    We always turned a radio on when it was time for milking…And if the cows were close they would hear the music and gather up in the waiting area…

    need to cut off those stall pads that long is a real pain in the you know what when cleaning was my experience

    • @CalfandCloverCreamery
      @CalfandCloverCreamery  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You know it. Sometimes it’s because they’re long. A lot of times they seem to constantly slid back from the cows stepping on and off regularly until I need to drag it back forward out of the gutter. The absolute worst though is when you go to step on a stall and your foot falls right through to the gutter. Me and the cows have had some back falls from that.

    Cleanest barn I've ever seen!
    Love those Jersey cows!
    I'm curious as to what you have on the floors? 👍 🇺🇸

    • @CalfandCloverCreamery
      @CalfandCloverCreamery  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for your kind words. On the floors we sprinkle down some basic granular ag lime stone. Gives the cows some grit for traction when walking in the barn. We also put pulverized lime on the mats beneath the pine shavings to aid in killing bacteria on the mats, absorbing excess moisture and reducing bad odors in the barn. It all gets scrapped up during barn cleaning and gets composted with the manure and the lime/manure eventually gets spread on pastures or used in vegetable gardens. It all comes from a local quarry. Amazing natural resource we use daily

      Hello, we are a small farm- at our peak times we have had around 20 even up to 25 cows milking. This year we’ve been a smaller currently 12-15 cows milking. Plus a whole bunch of younger non milking heifers, dry cows, etc thanks for your question! Have a great day.

      Do you have any idea what happens to the cow if that calf stays with it's mama when it grows up you better do some actual research

    • @klauskarbaumer6302
      @klauskarbaumer6302 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you ever heard that there are many operations which allow the calves to stay with their mothers? It's the natural way. The milk would help to raise a healthy calf and wouldn't depress the market prices which suffer from a milk glut anyway.@@boogiekang619

    what is it that you put on the concrete?

    • @CalfandCloverCreamery

      We use a typical type of Ag lime. We buy two types of lime for using in the barn. We sprinkle down granular lime in the middle walk isle which serves as a grit so the cows don’t slip while walking, and we use a finer pulverized lime sprinkled on the mats under the pine shavings. Lime does many beneficial things. Kills bacteria on the mats (helps reduce mastitis risk when the cows lay down on the mats) it also absorbs moisture keeps things dry which also reduces mastitis risks- lime also reduces odor inside the barn which serves towards keeping a clean space which makes the milk quality better. When we scrape and clean the barn that lime gets scrapped up along with manure and eventually the manure with lime get composted/ spread back on our pastures. The lime comes from and processed by a local lime quarry. Amazing natural resource I am grateful for. 🙏
