Thanks for reacting to this legendary song ! This character "Sethumadhavan" played by Mohanlal is considered an epitome of one of the most known "failures in life" ever to have graced malayalam cinema, wherein his life just keeps spiralling down event after event
Describing sethumadhavan as a failure in life would be very wrong i think. He lost his life like all with a slip of moment which he did not act on deliberately. Instead of using the word failure i would describe him as the most “ill-fated persona” in malayalam cinema

The things what happened to Sethumadhavan, in a different way is still happening in my life as well. Firstly the tune for this song is meant to be a romantic track In a fast paced mode. Then writer suggested to slow down the pace and the music director slow down the pace also by altering few notes and this song was born. The same kind of method used in "Rab ne bana di jodi"....the Shahrukh version and Anushka version, but here they haven't done the romantic version.

"Kireedam" is an exceptional two-part movie series, with the second movie named "Chenkol". The first film centers around the life of Sethumadhavan, a young and ambitious man who seems to have it all - a caring family, a father who is his closest confidante, and a charming love interest. Despite his father's fervent wish for him to become a police inspector, Sethumadhan's fate takes a dark turn as he becomes a notorious criminal and a murderer, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
In "Chenkol", the aftermath of Sethumadhavan's actions is explored. He is released from central jail after serving seven years of imprisonment for killing a notorious criminal who once ruled the streets. However, upon his return, he finds that much has changed. The people in his surroundings see him only as a criminal, his family is broken, and his sister has been forced into prostitution by his own father who pimps her out. As the story unfolds, viewers are left to wonder what will happen to this tragic hero.
One of the highlights of this movie series is the breathtaking performance by Mohanlal, who brings depth and nuance to his portrayal of Sethumadhavan. His portrayal of the character's struggles and pain will leave a lasting impression on anyone who watches the films.

And the violin cover of this kanneer poovinte song was one of his masterpieces. On the day of his demise, most channels shared that news with this violin version as background. Since then I gets so emotional whenever I listen to this song. It's heartbreaking..

This song's music composed first and then the lyrics was made. M G Srreekumar preferred a happy song over this sad one. But the happy song sung by another singer got trimmed while editing and Kanneer Poovinte became a timeless classic.
