I’m glad they pointed out to fill the box with quality items. They don’t need a whole box of Dollar Store toys that will break in a day. And thank you for being mindful that little girls would like a doll that looks like them, which is usually not doll with long blonde hair, given where most of these boxes go.
I do understand what you are saying here's just something else to think about. Some people who want to give don't have the monetary resources to fill boxes with "quality" items, but they still want to give bc they recognize that even in their own poverty they have so much more than some of these children. I agree with much of what she says here but there may be someone out there who watches this and decides to not give bc they can't afford quality. I think the most important thing is a box that is prayed over and full of love. Also, Ukrainian children, as an example, are blonde blue eyed. So once again, prayer. In the end I think they will love it no matter the color.
This year i did 10-14. I found a puzzle that was 9 small puzzles of different puppies in pook a dot teacups. It came with a poster. I took the puzzles out of the box and put them into a canvas zip bag i got at hobby lobby. I found a coloring book full of stickers that can be colored with a multy pack of colored pencils and a sharpener. I put those items into another canvas totbag and added a fun journal. A hair brush, toothpaste and toothbrush were practical items. I found some cute craft packs. One was 3 ornaments to color and the other was window suncatchers to paint. 4 rubber stamps with butterflies and a purple ink pad. In an organza bag i put a handmade siap that smells like strawberrykiwi and 2 flavored blistix capstick. Lastly, a bracelet. I did not do a "wow" item but I was try8ng to be prayerful and spirit led so i pray the girl who receives it is wowed as she explores the mystery of bags.
Wow, I never thought of packing a safety whistle. What an incredibly simple way to ensure a child's (especially a girl's) safety on the other side of the world. I'm so glad you showed that and really appreciate the time you've taken to display and explain the intent behind each item, especially the reusable pads! When I was younger, around 12 or so, my family was doing the OCC Shoebox, and I'd wanted to pack pads for an older girl box but was shut down for fear that including them would be inappropriate. I'm so, so glad that you and others in the OCC groups not only advocate for menstrual products inclusion, but also embrace and encourage others to find creative and beautiful, aesthetically pleasing ways to include them in a child's box! I've read comments from missionaries and volunteers suggest that cotton sports bras are also great picks for the 10-14 Girls' Box. I'll definitely be including them and some nice quality reusable pads in my box this year. Again, thank you for sharing such an awesome, thoughtful box! God bless you. :)

Would you please explain why we would include such a large item when we are trying to focus on toys. I am sure there is a very important reason--do children in some culture not have anything to drink from?
Their new brochures usually come out in early summer. I think I ordered mine in June and they’re free! They also have a new display board that emphasizes fun and full boxes if anyone does displays for their church or group.

It’s hard for me to say my favorite thing because everything is interesting to me. I think I’d have to say the water bottle and all the neat little surprises you managed to pack inside it. That and the menstrual pads as it will be a great blessing to the girl who receives them. My favorite thing in the new brochure is that they want full boxes and not air. That is my goal for all our shoeboxes this year and thanks to you and several other ladies whose videos I watch, I’ve learned so much about how to pack better boxes! Hi Christy! This is a lovely box! My favorite item is the beautiful doll, and the extra dresses for her. I am confused about one thing though. You said this is the last box that you will be sending menstrual pads in. Is this because we are being asked to send more toys and make the boxes "fun"? I understood from previous videos that these pads were one of the most important items we could send to the older girls, so that they could attend school. Maybe I missed something. But I still need to pack more shoeboxes. I’m quite not done packing the rest of mine yet. And YES the menstrual pads are a cherished gift for the 10-14 girls!

I do my best to send quality items even if means can only do one box a year. I spend around £150 ($196) per box so I can't do many as I have other charities I also support. 🙂

I would love to make tangrams but Idon't understand how to laythem out to be cut. For example you show a small dark blue triangle. If I have a sheet of dark blue foam, how do I cut several small triangles? Your patterns show all pieces together even though each piece is a different color. Perhaps it is just me but I can't picture how to do this.
@sheilaeyster6036 I do it this way: cut out all the pieces in one color (example: red). Next, cut every shape in another color, etc. Then when I have one set in every color, I put 1 of each color in each set. Every set turns out different. But that’s ok because it’s the shapes that matter to make the helicopter, bird, flower, etc.
I didn’t hear anything new regarding guidelines but glad they reinforced fun and full. I guess we all have our own preferences. I love adding dolls, jewelry, games, crafts for girls. I tend not to pack menstrual pads because they do take up a lot of room. But I can definitely see a benefit. The boys I pack soccer balls, games, building toys, action figures, plush of some kind for both sexes. Boys are pretty easy for me. Girlies I have a lot of fun. Pretty things. DT keeps cost down for somethings, coloring books, journals, puzzles, matching games, books for all ages, cards, dice, and more, pretty solid filler items to add more fun. School supply items I try to get everything at back to school price discounts. Inflation makes it hard though. I’ve cut back on the number of boxes unfortunately. I’m done for 2024. Starting on next year.
Soccer is incredibly popular globally, do not just pack balls for boys. Even if she doesn't play soccer, she can play many other ball games with it. Girls in many countries have less opportunities for sports in clubs so they are often forced to play on their own if they are interested in it so a soccer ball might be even more important to give to a girl than a boy who might be allowed to play soccer in a soccer club or at school.
@@ellalella1 Yes I agree. This year I packed the Barbie doll in her soccer outfit and ball with a soccer ball in my 10-14 girl box. It was a fun box to pack. I’ll do more next year. I pack the smaller kick ball and pump in both my girl and boy 2-4 boxes. My eyes keep getting bigger and the shoeboxes smaller 🤣 hard to fit everything I’d love to give each child. The testimonials given by shoebox recipients are so uplifting. What they say was the favorite item in their shoebox gift always amazes me and so many still have that item and today know Jesus. Something so little that can lead to something so great keeps me packing.
Her underwear is in a red zipper pouch-5 pairs. I didn’t unzip the pouch. That’s probably why you missed it. Are you packing menstrual pads too? It’s so exciting that shoeboxes with menstrual pads are being sent to these older girls!. ❤
How sad you have to tell people to make sure to send new and quality items. Do these people who have been sending used items show up to kids bday parties with used or low quality items? I would think not. This is no different, these are GIFTS.

My favorite thing to pack in shoebox gift is a puzzle. If I am doing a themed shoebox, I will put one in that goes with the theme.
