For the boat ride one with the bolt--my mother tells a horror story similar to this. Apparently, when she was a kid, she and her brother were on a very similar ride. They decided, at the last minute, to switch carts. Another child was let on and got in the cart they'd just gotten out of. Something snapped. The other child's vehicle flipped over and crushed his skull, killing him instantly. That was almost my mom and uncle. She said that any time she gets the impulse to change carts at the last second, she does, as long as it won't cause issues... because she knows that saved her life once before.

Ok the story about the parents who almost got their kid steamrolled by a coaster. Im thinking they may have absolutely been terrified but were playing it off to minimize the trauma on the kid. Often times young kids that age arent traumatized by the actual event theyre traumatized by everyone else's reaction to that event.

It DID say they were Russians....perhaps they were used to badly-maintained Soviet-era creaky steam-powered carnival rides with non-existent safety features about which if anyone complained they were dragged away by surly ill-tempered Cossacks and vigorously beaten with rubber truncheons.

If you want to hide a knife near a theme park don't hide it in a bush. Park Services and Security look in there for alcohol and stuff. Also don't hide them in stone rangers (garbage cans) Park services changes them every hour or so. (Sometimes they put the knives back sometime they bin it). I'd say hide them where employees don't go or hide them near the parking lot garbage bins. They only get changed after the park closes.

The Expedition Everest animatronic is pretty interesting. There are virtual rides on TH-cam that you can watch. On the ride, when you get to the broken tracks at the top, there’s a projector that shows a clip of the yeti’s shadow, and then you can see with the strobe lights it as you ride backwards back through Everest. My favorite ride! Wish they’d fix the yeti.

It's the _very_ small majority, but terrible accidents do happen despite rider competence. Even if you do everything to obey rules and listen to operators, accidents can happen anywhere from huge-name theme parks to shotty fairs. If you're a ride operator, and you suspect the slightest issue or fault, speak up! Riders, obey and be cautious. Every time you ride, you're taking a risk, small, but still a risk. It was a widely known case, but for those unaware Marcelo Torres was a very unfortunate case of operator negligence at Disney. It may feel mundane, but lives are in the hands of operators, and if you feel that your operator may not be competent enough, it's not worth the risk.

Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point had to be closed for a few days last year because lightning struck it. A couple of my friends saw it (we worked there). Fortunately it was after hours so no guests saw it and freaked out (not that any park would let people on a ride during a thunderstorm; a lot stop even if it's just raining).

I had the reverse happen to me. I was on a Ferris wheel and the decorative lights kept on flashing erratically, then I noticed that there were substantial sparks coming from what I now know was the "slip rings" used to transfer power (240V in my country at the time) from the upright tower to the lights on the wheel, and the erratic flashing coincided with the sparks. Over the course of two rotations of the wheel, I managed to alert the ride operators as I was going past and soon after, they stopped the ride for a few minutes and turned off the lights so someone could climb the tower and fix the problem (from how quickly it was fixed, I'm guessing it was probably just a matter of tightening some screws to stop the slip rings from wobbling).

One time, I went to a county fair, nothing really special except for a small grass plot with fold out rides, ticket booths, and all of that interesting stuff. There was also the occasional salty people like the ones that forced me out of a ride because I couldn't ride unattended and nobody stepped up to ride in the car with me. Well anyways after that mess, I went to this one ride that was very similar to the zipper, and rode on it about two times. The second time when I was at the very end of the line, one of the cables going from one car to another came right off. The ride operator proceeded to stand on the edge of the car, and re-attach the cable with what I believe was a pair of channellocks and a crescent wrench. Needless to say, probably shouldn't have gotten back on that ride but I did, and who knows maybe that cable wasn't that important. This was in Bremerton Washington if anybody was curious.

I love looking at the nets and tent coverings that are beneath a lot of the wilder rides in Cedar Point to keep lost items from hitting other customers as they walk around the park. The Raptor has a TON of loose change, some sunglasses, hats, and I've seen a wallet and a couple phones all nestled in those nets. Hate to think how much it'd hurt to get smoked in the side of the face with an iPhone flying at 80 mph...

(1 in 14,000 chance of getting struck by lightning, and 1 in 300,000,000 of dying on a rollercoaster) you have nothing to be worried about if you’re following the rules. Rollercoasters are very safe, and malfunctions caused by the ride itself are incredibly rare. Don’t be afraid to enjoy a theme park

Okay so my own experience at that Celebration Station in Tulsa, the go karts were NOT meant for kids. At least not when I was there. Was like nine/ten and I swear if I had been any less cautious I would have flipped the kart. Going at like 40/50mph (at least it felt like it to tiny me) feeling the kart lifting off it’s sides at each turn, and the bridge only had tires to keep you from going over. Mind you, these were not secured down tires to make a nice sturdy safety wall, no these were LOOSE TIRES, some of which you could tell were about to fall over onto the track below. The operators did not give instructions before every new group went racing, so I had to guess which pedal was the gas and which was the break, and even when I did get the break right, it wasn’t working so I ended up in essentially ‘baby’s first cart crash’. Nothing severe, nobody hurt (except my pride and my my mental health lol), a whole big mess came after that with the lady who’s kart I’d hit while her daughter was begging to go do it again so she was obviously fine... ugh I just, the whole thing was awful and if I’d been any older and had any more of a backbone I would have said something but all I could do was cry and spend the next ten plus years trying to get over my horrible fear of driving. Still not quite there yet, but I’m getting better. Sorry for the long rant on an old video, I’m clearly not over it yet haha. Anyone who read all this, I hope you have a lovely day dearies!

Okay... SO we start out knowing that there's TWO (2) laps on the track to "compete" and then we're expected to slow to a stop and pull into the "grid" for the go-karts... ALL this is "Given"...
BUT as I come around for the last half lap, my throttle was stuck! Rather than show off like I'm "stealing" a ride, I flipped my right leg out of the cart, wrapping it over the steering column... Waving my hands I whizzed past the other karts, and the grid, just keeping enough control to avoid crashing the thing... At first the attendants of the go-karts track were in shock, but once they realized my right leg (the one that would operate the throttle) was clearly not operating anything, they went into "fix it NOW" mode...
It ended up with a guy jumping on the back of my kart... The first two ended up falling off and getting injured... TO whit, I assured them I could manage until it ran out of fuel... We'd settle up later... as long as that was okay.
BUT a guy finally managed to hold his place, held on and shut the thing down as we rolled into the "finish" area... AND they were able to get this kart away from public consumption, and in spite of 80+ mph, I was congratulated plenty for avoiding catastrophe...
...It's amazing to be able to just avoid getting killed in a runaway go-kart, and still get congrat's! ;o)

I went on a ride called Fireball at a county fair. It’s that ride that’s a bit like a roller coaster but is just one big loop. I went to buckle in and the seat belt locks but the pull bar won’t. My seat mate and I call to the ride operator for help (they didn’t do seat checks) but he either didn’t hear or ignored us. Going fully upside down with nothing but what is essentially a car seat belt holding you down is terrifying. Hey! That’s not fair! The ride ops are NOT incompetent teenagers! Ride ops are often enthusiasts and they take their jobs very seriously! The chances of dying at an amusement park is one in 750 MILLION. The chance of getting struck by lightning is 1 in 70,000. The difference between dying on a coaster and getting struck by lightning is 749,930,000.

Also, when a ride continues after being stopped, it’s likely that the computer system overreacted or something simple like that. If maintenance thinks that something is truly wrong they’d close the ride.

"Disney fixes their rides quickly" uh-huh tell that to the time I got stuck on Splash Mountain for over an hour. We were in there so long they turned the animatronics off. I still have no idea wtf happened but it sure as fuck did happen. At least it was nice and cool in that ride...
