    Wow!! I’m so sad that my son’s high school counselor didn’t share many of these local scholarships with him. We’re relatively new to the community and I know of some that have been awarded but some we didn’t even know about. He starts college in the fall and we’re still searching for scholarship money. 😢

    I appreciate your help. I googled "New York community foundation scholarships" and I didn't really see much. To be honest, it's extremely overwhelming. My son is currently a Junior who has an IEP, which concerns me. Aside from that, I'm a single mom. His father passed away in 2020. So we would definitely benefit from scholarships. His school College counselor hasn't been as helpful which is extremely stressful. She started to talk about community college and that is not the route we want to go. It's been very frustrating.

    I have a hard time believing there are any scholarships for the average kid. My oldest is currently a college sophomore and we are paying almost 100% full price. She received a small merit scholarship of $2000 a year for her grades/ACT and gets $200/yr from her department. The only financial aid given from the government was a small work-study and loans. She applied for numerous legit scholarships - ones that required essays, videos, original art/poetry, recommendations, the works and yielded nothing. I honestly believe that if you are not a super genius, super talented, or have some rare quality. There are no scholarships for you. The average kid from a family with an average income will pay loans until they die.

      My daughter found herself many scholarships when she started college. She received up to $34k in scholarships with her 4.1 GPA from HS and kept it through her first year of college by keeping her GPA until COVID happened and everything went online. she is a hand on and visual learner and it became really hard for her and her GPA dropped to 3.80. Still kept some of the scholarships though. We didn't pay a dime out of pocket and she received enough money for herself to save.

    Thank you so much for this video. My oldest will be a junior in high school for the upcoming school year , and lately it's been very challenging trying to win a "no-essay" Scholarship and now I know why. Today, I'm activating her membership to join Honor Society so we can start applying for scholarships through their organization. I've also found some that we can apply for that the actual state offers and the school district as well. I'm going to browse around to see if our city offers some as well. This is a long road, so legitimate information will help.

    My son is still in high school and attends a private Christian school in the next county over from where we reside. When looking for local scholarships, I’m noticing most require him to be in attendance at our city high school. Then, when I google the local foundation scholarships in the county he goes to school, it often states he needs to be a resident of that county or attend their public school. Any insights? Thank you!

    How do you weed out scams when it comes to the need based/scholarships that ask for an SAR or other documents with personal information?

    • @TheScholarshipSystem
      @TheScholarshipSystem  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most need-based scholarships will ask for SAR or tax returns to verify the family's income. You can research the sponsoring organization to verify that they are legitimate. Most scholarship applications consist of application form, letters of recommendations, transcript, essays, and a list of extracurricular activities/awards. If they don't ask for these types of documentation, please be cautious.

    • @TheScholarshipSystem
      @TheScholarshipSystem  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many scholarships house their application in various national portals. Therefore, they require that you register and log-in to that portal. You could try and find the scholarship application directly from the source and/or organization that sponsors it.
