    Yes, I thought the same thing. You can’t do any edit while on play mode. If they only do a small OS update on the play mode, letting you pre choose what control do you want to have on those knobs. Like one knob per fx will be enough. Same way you do when selecting an expression pedal.

    • @AxeMan2781

      Papo Camacho PopTweaker would be great if you could simply touch the relevant pedal (rather than press it) much like the HELIX to put it in a spontaneous edit mode.

    I really really really want a Plethora X10 (or G-System mkII based on Plethora) with 2 rows of 6 switches to have 10 simultaneous effects with 5 external loops for more external effects and/or multiple amps setup such Dry/Wet, or Wet/Dry/Wet setup, 2 expression pedals, CV Outs to control amps, onboard multitrack looper, tuner, drive, filter/eq and wah. I know, it would surely cost the price of two Plethora x5, but it would be perfect since it would replace a switcher (such ES8 or GigRig), a looper, a tuner, and of course all effects I would generally use from HX Effect, H9 Max, Toneprints pedals, Strymon, etc... all in a small format and very easy to use UI. I’ve used and liked the G-System a lot in the past, but I stopped using it because of the new effects from Line 6, Strymon, etc... So yeah, a Plethora x10 or G-System mkII would be perfect!

    I fell off the guitar wagon ca 1978 and have just recently tried to e get into it again (for he purpose of noodling my way through my golden years). A few things have changes, to say the least. Half the time I'm not even sure how these devices are supposed to be be used (beyond the obvious of manipulating sounds). The only pedals I've ever owned were a fuzz box and a wah-wah. I've got a lot to catch up on. Practicing my instrument should probably be first priority rather than looking at fancy gear.

    Very well thought-through. I like the fact that it assumes "FX Loop ON" in all patches, 'cos you can always quickly tap your dirt pedal or whataver. I'd like to see the MIDI functions delved into a little more, to see what it can control, or be controlled by. At this price, it's a bit of a no-brainer, as some delays cost £299. • @swmorgan515
      @swmorgan515 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can see the logic behind this.... drives are so specific to personal taste and the amp you're using them with, it's very likely that most users would be incorporating their own anyway.
      Building a TS and a basic distortion into the pedal would be likely to be insufficient for a large portion of users anyway (like myself). So I'd rather have a device that focuses only on the stuff I'd put in my amp's loop and does it really well.

      Good point...but...you could set up several boards to look identical but have one pedal change to different settings, eg on board 1 have slapback delay and board 2 a longer delay, but all the same pedals. Therefore, kind of like changing on the fly. It's actually a perk over the way it needs done live otherwise.

    The price of this is like buying each pedal for $100. Which is what common pedals go for these days- unless you buy used.
    Also, there won’t be much need or clutter of more patch cables and other things to bring to gigs etc. Of course you’d still have to bring other pedals like ODs, but this really minimizes having to lug around various things. It’s cool that you can also have a ton of presets on which pedals to have so you can toggle between them in between sets. Really cool. Win win.

    waiting to see when someone demo an expression pedal with it. One thing I did like about the Line6 modellers was that you could change all the parameters between the exp down and exp up (rather than just a single one) so with something like the Jet fuzz you could back off the drive, tweak the mids, increase your gain, all while upping both the feedback and phase rate...

    If you were planning to build a pedalboard by buying a Flashback 2, a HOF 2, maybe a compressor and a tuner, you’re not too far away from the price of a Plethora after all. But then, you can have way more flexibilities, change order easily and change toneprints for each song, etc... I definitely love that!

    • @startrekmike
      @startrekmike 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing that would stop me from getting the Plethora right now is that I am the kind of guitarist who likes to have a lot of control over individual pedals at any given time. For example, I know the Plethora has a Flashback II pretty much built in but after using my Flashback X4, I can't imagine not having all the controls that it offers right at my feet. If I want to change something, I need only hit the right switch or quickly lean down and turn a knob somewhere. With the Plethora, a lot of the stuff that would take half a second turning a knob would take a lot longer since you would have to go through some menus.
      This seems like the kind of thing you get to fill the gaps in your existing effects ecosystem. I would get this pedal but I would really only use it for the kinds of effects that I am not so keen to buy individually since I would not use them as much as the effects I have already. For that kind of thing, the slightly less convenient controls would not be a issue.

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Holmes From what I’ve seen, you don’t have to go through any menu, you just touch the switch and adjust the parameters across all knobs (which are more than what you generally have on a single pedal), and you have by default one knob per pedal already accessible with any other action. So it’s not really different from the individual pedals. And if it’s not what you want, I believe you can adjust the layout for the performance. I would need to check the manual to confirm it (when I could download it), but if we can’t it’s just a matter of software update anyway. Other brand such Line6 does it if I recall correctly, so overall, I really don’t see it as an issue. Just check more videos about the Plethora x5, you’ll see, you don’t have to dig into any menu at all once you have set what pedal (toneprints) you want to use for your board. The menu are only to pick the kind of effect (pedal) and algorithms (toneprints) you want to use, but after that, you can have all parameters on knobs across the whole device.

    YO! At 15:50 haha, that octave licks Peter.... loved it. I've got me a BOSS MS-3 and I almost see a competitive unit in Plethora. Mind the differences but similarities are many. The similar thing is the “second press” on a switch, on the MS-3 you can assign almost anything. You guys didn't mention it but one can obviously change what the Mesh effect will do... The price tag is higher for the Plethora though...

      @Robert CowieI do not share that opinion,... TC pedals still sound good, but they are just as unreliable as any other Behringer junk nowadays.
      My experience with Behringer products over the past twenty years or so is that their products have a 50% chance of failing within the first few months, but if they make it past that time-frame they will last a good while.
      I had one of their pedal tuners that lasted forever (a friend still has it) and I have a Bugera 1959 that is INSANE, other than that my experience with them has been nothing but negative, so I try to avoid their products.
      If you enjoy them, great,... but I am not a fan.

    It's been at least two years of me wondering why they didn't make something like the Nova system but with blank memory space for toneprints. I'd add an expression with level markers (like the old visual sound one) and enough relay outs to control non-midi amps in a wet/dry/wet rig. Boom! Perfect. Something you could control your whole rig with, including your favorite drive pedals or amps-in-a-box... good bye MIDI commanders/pedal loop controllers. Anyway, I suppose you can get around the no-preset thing by always setting up certain boards with certain effects on, and switching to that new board (albeit with an external footswitch). Great piece of gear, but still not as practical as a Line6 HX stomp, perhaps? Tone quality would PERHAPS be another story--any comparisons between Toneprint stuff vs Line6 HX Effects? Anyone?

    • @florianju5638
      @florianju5638 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not find my Flashback 2 delays lacking quality against any Line6 delays out of my friends helix, and I am sure it is more versatile with the editor. However, we did not compare them a/b and the Helix was modelling amps and cabs as well, where as I have the TC in the FX Loop of an ENGL Thunder. Not really helpful, sorry

      Before you got that route, it might be a good idea to consider how much control you need over certain effects. For example, since the Plethora only allows one footswitch per effect, certain kinds of pedals might not be as easy/intuitive to use. Using the Ditto as a example, this board can easily model the standard issue Tiny Ditto but having owned one of those myself, you might find that you want a level of control only granted by one of the larger Ditto pedals (like the X2 or X4).
      For me, the plethora is appealing as a sort of "filler" board that lets me select some effects that I may not need to manipulate a lot while playing and may not want to buy individually. I would still keep my Flashback X4 plugged in and wouldn't use the Flashback on the Plethora because I need the level of control the Flashback X4 gives me.

    • @bassnsax
      @bassnsax 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@startrekmike Valid points! For me, sometimes turning the effect on or off in time is hard enough! :p Usually, I'll painstakingly mess about with settings until I find the "right one", and then just keep the pedal at that setting. Although, maybe if there is a parameter that might need some adjusting, maybe that could get assigned to the Mash footswitch?

  • @ransombaggins9301

    Newbie Question: One "thing" Captain pointed out is that you can't just reach down and quickly tweak a setting live. As someone who is relatively new to all (guitar, etc.) this and trying to put together a more minimalist board, I like the idea of the Plethora as it contains so many possibilities in a small package.
    QUESTION: For those of you who play live, would the inability to quickly change a setting be more or less of an issue in your experience? Or do you find that once you nail the settings for a particular song, they pretty much stay that way (so you could make a "board" for any song that needs new effects)?
    Thanks!

To get the settings just right live would be a hassle if settings are greatly different. This pedal gives me nu same sounds and allows for the same settings every gig or reheursal.

      I have the Sub 'n' Up that I use with my bass - the Sub 2 control was just too low for my purposes (but would likely sound great for higher-register guitar!), so using the Tone Print Editor, I assigned the Sub 2 knob to have 2 features. At zero, I had a Leslie-like, chorus-y organ kind of octave effect at Max; then with the Sub 2 at full, I had a distortion effect at Max...then anywhere in between zero and full, the two effects would cross-fade.

    $399 USD would have made this more appealing, but it's probably still a fine deal at $499 USD. I do agree wit Lee that I would have expected those knobs to do something even when not in edit mode. -I guess I'm OK with the little switch to flip through boards, aside from MIDI being capable of doing that as well. Realistically I won't be using more than one or two of preset boards anyhow, but that's just me -> just playing guitar as a hobby in my free time at home.- Commenter @Rasmusraaby mentioned you can triple tap foot switches 1 and 2 to move between boards. I'll admit I was only listening to this in the background while working on something else, so I could have missed this bit, but does this have the ability to run using the 4-cable method -> have certain effects in front of the amp while others are routed through the amps effects loop?
