Thanks for the great video. Your element videos have really helped me a lot! The pilot wiper switch conversion is amazing

Philosophical discussion: You wanted LED so you installed them then resolved the first problem with a flasher and encountered another problem which was potentially resolved with power resistors which caused a third problem. Each step can be described as "measure/counter-measure". Ultimately, your project was "terminated by frustration". But, we all learned a whole bunch. I now know not to mess with LEDs anywhere on my older vehicles. Fun Fact: Here in Canada, we have DRL's which run the high beams on low-voltage. So, would snazzy LEDs headlights work on my E? Most likely, no. The dome lights and the licence plate lights are actually LED and they work as they should - who knew?

I fixed these lights till they stopped working... and if I take the time to sort all this out and make all the changes needed to run LEDs.... what have I really gained?

@@clintsearcy3252 Not a whole lot, really because those flashers are for the benefit of other drivers so they know what you intend to do and you can't see them from inside anyway. A headlight upgrade to LED, though, has a direct functional benefit to you, the driver, so you can see way better at night. Thoughts about doing that? If US models don't have DRL then it could be a chinch.

@@canuckfixit7722 I put LED headlights in the kids Mitsubishi but not in the Element. I'm not a big fan of how blinding they tend to be. Beside, After I hit the deer and had to install new headlight buckets I can see just fine. We will see if I still say that in a few years.

Clint, every element works different. You do the same lights on different cars and get different results. What worked for me was to take the original honda OEM flasher out and cut the "light out" circuit. Got it off of element owners forum. My turn signal flasher flashes about 1.5 times faster then the stock OEM but I dont have to cut any oem wires or put in any resisters that may burn up some wiring. It cost me $15 for a used OEM flasher. If it doesn't work for you, you're out $15 and you can always put your original flasher back in. It was a lot easier to do then all the wiring mods you went thru. Again everyone's element will react different but it works for me.
    And Maiden Rocks!

That's good to know. Maybe I'll try this again some day but for now I'm just moving on.

Clint, just replaced every bulb on my Element(s) with LED. I got LASFIT 7443 and 7440 Error Free Anti Hyper Flash bulbs. Not cheap but bright as anything and no hyperflash with OEM flasher relay.

@@clintsearcy3252 The Lasfit bulbs are direct replacement for the incandescent bulbs. They have the load internal. I just pulled the glass bulbs and put these in place. I think the brightness and longevity with no modifications needed was the gain in my case.

Clint do you have a trailer light converter on your Element? You were likely masking another issue with the resistors, the brake lights are just a dumb on/off from the pedal switch so you probably have a backfeed problem somewhere and the LED bulbs were sensitive enough to react to it. It only takes a few volts on that brake light input wire for the computer to kick you out of cruise, and it only takes a little water or corrosion to bridge two pins together. Worth a look just to see what the heck is going on.

In this case I don't think the LEDs were worth the trouble.
I wanna c u install a full EPS rack &an electric, scroll style, heat pump2 simplify the accessory drive. No electric over hydraulic PS w/the Nissan or Toyota MR2 brushless pumps either; full electric.
U can find most of the components in later model sister vehicles. I think that u r up2 it.

Now why would I want to swap in a electric power steering system?

@@clintsearcy3252 I’m glad u asked. There’re many reasons 4this modernization already in progress across the passenger vehicle landscape &beyond as follows:
      1. Elimination of parasitic drag
      2. Elimination of hydraulics (reservoir, suction& pressure hoses, ps pump &it’s associated drive)
      3. Simplification of the engine bay promotes ease of maintenance, modularity 4future alternate drivelines etc.
      4. Lane keeping assist, 4whl steering &other self driving features interface directly w/EPS.
      5. EPS’ Infinite programming capabilities demonstrated by BMW &others R&D to maintain driver’s feel& connection w/the road& eliminate numbness.
      6. EPS has been perfected.
      7. EPS is more reliable than hydraulics over time.
      8. EPS is lighter than hydraulics.
      9. Rack& pinion steering is more precise than integral recirculating ball steering.
      10. More than 98% of all passenger vehicles sold 2day hv some form of EPS onboard.
      11. Elimination of PS hydraulics &HVAC clutter in the engine bay also clears the way 4belt drive forced induction systems or inter cooled turbo charging, etc. It also makes engine tranny swaps w/newer sister platforms easier. Basically I’m creating my vision of what a 2025 version of an Element should b.
This question is an Engineer’s dream. A quick look under the hood of a late model Honda CRV will reveal the cleanliness of the EPS system &the resulting reduction in engine bay clutter. HVAC is next!

hey clint, I have a 2003 DX which does NOT have cruise control. I love my element, but the lack of cruise control has always been a bummer. If I could find a compatible element with cruise control at a junk yard, how hard do you think it would be to add it to my car?
