  • An essential truth most of us overlook is that we are wired with a set of interests that are just as basic as our desire to marinate in pleasure and avoid pain. What are these interests? We are wired to be social in mutually enriching ways. Because without a healthy social network, our life becomes an intolerable burden, for it’s not what we have, but who we have in our lives, that really matters.
As human beings, our crowning glory isn’t critical intelligence - e.g. breakthroughs in science, technology, medicine, etc. What then is it? It’s emotional intelligence, for it enables us to live and work well with others. For us to be emotionally intelligent, we need a healthy self-image, because the quality of our life and relationships is inseparable from how well we perceive and relate to ourselves and the world around us.
Through mindfulness we are able to heighten our self-image, which then inevitably enhances our emotional intelligence and leads to the blossoming of mutually uplifting relationships with the world around us. It is then that we are able to call out the infinite resources we are born with for designing an exceptional life that is of great value to all.
The bliss of living in this vibrant and perceptive manner nourishes us to such an extent that we are no longer enticed or swayed by worldly pleasures, possessions or accomplishments, that have distracted and derailed us from knowing our magnificence for lifetimes.
When we learn to recognise what is always before our eyes - the imperative need for us to be spiritually awake through the diligent study and practice of the Dharma, under the skilled guidance of a wise and loving teacher and close friendships with those who are dedicated to being spiritually awake - the truth of our immaculate nature is revealed to us, and it is then that rest of our life becomes the best of our life, for we are attuned to the Love that moves the Cosmos.
