- After a long and drawn out motor replacement , Dash8 40-CW "881" is back in service!. After a week of running in and speed matching, the 15 year old GE is back on the rails and earning her keep.
This video was a bit of a rush job, as I had limited time to shoot and edit the footage, so lighting and composition could be better...
If you have been following the story, it was a mission to get a genuine replacement motor, but one was found and installed . The other two Dash8's are getting a heart transplant, with the new motor style, which involves the driveline being changed to a Hex drive. A video of that will be posted as soon as the first loco is done , but in the meantime, enjoy 881 chugging around the lower level of the "Birdwood Sub" .

I miss the old warbonnets, they were the best paint scheme ever. The BNSF paint scheme could use some silver and red. Miss seeing this red and silver warbonnets racing in Arizona. Great video Gregg, can’t believe the layout going to be taken down. Cheers from Terry I would like to see the tunnel portal video. Lol.

Thanks Sparky! There's not much scenery on the layout really, and I'm still learning ! I will reuse as much as I can and definately the tunnels! I'm doing one more section , and making it easy to remove 🙂

That;'s true Bob! I have a four axle version in a box somewhere?? That will have to wait till I move and start the new layout. The scenery will start when the weather cools down a bit??

Good to see the old boy earning it's keep on the Birdwood Sub again. Always a great feeling to bring a favorite engine back into the fold. As model railroaders, we can never have enough motive power! Although I think that goes for just about everything else in model railroading, Including real estate. Still trying to get that one past the Finance director, (AKA) my wife. Ho well, great job Gregg. That's on the RIP track Robin! It had a collision with the floor, along with a few others , after a coupler box broke!

It had a collision with the floor, along with a few others , after a coupler box broke! I've had several of those cars break apart and cause kaos! I plan to do a video on it soon?

Awesome video my friend. I have a GP15 with a tsunami 2 in it with ditch lights in the front and back. The front is on 5 the back 6. How can I control the start up without it coming on when you put in on the track. Can I use function 9 for start up.
Thanks Chris! Go to the Tsunami manual and go to engine interlock, that will tell you how to stop the auto start. You can put any function on any key with Soundtraxx! Print out the user manual and make a binder , and you will use it all the time...like I do!

Does this original gear issue affect the 2018 release/run of the Dash 8's ? I probably need to consider replacing the gear assembly with steel.
I'm not aware of any gear issue? I know the Proto 2000 models had gear issues, as did two of mine , but I've had no problem with the Atlas units.

just got a new GP30 what are your thoughts on running in new locos??
Very nice! I will be looking for some Geep's when I build the new layout! The gears don't need running in these days, but it can't hurt to bed the brushes in and give the motor bearings a spin for a while with no load on them. I run mine in for a few hours , no load, then some small trains for a week or so before loading them up.
