eye primer recommendation. I have really crepey lids now and also live in Florida so from April to October it seems like everything melts right into those creases and makes them stand out more.
    I absolutely agree about the mascara. For my whole makeup wearing life, even if I don't put on anything else I've always worn mascara. I have long lashes and they're still pretty thick but they're light brown so you can't even see them if I don't wear something. I've spent over 30 years looking for that perfect mascara- one that isn't globby as soon as you pull ypthe brush out and that doesn't leave a bunch on your lashes to automatically smear all over. And preferably waterproof. In one of my Ipsy packages I got Tarte Lights Camera Lashes and out of the probably hundreds I've tried over the years, this is probably the best. It goes on easy and stays on, doesn't flake or end up under my eyes. My only issue is the packaging- the tube is in this leatherette type casing that has a wide flat seam all the way around longways. Makes it impossible to twist the brush as you apply it. I ended up dropping it down my face and blouse. Now it just takes a bit more care and time but I'd still prefer that stupid case be gone. I haven't tried the waterproof version yet but this one is smudge proof and it works fairly well unless I'm going to be sweating a lot or swimming.

    I love your tips. One thing I'd like to add...it helps to stay away from the more vivid eyeshadow colors we wore when we were younger. Our skin tone changes over time, and the bright plums and purples I wore in my thirties don't look good on my 50-something skin anymore. I see women still wearing the same colors they've worn for decades and it doesn't look good on their skin. I found out that the right shade of browns makes my grey eyes look blue, and makes my skin look warm and healthy. I wear other colors besides the browns, but still careful to choose colors to flatter my skin tone. I use black-brown mascara and eyeliner instead of cool black because it's more flattering to my skin, too, it seems to tone down the imperfections around my eyes....less harsh of a color.

      Very true, any age can wear color, and as skin thins our undertones can change. I always tell my clients not to forget colors that match your eyes, the focus is always on using complimentary colors. Complimentary color can bring out the primary or secondary iris color, but matching shades can make your eyes look much bigger. I figured this out doing Halloween makeup, people kept asking me where I got my contacts, they really didn’t look real. The trick to this is recognizing subtlety to get the perfect shade. I also have grey eyes, and steel grey and soft black works beautifully. I’ve gotten them to look purple using a mix of green and violet, there’s so much you can play with. I’m pretty boring most days, buts it so fun to play with colors, tones and shades. I still love color in my mid forties, and don’t forget it washes off if you don’t like it, it’s just makeup! A great trick is to try new looks before you shower or wash your face. There’s no pressure, no one will see it. You have two eyes, try diffusing variations on each and double your experiment.😊

    Excellent video. Something to think about ... I've always had a problem getting the right eyebrow color. It's between a taupe and brown. To make matters worse, because of age and illness, they're almost gone.
    But I finally found my gold. I found an eyeshadow color the exact color that's perfect for me & the few hairs left and apply it with a small angled brush.
    As you mentioned, I do sweep up a little and it looks as close to real eyebrows than anything else. And it stays on much better than pencils.

    Just found your channel today and I LOVE your practical beauty advice! 🩷 I'm 51 and wear a full face of makeup. I have nice skin but still have the same makeup process as 20-30 years ago and need a change! Going shopping asap and making some major changes to my makeup routine and products used 🤩

    You’re a beautiful. Something I may add as a former MUA who has worked with mature women… 1. SHAVE the face! Lol get those fuzzies. 2. Do a plumping BALM, not a gloss that really makes creases obvious. Buxom has a good one. 3. If you must bottom line (even tho it pulls the eye down)… use a soft color, like a neutral eyeshadow instead of a stark liner. Also, Adding little lash wispiness lashes on top corner can give a more lifted effect.

    I agree with you; it doesn't matter whether or not something is "trendy" or "in style". If it does not flatter or become you, it's not right for *you*. My mother was an expert when it came to applying make-up on her face. She was fair with ash-blonde hair over premature white. Her mantra was "less is more". In her case (and mine) that was so true. I think natural brunettes like you have much more leeway when it comes to make-up. Brava! 🥰

    As a newly menopausal mature woman, it's not that I'm not used to wearing make-up or lacking in confidence, but that my skin has changed beyond recognition and I have no idea how to adapt my skincare and makeup routine to my new complexion!

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      That is true!!! For many, the skin gets much drier, so the using moisturizer as primer can be a big help. Gentle exfoliation and heavier night cream (and niacinimide) can help with texture too! 🌸

      Amen sister!!! Been wearing make up since the 80's and trust me it ain't a lack of confidence or knowledge. It's a lack orf appropriate finishes and colors. Try finding an eyeshadow with no shimmer in it...and if you do it is light colors with a chalky finish. Companies have tried to produce makeup for older skin but it just doesn't sell. I think l'Oreal and Cover Girl had lines for older skin but they went away.

      @@ragathnor326 Same. I find most matte eye shadows emphasize the dryness. I've found a happy medium though. I use powder highlighter or satin finish eye shadow. These don't draw attention to the crepe-iness of my eyelids the way more shimmery eye shadows do. My go-to one-and-done eye shadow is Pure Anada's Ethereal Highlight (I'm pretty fair skinned, so the shade works for me.)

    I really enjoyed this video. I’m 65 and just completed a cycle of chemo - the “big” drug that caused all of my hair (head, brows, lashes and body) to depart. Can’t wait for hair to return to try these techniques. I’m currently drawing my brows on and gluing lashes one. Some days I am the “ what not to do” picture😂.

    This is an excellent video. Sometimes I ask myself “what is it on me that makes me look older than before?’. You have such good explanations about aging that it really helped make sense as to why I/we make mistakes by not considering what’s happening to our skin or look. Hope that makes sense. This is a really helpful video with straight talk. Thanks a lot! 💖🇨🇦🇨🇦

    I turned 50 last fall and, even if I have inherited my mom's awesome genes (for beautiful face), I fall under the "too much work for putting on makeup" category and rarely put on. Big mistake! I wish we could post before & after pictures so women can see for themselves the veracity of your suggestions. There is 1 comment you made, Lisa, about the time it usually takes to put makeup on. I was actually mentally making a bet with you that it took longer than 15-20 minutes. Much to my shock, you would have won the bet... twice now. No, I don't curl my lashes (yet) but I do everything else. Average time is 17 minutes. People have told me I look like I'm in my 40's!! 🥰🥰🥰

    43 here and I love Tint d'Idol. I discovered the "only put a little bit on around your nose and mouth and cheek apples" technique on my own. I am grateful I went into the store to get the correct color match, though, because most foundations start a shade too dark for me and it was at the suggestion of the gal at the Clinique counter that I try Lancôme instead. They did in fact have a couple of shades paler than what Clinique offered, thankfully.
    I'm going to try the technique for eyeshadow regarding putting it on the orbit above the lid, since I've got heavy hoods and the lid is mostly obscured.
