Time with a different mentality of truckers. No sandals, no earrings, no sloppy dress, fun, friendliness and consideration. Cabovers ruled the roads.

I drove a 87’ COE double bunk Freightshaker. 400 Cummins, 13 speed Eaton, dual air-ride seats, in a beautiful dark brown color, with a Utility refer wagon. The guy I drove for was leased to a company that back hauled for Aldi in Batavia Il, mostly produce. It was truly a joy to drive. “Big old brown Freightliner, don’t take me to far away”.

I hauled mining equipment mostly. Lots of off road deliveries to gold mines and silver mines and copper mines. Cab overs are ugly, and have always been a bad way to truck.

@@rayray4192 Why you gotta go ripping on folks? I drove in every state except Vermont, for ten years and drove Fla. and Ca. Az. Tx. mostly out of Chicago. Then I had enough. I drove a few conventionals, yeah they ride nice. So what? And dark brown metal flake looks great. Enjoy your life.

Worked in the Freightliner development shop on Columbia Blvd. in Portland when they developed these trucks. Originals had vertical headlights to fit the radiators. Later owned and drove one of these with a 3408 CAT and 13 Speed. High rear end gears never used top 2 gears. Would easily do over 100. 43 years OTR Mostly West coast. Great memories.

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Some may say, The glory days of trucking. Well, it was some hard work, but I know many truckers who made some good money back in the day! I feel that most of these trucks are better than most of what we have today. At least there’s NO DEF & such! Well, and there’s no cabovers today either. How is that!? These were some wonderful pictures! I saw a couple of Freightliners that I didn’t know they made, but I would take a couple of them, no questions asked! Cabovers Rule!! Beautiful rigs!! My dad started trucking in the 1930s. All of us boys have gotten into trucking as well. What a JOY! Trucking has changed quite a bit since then, but some things have stayed the same.🥰🤩✌️

Since I was a boy for some reason I favoured cab overs. I like the big steep cliff like wall look to the design. They always looked big and imposing and real somehow to me. The way a truck should look. Kenworth or Mack. Freightliner. Ford. White. You name it. Only in more recent times I seem to have moved to conventional or bonneted trucks. Just personal preference I guess.

Trimac had one of the early KT 450’s in one of these, we had to remove the fan from it. The fan is gear driven, and Horton didn’t have a clutch fan
designed for it yet. The engine was running too cool. The rads, not sure how many passes, but was huge sq inch area. I think Freightliner realized
with the engine manufacturers that they didn’t require all that capacity, and discontinued the Power Liner. If you ever saw the foot well on the
passenger side of the cab, I don’t think you could stand up a golf bag. I think who ever designed the front bumper for the Power Liner had a good
eye. Not just a slab of chrome that is so typical on todays “ large cars “. The same goes for the “ Truck Mate “ bumper option on 70, and 80’s
Kenworths. It looked good on a K100. It was similar to the “ gull wing “ bumper, but more refined in its lines.
