Wow Mikey you look like you just got off tour with Ministry. Love it! Thank you both for your valid viewpoints. The contrast of the two of you really benefits the viewing audience. Much appreciation.
Wasn’t Pilium was at Axpona this year? Pretty sure I saw Jay post a video of that room.. Bayz is another Rhapsody imported speaker brand, and likely a better match for the room than Alsyvox would’ve been, so those were showcased instead.
Jay, you showed a video of the Bayz speakers from Axpona, so you have laid eyes on Pilium, which was powering the Bayz. (And the Pilium Achilles weighs 260 lbs, so not a piece you want to just ship around for anyone to have a listen to, unless they’re an established customer or reviewer for a major publication.) Pilium was shown at Axpona in the Bayz Audio room. If you want to hear Alsyvox or Bayz or Diesis, and Pilium (and Taiko Extreme server) you are welcome to visit me in Portland, OR (or any of the Rhapsody Listening Rooms across the country.) Bayz was at Axpona so was supported by the local (Chicago) listening room. If the importer believed there was return on investment from having a room for each of those brands of speakers (3 rooms) I’m sure he’d pull the trigger. I personally did trade shows for my small company for many years, they are very expensive. I ultimately found better use of my marketing dollars. That said, you “might” find me with Pilium and Alsyvox at the PNW Audio show. I might consider it just to experience being an exhibitor at a hi-fi show. (And, just to be factual, the Botticelli is US $92K, the Xternal crossover is US $30k). But I can assure you my own room is a much, much better location to audition these brands. I have a couple youtube vids, one of Bayz, one of Diesis (in my listening room) - but I’m not trying to build a channel like Jay. Maggie would need to switch up in a major way. Lots of things Alsyvox does other ribbon panel mfg's do not do, not just building with a stout steel frame, but using rare-earth magnets on both sides of the ribbon, and getting the 20mm excursion. A Botticelli weighs 250 lbs, other panels are flyweights in comparison. Finally, I know the importer for DartZeel, he also lives in Portland. He lent me a Model 108 amp while I was waiting for my Pilium amp to arrive. (At that time we’d never even met each other.) It played very nicely with my Pilium pre-amp, and there is no doubt the DartZeel is the real deal. Like all components, some won’t like it, but others will find it sublime. All I can say is listen for yourself to anything you’re interested in, don’t take the word of someone else (unless you trust them implicitly.)
Hi Bob, Ive got a client in Portland.. Not sure Ill make it to Lous show, but he invited me at AXPONA, so perhaps Ill show up for a listen. Id like to hear some of these special listening rooms.
Dartzeel is being repped by Jonathan Tinn exclusively in the US. Jonathan has demoed at various shows where he typically matches Dartzeel with the Evolution Acoustic speakers he also reps. Alsyvox were first brought to the attention of the forums by yours truly, wherein I was summarily banned due to the fact that most horn based speaker lovers felt threatened, lol. I have heard all of these brands, each has their strengths and of course, their weaknesses. I do think that the pricing strategy is more up to the manufacturer than what Mikey would like us to believe, albeit the dealer obviously does have a lot of say as well! I have a good friend who was the first or second owner of a pair of Botticelli’s here in the US. Loves the speakers and is telling me he is now getting off the merry go round. Also, I think you guys should remember that these shows are expensive for the dealers and the manufacturers to display at, with no guarantee that any sales will be forthcoming! Plenty of work and cost, with many times just a bunch of gawkers who are never going to be your customer…so many come to the conclusion…why bother?
As a Dartzeel 108 user, it is one of the best amps that I have owned. I agree it is not as powerful as some other brands that Jay mentioned before but it is very musical and exquisite sounding
@@wraspire As a Boulder 3060 user, I have heard dartZeel amps several times and can stand their pretty "musical, exquisite" distortion for about 10 minutes -- clarity and soundstage are not to be found. Fremer and Heilbrunn use them as their references, both with big Wilson speakers, so I bear that in mind when reading their reviews.
on one of your video's from the show was a pillium power amp with omnidirectional speakers [wich you didn't like the sound],well i don't know the speaker but i can tell you the pillium monoblocks sound amazing ,a friend of mine has them with magico s 7 ,luxman 900 u pre amp ,rose streamer\dac ,shunyada cables , its magic .....
I may not agree with all of your opinions, but you've got the honesty and guts to put it out there, good, bad or indifferent. Because of that, I will always like and give your videos a "thumbs up"! You are doing some really great work, and I hope that your channel continues to grow and prosper!
OCD Mikey is the exclusive US seller for several brands and he did not have a room or display his brands. Shows are really expensive, and hard to justify in net new sales revenue.
I travel to the end user my friend and demo at thier home. Shows are a waste to me. If I did however have an extremely "Hot Topic" item like Alsyvox, Id have no choice but to rep properly.
Dartzeel doesn't make any crossovers. You probably saw the crossovers for the Evolution Acoustics Speakers that are often paired with them as Darzeel and Evolution Acoustics have the same US distributor.
Mikey, on darTZeel the main reason they have not been at shows in the past few years is simple - COVID, a decision which must be respected. darTZeel is owned and paid for (fact) by some of the top reviewers in the world. No doubt, darTZeel is expensive by any standard, however, it does create a unique sound, especially for solid-state, and is built to last a lifetime. For those that like the sound of their gear it is truly end-game gear. FYI demand is so strong for darTZeel that lead times run 3-4 months at present. FYI, the stand-alone crossovers you referred to and saw at te Sow in Anaheim a few years back were not darTZeel products but rather a new speaker product being introduced by Evolution Acoustics. The same thing I offered to Jay I offer to you. You provide a valuable service to your viewers but a disservice when you get the facts wrong. I'm happy to chat about any of these topics with you anytime. We are all in this together!
It is a shame that we can't access these obscure brands and give them a listen. By the same token sometimes I think that we already have great brands like Magico, Wilson, YG, Boulder, Gryphon, Luxman, DD that we probably not missing anything.
DISCLAIMER, we are a dealer for darTZeel in Toronto, Sonic Artistry. We did attend Axpona this year. I do agree and would have loved to have seen darTZeel played at Axpona. That is the choice of the US distributor, Blue Light Audio. They did show at the last one in 2019, I believe they showed with the CTH-8550 and the LHC-208. darTZeel WILL be showing at Munich they will be in Atrium 4 Room F113. They will be showing with two pairs of 468 driving the Stenheim Ultime 3 with Active crossover. Döhmann audio will supply the Helix 1 Mk II turntable for the room. It will be full acoustically treated by VDM Sound Group out of Italy. The group is putting their best foot forward. We do show with the darTZeel gear at the Toronto or Montreal shows ourselves. Our choice and we enlist the help from darTZeel or other manufactures we are working with. Very difficult for darTZeel to do a show without local support on their own. I too would have loved to have seen Alsyvox. My thought on this is that it not the dealers responsibility to do the shows. It is the responsibility of the manufactures or their distributors to do it. It is their job to create awareness of their products, complete advertising, do the shows and drive the business to the dealers. The deal we need to have the product available to demonstrate under the best possible conditions. Where there is not distributor the manufacture can work with a dealer to do a local show. The dealer humps he gear to the show and sets it up with the manufacture in attendance ideally. I also saw OCD Mikey mention that Luke Manley was not at the show. He was and was represented in the Nordost Room Schaumberg F. He was omnipresent and in the room almost the entire time. Unfortunately it was a gigantic CUBE and really challenging acoustically. Great job Jay, keep the videos coming! Agree or not, I always enjoy them.
helo mike, ive been watching your videos for a while now. your videos are great and taught me a lot! i have one question though, does rca cable length matter? ive search the the answer on internet and many say yes many say no. whats your personal opinion about this matter? thanks a lot :)
Maybe it's time to recognize that the U.S market is no longer the "biggest & badass" market, go to shows in Europe or in the Far East and you'll see all the exotic brands that skip U.S audio shows.
Alsyvox was at the 2019 RMAF, Botellicelli speaker with some other Italian amp and DAC ,room was too big but went back 6 or 7 times. OPEN!!! sound stage , faster and punchy bass , yes BASS, they played several very good recorded big band tracks that where as if you where there, Been in this crazy hobby since the mid 70's , Wilson Maggies, Apogrees, Cellos, Dunlevys , Martin Logins, Aventegarde. Soundlab, and many more, if I had the money and the room those would have come home with me. Just flat out MUSIC, I'm a season ticket holder to SRS in Ca. and this speaker is the closes thing I've heard to my row J middle seat
Jay, as You showed different rooms at the expona and asked them to play one same song, I found still through YT the Burmester system sounding really impressive, compared to others. How did You like the Burmester? I´m kinda curious, because Burmester is quite known here in Germany.
With all due respect , I feel that darTZeel is already selling amps to their high end circle of buyers . From their Business Standpoint , they have their customers buying their amps , and don’t need to do any more showings or advertising .
Jay is like the little kid eating ribs trying to get a seat at the adult table and pissed when they tell him to wait his turn or learn a little bit more about the high end first.
I'm trying to understand your vantage point - because you haven't heard them at a show and / or because they haven't agreed to loan you gear is a ding to the company?
To be very fair and with current affairs, ALL TRADE SHOWS ( of big toys for big boys) have drastically changed, over the years. Too much Politics and Drama and the extremely high costs of booking space, to keep the have nots away. This statement is not only coming from me but from other guys who are after the big toys. Thanks guys for sharing. Peace.
Mickey and Jay in my experience watching them the last year , Mikey is more of a listening to music and criticizing other equipment it’s normal, Jay on the other hand, more of a listening to his gear like most of us. that’s my impression that’s how I interpret the two of them I could be wrong , but jay looks like really a nice person , just an opinion.
Some brands do not have to be sold they have enough demand without it. With those shows just a small percentage of customers that are not store owners have the money to be buying those products. The rest are typically dreamers that have a basic system hoping to one day own the high end stuff. It's just like a Rolls Royce. You can buy it new for 400k to 600k or wait a few years and get it close to half price. I am not cheap at all but got my Monitor Audio flagship speakers for 14k a pair brand new where the3y go for 30k plus. The dealer had them on the showroom floor for a few months and people wanted to buy them but their wife's would only allow smaller speakers in the house. So dealer wanted space for their practical smaller lower line choices most customers would buy. For people on a budget the rich people get the latest toys at the store (new audio gear) in about every 6 months to 1 year and trade in their old stuff (typically only 1 to 2 years old). Dealer gives them so much for it on the trade up. So you can buy stuff in many cases still with a warranty at a great price from the dealers.
I wonder how many audiophiles who buy expensive gear, actually go to a concert hall to hear live unamplified music. Those who go to unamplified concerts regularly, will actually choose equipment very differently from most audiophiles.
Hey Mickey looks like your going to a Woodstock concert! I haven't had hair that long since high school when I bought tickets for Pink Floyd [Dark Side Of The Moon Tour].
LOL, I tried getting baked at the RMAF and the weed these days is not like when I grew up.. I dont want to trip my balls off... lol, so no bakey bakey any longer...
Thanks for your thoughts about AXPONA. I thought the same thing. I was disappointed as well. I've heard the hype of about how great it was. I didn't see it. No plans to go back next year
I think the reason you don’t see brands like Alsyvox or Pilium or DartZeel is that at a show people will be able to compare directly with products right across the room or down the hall and these companies know that their products are over priced.
Dartzeel displays at Munich every year. That is likely where their customers go. And it is a Pagani. While it has great electrical chops, it is also engineering art, just like a Pagani. You won't see Pagani at the Detroit audio show. Dartzeel is truly a boutique. There are like 8 people in the company if you don't include the guys down the road that do all the CNC work.
Overrated show off gear IMHO with ridiculous pricing because Swiss hands put the parts together…and as Switzerland is a high labor cost country…there you have it.
I think it is beautiful, and functional. Watch Fremer's factory tour and see if you do not agree. I build all my own stuff. I use the best parts and silicon dampen every capacitor and CNC all the metal bits. I mount caps in silicon inside soft wood. It makes a little difference in sound and it feels like you have built the best. That is what these guys do and YES, they use overpriced Swiss labor. Mikey should get it. If you build it yourself for pennies on the dollar... great. If you are rich and want the best, send a big wad of cash to Switzerland for a pair of these monos. And don't expect to see them schlecking them in Chicago.
Mike Lavigne is running the top of line stuff from the zeel with his system. That would be a place I think Jay should go visit. He’s on the shark, Audiogon, what’s best forums etc… reach out. The other guy Henry I believe that built the purpose built listening room with all Gryphon gear (Apex +Commander) Koda speakers, the would also be cool to see Jay in.
Trying to be an audiophile 100% got me burned out on music... Trying to keep up with the Joneses so to speak... I have pulled back & have taken a break from listening to music... Really I just want to switch my brain off when I listen to music & just enjoy it...
PS Audio is another missing manufacturer from the last Axpona 2019 when they had a huge presentation room. No chance to hear their new FR30 loudspeaker and my guess is that PSA is spending all their money and time on Octave Records. Rhapsody Audio in NYC is in a high rent district and needs exclusive selling rights?
PS Audio sells direct to customers now. There's less need for them to be at shows when their business model is now "try it at home in your system, send it back for a full refund if you don't like it."
FYI: Luke Manley was at the show. He appeared on Fremer's Axpona video. As was written below, Pilium demonstrated at the 2022 show. I'm not sure I've seen a Pilium review anywhere, so I'd not be too chafed about them not providing you a sample. As to the importance of reviews to see if the emperor does not have any clothes, my guess is that if Pilium's products did not deliver the goods, consumers who purchased Pilium's components would be pretty vocal about spending a lot of coin on subpar electronics, and the word would have gotten out. That they apparently continue to sell all they can produce probably says more about the quality of the product than any review.
Orrrrr.. they cant produce very much and the buyers are under the ether. Many buyers of the latest "greatest" brands have no idea what they are buying or what great sound TRULY is..
@@OCDHIFiGuy "Truly great sound" in what ultimately is a subjective hobby? Who is the appointed arbiter of what is "truly great sound?" If the purchaser likes the sound of the product they are buying, who are you or I to tell them that they are not getting truly great sound because their benchmark is different than your's or mine? For example, I've heard multiple glowing reports of Spatial Audio speakers. I find them very pleasant to listen to. As someone who attends approximately two live jazz shows a month, locally, as well as in NYC and Chicago, I intimately know where a stand up bass exists on the stage and what it sounds like in relation to the other instruments on the stage, and its volume in relation to the other lead and accompanying instruments. I've listened to the Spatial Audio speakers at the 2019 and 2022 shows, with familiar material, and they push stand up bass to the front of the stage instead of the back of the stage where it belongs, certainly much more so than an acoustic bass does live (though I am seeing Christian McBride in about a month and a half, so I am interested to see where he will position himself on the stage), and more so than on other systems playing the same program material. They are clearly inaccurate. But if someone who likes that presentation declares them to offer "truly great sound," then who am I to tell them they are more inaccurate than most? Likewise, I've heard Magico speakers sound truly really great in my opinion. On the other hand, on familiar program material at the 2022 show, as someone, again, who regularly hears and knows what a piano really sounds like, for some reason both pairs of Magico speakers on familiar program material produced a glare and lack of body on piano which was inaccurate. I've heard other systems reproduce that body and clean tap of the keys on the same material. Yet I've read glowing reviews of the Magico speakers from the 2022 show. If they like it, what business is it of mine to tell them that they really don't know what "truly great sound" is?
@@redrustler1 Sure, if we are getting philosophical, then what sounds disturbing by general consensus can sound great to someone else, and thats why so many brands stay in business. I happen to hit extremely high on the general consensus view of what sounds good. The First room I exhibited my product at was 20 years ago. The first Foil Power cord I made in 2009 won product of the year by Stereo Review for its debut. Reviewers called my amplifier the best solid state amp they had ever heard and mastering studios used them. I have a USA Patent for audio connector design. So Im confident in what I hear and thats what you are feeling ... I honestly dont care either way.. This is a very subjective hobby, but the majority of listeners will agree on what sounds very real and what sounds not very real ... Very real triggers emotional connection that not very real can not.
@@OCDHIFiGuy I've had emotional connections to music played on the car radio. It was not real at all. I don't need "very real" to connect emotionally with music, and, candidly, I feel for anyone who does. Were that the case, every audio system would fail miserably in providing an emotional connection. "A very high number of people agree on what sounds very real and what sounds sort of real?" I know what real sounds like. The Magicos at the 2022 show, which "A lot of people agree sounded very real," did not, in fact, sound very real. "Real" is not a democracy. It does not depend on a certain number of votes. Thousands of people liking the Magico speakers at the 2022 show does not make the speakers "very real" (at least not at the 2022 show.) They weren't "very real" at all. I find fewer and fewer audiophiles attend live music. Case in point were the live performances at Axpona. A shade over five hundred combined of more than 7,500 attendees attended either or both live performances. How the hell does someone who does not bother to attend live music know what "very real" is, and why in the world would I bother to listen to someone who does not know what "very real" is tell me what is "very real?" When you say that people don't know what "truly great" sound is, that statement necessarily implies some objective standard of what "truly great" sound may be. Case in point is McIntosh. You don't like McIntosh. McIntosh has been in business longer than virtually every other audio company. Many, many, many audiophiles have decided, based upon units sold, that McIntosh offers "truly great" sound, and sounds "very real." By your logic, then , McIntosh offers "truly great" sound. Yet you disagree McIntosh offers "truly great" sound. Therefore, it appears your standard of what constitutes "truly great" sound is pliable when it suits your personal tastes. And therein lies the problem - "truly great" sound necessarily includes an objective standard, because someone must make the determination of what "truly great" sound is. If that standard is a "very high number of people," then McIntosh offers "truly great" sound, and by you not agreeing, you are admitting that you yourself don't appreciate "truly great" sound. On the other hand, "truly great" sound can be completely subjective, left to the determination of the purchaser, and is as valid as any other's opinion. Being a manufacturer matters not. Were that the case, then all audio components would sound the same, to wit: "truly great." They don't. Because each manufacturer has it's own vision of what is "truly great." I guess the third option, after a "very high number of people," and after what the audiophile purchaser correctly believes is "truly great" sound, is the OCD standard, which can be a mixture of the two, depending on the circumstances. I'm not sure how to make that standard reproducible for the person happily purchasing Pilium audio components.
Sadly they discuss gear but most of us can't even begin to afford. Anyone else get the impression we're watching Vin Diesel and Vince Neil having a conversation
I’m on a roll tonight so if you can’t distinguish the difference in opinion here between these guys and what they jam too on a rig for their personal taste so go watch someone else. Vin diesel or Vince Neil do not have this level of equipment. Only Henry Rollins!
@@OCDHIFiGuy I understand more about HiFi then you can imagine. I'm just saying it's not realistic to discuss $200,000 amplifiers to normal people and a quarter of a million dollar speakers
I seam's like an awful lot of the HiEnd Manufacturer's are Fluffed Up egotistically and over concerned with appearance over function! It's amazing they seem to Demand and Justify outrageous prices and not achieving Top Tier Sound Quality! Great Discussion Guys!
Jay Alysvox showed at The Show in Anaheim, CA last year and will likely be there this year again. FYI, Bob Visitainer is among the hardest-working men in audio. Rhapsody has established excellent RLR Listening Rooms all over the US accessible to anyone who wants to hear their products under real-world conditions. A better investment than going to shows perhaps? The same goes with Pillium. You provide an important service to your audience but a disservice when you make assumptions and don't get your facts straight. How come you were not in Munich? Pilium was there, and Alysvox and darTZeel were there in a substantial way. Mike is 100% right sows are in decline and at risk of becoming irrelevant.
@@jaysaudiolab for an 80K speaker and a 25K crossover I was shocked how much I didn't like them. I had an audio buddy with me and we both had that same puzzled look on our face. I believe they were playing some big band music. I just reviewed my notes from the show and I commented "There was a bite that I didn't like". I will say that my taste in speakers probably runs more to Mikey's type of sound. As a comparison I thought the Joseph Audio updated pearls sounded wonderful. Just my two cents.
Yet they were voted best of show by many organizations and individual visitors. Note on the first day things weren't QUITE dialed in because it was a ridiculously large room.
So OCD Mikey craps on audio shows (including this AXPONA - see his prior videos), but then wants to condemn others (e.g., the Alsyvox distributor) for deciding to not come to the show? That's some rank hypocrisy. Many of these brands (Alsyvox, darTZeel, and so on) are boutique products intended for the smallest of markets. These products are not for the Mikey's and Jay's subscribers of this world. darTZeel would be better served going to some Paris fashion show than showing up in some hotel room in the middle of no-where USA. BTW, Alsyvox was demoed by the Orange County dealer (Cake Audio) at a California show. So it's not as if the company has not been shown in the US.

(And the Pilium Achilles weighs 260 lbs, so not a piece you want to just ship around for anyone to have a listen to, unless they’re an established customer or reviewer for a major publication.)
Pilium was shown at Axpona in the Bayz Audio room.

What other high end amps have you owned? that statement is more helpful with frame of reference
@@divertiti FM Acoustics 800, Boulder 1060, Nagra Classic amp, Soulution 511, Simaudio moon 860. Not ultra high end but all decent high end amps

What about ASR amplifiers? Have you heard the full battery versions Jay? Seems like they don't promoted in USA either.
Any comments on the new Playback Design Edelweiss MPS-6 in Room 442?
Thank you Jonathan. Why not let me evaluate dartzeel? Any chance you can send me a piece to try ?

Alsyvox was at the 2019 RMAF, Botellicelli speaker with some other Italian amp and DAC ,room was too big but went back 6 or 7 times. How did You like the Burmester? I´m kinda curious, because Burmester is quite known here in Germany.
I thought it wasn't very good
With all due respect , I feel that darTZeel is already selling amps to their high end circle of buyers . From their Business Standpoint , they have their customers buying their amps , and don’t need to do any more showings or advertising .
I agree.
💯
Jay is like the little kid eating ribs trying to get a seat at the adult table and pissed when they tell him to wait his turn or learn a little bit more about the high end first.
Alsyvox just showed at PAF (It was a fun listen.)
I'm trying to understand your vantage point - because you haven't heard them at a show and / or because they haven't agreed to loan you gear is a ding to the company?
To be very fair and with current affairs,
ALL TRADE SHOWS ( of big toys for big boys) have drastically changed, over the years. Too much Politics and Drama and the extremely high costs of booking space, to keep the have nots away. This statement is not only coming from me but from other guys who are after the big toys. Thanks guys for sharing. Peace.

RAW! Love it.
Mickey and Jay in my experience watching them the last year ,
Mikey is more of a listening to music and criticizing other equipment it’s normal,
Jay on the other hand, more of a listening to his gear like most of us.
that’s my impression that’s how I interpret the two of them I could be wrong , but jay looks like really a nice person , just an opinion.

Maybe
Alsyvox was at the last RMAF.
They will also be at Munich.
They're selling all they make before they're made at the moment, so…
Dartzeel displays at Munich every year. That is likely where their customers go. And it is a Pagani. While it has great electrical chops, it is also engineering art, just like a Pagani. You won't see Pagani at the Detroit audio show. Dartzeel is truly a boutique. There are like 8 people in the company if you don't include the guys down the road that do all the CNC work.
maybe they should remove advertising since i dont think pagani does that
Overrated show off gear IMHO with ridiculous pricing because Swiss hands put the parts together…and as Switzerland is a high labor cost country…there you have it.
I think its ugly as piss anyways.... Just my opinion...

The Dude abides...
How the hell does someone who does not bother to attend live music know what "very real" is, and why in the world would I bother to listen to someone who does not know what "very real" is tell me what is "very real?"
When you say that people don't know what "truly great" sound is, that statement necessarily implies some objective standard of what "truly great" sound may be.
Because each manufacturer has it's own vision of what is "truly great."
I guess the third option, after a "very high number of people," and after what the audiophile purchaser correctly believes is "truly great" sound, is the OCD standard, which can be a mixture of the two, depending on the circumstances. I'm not sure how to make that standard reproducible for the person happily purchasing Pilium audio components.
