  • So my favourite SOVT (Semi Occuluded Vocal Tract) exercise is the Lip Bubble/Trill, but this one is a very VERY close second. I just love how it works the tongue and gets it nice and stretched and relaxed. Like most things they are a skill and skills can be learned and practised to be improved so do not worry if you can't get them immediately. Just channel your inner cheeky child, and practise!
This video is a little different to other Sing'n'Mix videos as it starts with me talking you through how I do tongue trills. I like to think of the really nasal sound UNH with very loose and relaxed tongue gently clamped against your top lip/teeth. It requires a lot more air pressure than other SOVTs so we do a few choo choo train sounds to find our powerhouse. And we'll put those tongue trills to practise with a simple arpeggio warm up. Because I am all about the warm ups!
This video is part of the MusicForMy... Sing'n'Mix, a pick'n'mix of 5 minute vocal warm ups that you can build your own warm up sessions with. Do one, do five, whatever you have time for. They are all guaranteed to grow your voice.
New videos come every week so let me know in the comments what you'd like to hear about (Technique? Song breakdowns? Singer analysis?) We're a democracy at MusicForMy... so you get to chose!

I agree, sooo relaxing!! And great tip about them being wet. They're not pretty, but they're so so good for the voice❤️

If you can get it that's the first step! Arpeggios will come. So keep practising and don't worry so much if you lose the raspberry and it becomes a hum. Just keep the attempt going as eventually it will happen❤️
