The origins of Vico are not very clear, even if they have been assigned to a pre-medieval, Roman or even Italic age.
It wasn't possible to place the first origins of Vico in Lazio in historical times, lacking certain sources. The first documents which we can trust date back to the beginning of the 11th century. A.D.
    𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀
The origin of the inhabited centers is certainly prior to the 3rd century. B.C. and as a testimony of the occupation of this region, we have the mighty urban fortifications (the date of their construction,
still object of study, it oscillates between the 6th and 3rd centuries. B.C.). Studies led to the conclusion that only some parts of the walls can be dated to the 5th century. while most of these must be attributed to the 4th century. B.C.
    𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀
In the middle of the 13th century Vico depended directly on the church and perhaps also in the middle of the previous century, as a bull of Alexander III (1159 - 1181) would seem to demonstrate.
Since the 14th century a papal vicar has been in Vico with the functions of governor.
Various disputes between Vico and the Monastery of Trisulti happened between 1255 - 1256.
Real struggles with the city of Alatri for territorial issues erupted in 1282 - 1283.
Pope Martin IV (1281 - 1285), after various difficulties, succeeded in imposing his own authority, ordering the people of Alatri to withdraw and the people of Vico not to attack anymore.
Later the town of Alatri peacefully managed to acquire the alliance of Vico (1306). During the pontificate of Martin V (1417 - 1431) Vico passed to the Colonna family.
    𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀
The feudal power of the Colonna, except for brief parentheses due to the confiscations of Paul III, the first Roman Republic, the French occupation, lasted from February 1st 1427 until 1816 and Vico from that year became part of the Papal State and of the recently established kingdom of Italy.
In 1872 - Vico changed its name to Vico in Lazio (decree of Vittorio Emanuele II of 3.10.1872).

Happy you enjoyed Vico Sharon. Indeed, some details are very pretty. One can assume if the citizens take care or not in these cases about their house but also about the streets where they live in. I truly liked the town, a "detached" atmosphere I think

I just got amazed on how they built most of the houses and building with very well carved stones rather than regular bricks. Also the pavement of every street has some kind of design. I think they were concerned in building a beautiful City. Well, they've got it.
