      The blue handle bars are alumilite brand, bought in the 90's specifically for an alternative to the oem "bend". A 1998 is a good year to have.

    Great collection and great video! Been an XR nut all my life. Strayed away from the hobby when my girls and my business were young, but recently fell on an absolutely gorgeous 2002 650R. I’ve owned the 250 and 350 in the past, and rode a buddy’s 600 quite a bit. Don’t get me wrong, love my 650 but I’m actively looking for a 600! Something about those air cooled tractors!! Ride safe !

      Hi Kevin, thanks for writing! Your looking at a some what out dated collection there. Seems to be a popular video, so I am glad it keeps getting views. the 96 in the video was cannablized to make my plated 95 with a nickle frame. Most of the 96's parts went there. The 1991 in the video got stripped down and all it's great parts went to make "2K" which really looks just like it. The old 91 had seen a lot of desert time. Just look at the boot wear all the way to the top! I found a plated 2000 xr600r that had little use so I put all my good parts on there. The 92 has not changed. I bought it new and it's never been rebuilt.
      My buddy has a plated 600 and a plated 650R. He likes the ergonomics of the 600 better. But the 650... Man! watch out behind him as those things throw chunks. Tremendous power. If he rolls on, I can't match his pull away power.
      I have achieved the "fleet" I wanted for the different kinds of rides with I do with the well sorted 1995 and 2000 xr600's and a nx650 for the street. That leaves me with 4 ohv's. I am thinking that I want to sell the 1999 because in this day and age you need a plate. I don't make many ohv outings anymore.
      This is more like "the latest"... th-cam.com/video/BJM_w0kWFoY/w-d-xo.html ...but even this video is outdated.
      Where you at cause I'm gonna sell this 99 and later the 96
      Look at the 99 here... th-cam.com/video/iAMMlMV3jyE/w-d-xo.html

    That indeed WAS the last time I started the 1996. Cause not long after that, I used many of the 96 parts to make nicky. So you DO get to hear this engine run again. It's currently my best all around running motor. It's sweet! What? You have not seen nicky's playlist?

    It's the 1996 xr reborn again with a terminator skeleton, red skin with a plate! Wont be four months now between rides on that motor!

      Great bikes! Though bullet proof and reliable, there are a few niche type things to watch for and address.
      Like;
      watch for spline wear on countershaft
      getting too hot/low on oil
      Simple bike, great to fix up, easy to work on.
      In the last 5 years I have watched a steady decline in parts available for the 600. Honda has discontinued support. There are some critical parts N/A now.
      In time, I bet the aftermarket will step up. For instance, no more OEM carburetors. There was a void, none on earth! Then, some chinese company stepped up and did some re-pops. Now you can get a perfectly good new carb for as low as $60.
      Best wishes on your 600, thanks for commenting.

    Did Honda ever Release the NX650 Dominator in the U.S.A.?? They are a Neat Machine, with Dakar inspired Fairing & Electric Start!! I'd like to Hunt 1 Down, they'd be an Awesome Long Range Road/Trail Adventurer, the 'Electric Leg' is a Big Selling Feature for me!!

    • @2manyrides
      @2manyrides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, No NX's in the USA. You'd have to import one. Based on the 650L type engine, but with kick start and different 2nd and 5th gear ratios. I don't know everything about them, but the frame looks to be a whole different beast. I tell you, I'm getting to where the electric start sure would be nice at times!
      In general though, I appreciate how simple the 600 is. Even above the 650L
      You have to get a 600 and add stuff to it to be plated or get a 650L and take stuff off to make it better trail worthy. But an NX, that's just geared to a different adventure in the first place.
      Thanks Carlos,

      I have to take it all back! Honda released the dominator in the usa for 2 years. 88 and 89. I now have an 89 which is pretty cherry. I bought it because it was a turnkey bike. Runs and looks like new. In fact, I've yet to even remove a side cover! I have put on 800 miles. It had 8,127 when I bought it.
      Impressions... I did a not too comprehensive 1st impressions video here on my channel, but further down the road now and more knowledgeable I'll say;
      There is less travel than a modern XR something like 10.5 inches. The forks are like late 70's early eighties forks. The 88 and 89 have a rear drum, but it IS a "cush" hub. The rear wheel is 17". There is no kick starter at all.
      I was not overly impressed with power. 600's run stronger. Mine had already been de-smogged and rejetted.
      I paid a pretty penny for it.
      I like it, but I have the advantage of using it for around town and trips to places. I've got the XR's for the other types of riding.

      AND... I want to thank you for your comment on the bikes. As of 6/211/22 the status of these machines is....
      The 1992 is the same and likely will never change. I bought it new in 92 and it holds a bit of nostalgia. I've got no need to modify or change it as I have 2many 600's now.
      The 1991 has been decommissioned. It was well used, but had all good parts on it so I recently took them all off and put together it's replacement which is now called "2K".
      The 1996 got cannablized in order to create a plated dirt bike called "nicky". That because of the nickle plated frame. Nicky is a 95 and the beginnings of it's life were just about to take place when this video 600's getting started was being filmed.
      On my site there are play lists and videos documenting these change overs and these bikes. And I am writing to all fans out there that indeed there is one video that surpasses this 3 bike video in the way that I've gotten redundant with 600's. You could say extra! More 2000's, a 1999 and all the rest are to be seen in a line-up here.
      And again, than you for viewing and sending out a comment!

    Great collection! Great video! Congrats! How tall are you? I gonna buy one of those and I am 5.8 (and a half). Do you think that the seat height will be too much for me?

    • @2manyrides
      @2manyrides  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      5'11" seat height is a problem in various situations like a side hill stall if you can picture that. But then you can have that on a lower bike too. If you're good at shifting off to one side at the spur of the moment you can catch yourself. A street plated version means you'll have to slip off to the right side to get your foot flat to the ground. You know the drill. Some people cut the foam and lower the forks in conjunction with a lowering link. (not me)
      I had one seat with a gutz taller/firmer foam in it from a previous owner (1 1/4" taller) and it caused me trouble a few times! Right now all my seats are stock and that's ok for me. Out dirt riding you're going to run into more instances where it is trouble for you. If you get a 600, let's see your video!

      @@2manyrides Thanks for your reply! I am an experienced rider. I am 56 years old and ride since I was 15. I am planning to buy it and try it standard. If I need, I will redo the seat, lowering it with dual density foam, and maybe get one inch or more lower. I don't like the idea of make changes in the front or rear suspension. I think it can change the geometry. I just sold my Honda CBR1000RR, and I have a project going on. 1982 Yamaha XV920cc that will be a cafe racer. But I love classic off road bikes, and the Honda XR600R, especially from the 80's, are my dream bikes. I remember that when i was a teen I bought an Yamaha DT 180 and install spacers on the suspensions turning it almost 2 inches taller! It was huge! I needed to decide what feet I gonna place on the floor when i have to stop it! So I think I can adapt to the XR with some work and dedication!
