I agree this is an awesome lens and I've had great results with astro and landscape photos. It's very sharp. DISAGREE that it has poor build quality and I did drop it once (it rolled off a car seat and onto the road) and suffered one minor scuff mark. The lightness of the lens probably saved it! There's nothing wrong with high quality durable plastic!
I wouldn't consider this a budget lens. I own it and it's my 2nd most expensive prime. Only my Nikon 58mm cost more... But I personally think it's the best lens hands down
Dear Marino congratulations on your tuorial, you have been very clear and understandable. I would like to have your own advice on the Nikon AF-S 35 mm f/1.8 G ED lens. Looking forward to your response I greet you cordially.
Much appreciated! The Nikkor 35mm is a great lens lens too and reasonably affordable. It all comes down to what you are focusing on when shooting. Do you tend to shoot more landscapes or portraits? You can check out my 35mm comparison video I done in the past between the sigma and tamron to get an idea of the type of frames you can achieve with a 35mm. th-cam.com/video/7aKSgYih4zs/w-d-xo.html
I dont understand how people can say a lens is of poor quality just by tapping on the plastic lens body. plastic does not alway mean poor quality, people.
That Is just a way for me to feel the type of material the lens is made of. It is common for lens manufacturer to use Polycarbonate to keep the lens lightweight which is not necessarily bad but definitely weaker than a metal construction lens.
+Tejaswi Naidu they are very much alike. The both produce great quality images, however the only major differences starting with the filter tread sizes for the 24 is 72mm and for the 20 is 77mm. If you already own lenses with same filter tread I would pick whatever matches to save up and use one set of filters size. Then the field of view for the 24 is 84 degrees and the 20 with 94 degree. The extra 10 is what made me want to get this lens because it puts this lens closer to am extreme wide angle lens with a little more distortion introduced.
Edoardo Marino Thank you for the replying, I actually wanted to shoot the landscapes and general photo shoots using the 20mm lens. By the way there is another lens from Sigma 20mm f1.4, could you please let me know which one would be better.
+Tejaswi Naidu yes! It is slightly sharper on the corners if compared shooting at 1.8. However, my most turn down is the weight of 950grams. Compared with the Nikkor at 357grams. I rather shoot with something lighter any day.
Unfortunately no because the Z6 has a the new Z lens mount because it is a mirror less camera. In order to adapt older Nikon lenses you will need an adapter from Z to F mount.
It will work with FTZ adapter. FTZ allows to use probably all Nikon F mount lenses on Nikon Z mount. It costs about 250-300 USD and keeps all features of the Nikon F lenses.
The 20mm is definitely sharper and also 2 stops brighter than the 16-35. However the 16-35 is a bit more versatile giving you more focal length options and the sharpness is pretty good all around too. It comes down to your shooting purposes whether on not you will need the extra range or extra light if you plan on experimenting with astrophotography. Let me know if this helps.
Thanks for the response I’m one of those who very love the prime lenses , I’ve got the 85mm 1.8 G for my portraits and soon the 35 for the street photography and i was thinking should i buy a prime lens landscape or is it a stupid idea im very sorry my English is not good
@@husseinfarked7345 not at stupid idea at all. I love and own Primes as well and use my 20 strictly for landscape and architecture photography. On the other hand, If you are investing more towards your gig kit for shooting weddings, events, etc. Than it's a better decision to go with zooms. Yes, Primes tend to be lighter too but end of the day carrying a lens multiple focal lenghts will definitely save you time from having to swap lenses constantly and not running the risk of missing the shot.
Do you think its worth to get this lens for a DX Nikon (Nikon D5200)? I am confused between the Samyang 14mm, Sigma 17-50mm, Nikon 10-20mm, and Nikon 20mm 1.8. If you can please give me some insights on these lenses that would be great! Thank you.
I would go with the Nikkor 10-20mm for the type of camera you have. Because of your camera sensor size you would have to multiply then focal length by 1.5 therefore the 20mm will turn out to be a 30mm which in my opinion will not be considered a wide lens anymore. On the other hand the 10-20 will be able to give you the flexibility to be from 15mm-30mm focal length allowing you to be able to capture wide-mid angles plus the VR on that lens is always a bonus. The only down size is not having the fixed wide open aperture but it would not matter if your shooting outdoor on bright sunny days or at dusk with a tripod and using long exposure. Let me know if this helps!
@@EdoardoMarinoDodi Thank you for the very quick reply! Much Appreciated! I would also like to know how does the sharpness between the Nikon 10-20mm and Nikon 20mm compare, in you opinion? Also what about the barrel distortion? I have seen that Nikon 20mm has very less distortion. I am more drawn towards the Nikon 20mm because of its 1.8 aperture, however if their sharpness are the same then I will just go with the Nikon 10-20mm.
Distortion is not too bad at 10mm since you will be using it on a dx camera but you can always turn on the on-camera distortion corrector which will take it away completely or fix it in post using either Lightroom or Photoshop. At 20mm you should not see any. Based on pictures and reviews I saw the sharpness is pretty good. Not just the 20mm but any prime lens will always be slightly sharper.
hi sir, can you tell me is it worth change my tamron24-70 f2.8 G1 change with nikkor 20mmf1.8 for landscape and astrophoto?? i have also nikkor 24-120mm f4 for landscape, portraits..
sadettin gezer I believe that it is worth the investment since you already have a standard telephoto lens in your bag. If you have the money the best lens above all would always be the Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 ED for both Astro and landscape. The Nikkor 20mm is obviously much lighter and compact which makes it alot easier to carry around with similar optical quality. Let me know if this helps.
It's still pretty expensive for me to purchase. Any other recommendations closer to this in terms of quality especially that I'm interested in astrophotography?! Thanks
Chafik Boumehdi Check out the Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC - I never had the chance to use it, but from what I have seen, people love it for Astrophotography.
Yes of course, glass elements in groups especially when dealing with a lens that has a built in feature like VC or VR do purposely move in order to compensate camera shakes and vibrations. However, prime lenses especially without VC or VR when compared do not tend to sound the same when shaken up.
Awesome! Yes so you will need the wide angle adapter ring of 77mm for 100mm. Make sure when you buy it it specifically says 77mm wide angle adapter ring. These rings are a bit different than the standard rings giving you a less gap therefore it should help control vignetting alot better. If you have any lens above 28mm use the standard rings to save some money. Let me know if you need anything else.

Excellent! Thank you so much for your feedback 🙏
is really the build material doesn't seems like tough or weather sealed?
Correct, it has great glass but with a not so great protection body.
presentation is awesome
Great lens, love mine. Nice channel man!
+Neil Ford thank you!
Very well shot video pal...
Thank you!
Just curious - you show the lens mounted on a D7100 then say that it works well on a D810. Do you use it on both?
Correct! when I use it with the D7100 it gives me a focal length of 30mm with better edge to edge detail.
Nice review, what do you think about the 24 F1.8G from nikon

If doing landscape is a prime lens better than zoom lens?
If you know your favorite focal length than in my opinion the prime lens will give you a better slight image and lower distortion.

Do you use any lee filter adapter rings for landscape photography on this lense? I don’t know which ring to buy to prevent vignetting:(
Hey Victor, which lens are you using the Lee's filters with?
Edoardo Marino the Nikon 20mm f1.8g. And I don’t know which adapter ring to buy because there three different 77mm rings.
