It seems that I have heard this composition in another lifetime..so familiar..so very much like home.

It would seem "Microcosmos" is a new word for home. Or perhaps it is Bela Bartok. Harmony travels through neural synapses and small ballerinas lightly dance on my thoughts.

Hey Luke, let me tell you something, i graduated in classical music and stuff but i don't know a whole lot about Bartok, i can tell you he's important for being part of a movement, together with Schoenberg and Stravinsky that was attempting to break the composers dependancy on tonal scales, so he and the others from this movement made several pieces that could sound particularly "strange" to us because they may completely disregard a tonal scale as we are used to, even avoiding a tonal center to the piece. BUT, this is not the most important thing i have to say to you, actually what you really need to know is that people who study the theory of music are ABSOLUTE DOUCHEBAGS (this is a generalization but a pretty accurate one), they'll always try to step on you to raise themselves up, egocentric and obnoxious. If you want to learn about this stuff, wonderful, it's great, music and music theory is just delicious, but do your research on your own, that way you'll avoid a lot of stupid people trying to prove themselves better than you. And you're probably not a piece of shit, if you think that maybe there's a music theorist to blame. Take care, man.

The pieces in the Mikrokosmos are intended to teach you how to play piano. They are instructional, something like the Inventions of Bach. The early books are easy, simple melodies for children but sophisticated enough for an adult beginner. By the time you get to Book Six, the pieces are fully developed and reach Grade Ten, the most advanced level of pianism. Just for your information.
