Although this recital took place almost as far from Christmas as it is possible to get, some of the audience obligingly coughed, thereby unwittingly lending the performance an authenticity to which the player himself was not quite able to attain....! So - 17 1/2 years later - thank you all kindly. .And if you, dear 2020 listener, sense a (sub-Covid!) itch in your throat, do feel free to join these intrepid pioneers of 2003! For the purposes of clarification: "rude" is a Scottish variant of "rood", meaning a cross, thus Holy Rude and Holyrood are eponymous. Guilmant's Noël Écossais was, in fact, based on the melody of a Scottish ballad (by Burns) entitled "The Soldier's Return", which probably flowed at a more lively pace than Guilmant's reflective vignette, with its metronome marking of crotchet = 50 (I played it very slightly faster). To access my recital in Moscow - where it was unseasonably cold at the time of my recital in that city - the link is: th-cam.com/video/Lo3gQdJFFKs/w-d-xo.html
