    I liked the Dave era. Some amazing songs were created and it was also really cool to hear how he approached the existing catalogue. I know it wasn't anyone in the band's favourite time but it is really interesting artistically.

    • @dooddood5828
      @dooddood5828 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@sjer9605I hate when people compare musicians that are that good, Navarro may be more technical in his playing, which is arguable, what is technique? Dave is more precise in his solos, but can’t sing backing vocals (also while playing riffs like Snow!). Dave is not that good with the Hendrixy chords/licks, for example in the Under the Bridge performance from the 1996 Madison Square Garden gig (the most famous live performance from the OHM era available on TH-cam) he plays some chords that don’t really fit and are different (not in a good way tho) from the original Frusciante recorded. Dave is not that good with purely funky guitar parts and his tone is a bit weak, while he’s incredible with the rhythm heavy parts and with leads (solos and also his use of the Wah pedal). Frusciante has a lot of things going on for him too, his iconic style of playing, tone (the super dirty wah+ds2 distortion), ideas and compositions, melodies in his solos and his licks (a lot of natural minor scales but also major scales, phrygian mode and pentatonic scales in some occasions), and the fact that he was very proficient technically during the mother’s milk era and before shows how he chose to play more “dirty” and imprecise, and there absolutely is beauty and difficult things to achieve in that too. To find your tone, style, and using imprecisions in your favor while letting yourself go is something that few have achieved masterfully. And to prove it, there’s a video of Frusciante absolutely shredding at 17 years old, before joining the Peppers, as well as all the Mother’s Milk album and tour performances. Around the age of 20 he found his style and decided to stop caring so much about playing precisely and go with the flow of music. John and Dave are just different guitarists, no one’s better that the other.
      What we can say with certainty is that Frusciante fits way better than Navarro in the Chili Peppers. It’s not just about technique, it’s also about artistry, composition, tone, style of playing and chemistry with the other members. Dave has said himself that he didn’t quite get along musically 100% with Flea, because Dave was not too fond on the funky stuff and was really into goth bands, while the others didn’t listen to that at all. As a composer on the guitar, John fit better. There’s a reason why they got John back at the time and now again, and always thrive (both commercially and not) when John is in the band. He wrote/started 80% of the band biggest hits, and was the one with the strongest concepts and ideas for the sound each album should have had (the more minimalistic approach in Californication, the more melodic songs in by the way which Flea wasn’t a big fan of at first because he felt John’s input was considered more important pr that he was taking over), the rawest stuff and hendrixy influences in BSSM and Stadium Arcadium). Artistically a lot of the times he truly was the leading creative force for the band (people close to them have said it), at a lot of points more than Flea, even if Flea IS the Peppers embodied to me for a lot of reasons, that range from their sound to their music to their aesthetics and whole concept, and Anthony too. Dave was crazy good for a one time album, but that’s all musically that formation could offer. A new album with Dave would have likely been a One Hot Minute pt.2, which hasn’t really been the case with the band’s albums in general. Blood Sugar is really different from Californication, which is really different from By The Way, etc.
      Like, if they wanted to do more melodic songs like Otherside (which came from a John’s idea) with Dave, they would have probably had to ask him, and I’m not sure Dave would have been fond on song ideas like that. Whereas with John, they just came naturally, because they were in the same page with Flea. They listened to music all day together and composed, you have to consider how important friendship and music compatibility is at that level. Flea has stated in multiple occasions that John is the best musician he has ever played with, and John has said that the thing that gets him excited the most while playing guitar is hearing what Flea will come up with on his chord progressions, and that he sees the bass in the Peppers as the lead instrument and that his job is to support Flea with his guitar, like John literally said that he sees Peppers songs as a bass solo and his guitar as the support for it.
      I can tell from my (very limited) experience, I’ve played with an incredible proficient bass player, but he wanted to go the alt-metal route while I’m more of a funk/blues guitar player. I love to try and mix genres but sometimes it’s just not meant to be. I found a bass player which is a bit less “good” (I hate this word really) technique wise, but his taste in music is closer to mine and we are really doing stuff that we both enjoy 100% now.
      I ended up writing an essay instead of a comment but I’m very passionate about it as you can probably tell haha

    a great guitar player does his craft playing something extremely hard making it look easy. The RHCP songs are built in triplets with extreme intriguing fills. On paper it seems so straightforward as it gives so much cadence to the other two musicians. but to replicate it is stuff only professional musicians can accomplish. Keidis to me is not even a singer. He has no range but in this band his style of melody works flawlessly. This band is one of those rare instaces that the musicianship personality coupled with fantastic playing brings out a truly great final product.

    This isn't the best live recording of RHCP but you can still appreciate it. I love that every performance they tweak their songs, there's always moments where they look at eachother like they really enjoy what they're doing and it's not for fame or money. You don't see that in all live bands.

    I know John is the “true” RHCP guitarist but Dave really gave me the hardest rock alt rock version of the band and I was sad when he left. I’ve only liked one album after OHM 😢 Definitely loved the odd track with John since then though.

      @@RHCPsTv Nonsense. Anthony was addicted to drugs even during californication. He was like that during OHM too.
      Their "beef" with Dave was more about Anthony than the rest of the guys.
      (Chad always loved what they did with Dave. Some of his best work drum wise is on OHM).
      Old rumors say that he wanted to be in Dave pants, but Dave didn't want it.(i'm not saying that was the motive. But that narrative of them not clicking, it always sounded false)
      Its like i said 2 years ago, the band (anthony and flea) only started to talk trash about that album and Dave, when John return.
      Because before that they always praised the record and Dave in interviews. I remember it well. (but then again, they did the exactly same thing to Josh..)
      Also, lots of make out between Anthony and Dave during OHM era. Flea also kissed Dave in the mouth during some interview.
      "You" can't act like that and then say the vibe was weird, or that they didn't click, because this shows exactly the opposite.
      Lots of clicking and vibe going on..
