    @Depressed Ginger The lamps on each table were only there in the 1997 James Cameron film 'Titanic'. The purpose being that Mr. Cameron needed some extra lighting for the dinner scene. The real ship did not have lamps at any of the tables as that would have meant running electrical to each and every table and also would have heated the room up way more than it already was (they didn't exactly have air conditioning back then.)

      They did have fans for ventilation.

    The dining room panelling was referred to as Jacobean style. It was stunning.

    Nice video but they actually don’t had lamps on the dining tables James Cameron put them there to have enough light on his actors in the dinner scenes

    • @jsyorks2023
      @jsyorks2023 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah! You’re right, I believe the intention from WSL was to have lamps on the table as an upgrade to the dining room to differ from Olympic but they didn’t get time to install them before the maiden voyage. So in-fact you are correct there was never lamps on the titanic and JC added them for ambient lighting during filming, think they look nice though.

      Actually, they are considering going backand putting lambs on the tables because there are pictures of Olympic with lamps on the tables.

    I disagree, they should have put the deleted scene being back in. It showed a slow amp up of the real danger and added some small ease of tension where it would have really added to the film.

    The last meal was served the night of April 14, 1912 and dinner was nearly finished Titanic hit the iceberg. You can find the menu of the last meal online

    Meals on titanic did not last past midnight. Dinner lasted from 6 to 8 (roughly). During the iceberg collision the only people inside the dinning saloon were saloon stewards cleaning up and preparing for breakfast the next morning.

    Teak is the only wood that survived on the Titanic, it was pretreated unlike the oak and the rest that weren't.

    • @NJPurling
      @NJPurling ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Teak is a naturally oily wood & was preferred to build railway carriage exteriors from. It doesn't take varnish so well due to the oil.

      The grand staircase which was made from oak, was believed to have floated out of the ship after the dome imploded. Big pieces of staircase were seen floating after the complete ship went down.

    Any idea what the heating was like?. It looks a huge area to heat.

    • @JazzJaRa
      @JazzJaRa ปีที่แล้ว

      If i remember correctly these areas were heated by the heat produced by t he boilers and were hidden in the skirting. It was more a problem in cooling these area, since the lamps back then produced a lot of heat.

    • @JamesKing-el3ry
      @JamesKing-el3ry 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They had the opposite problem actually . First class areas were heated by a standard temp of forced air with space heaters dotted around. However it was immediately evident the dining room on Olympic became a very hot and stuffy space at evening meal time. Couple this with the layers of formal wear and electric lights it was known for being uncomfortable. Ocean liner designs channel has a very good video on Titanic's heating and cooling 👍🏻

    • @JamesKing-el3ry
      @JamesKing-el3ry 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Garsons-oq4lh even after the retro fit of extra fans on Olympic people still commented on the dining saloon being stuffy and humid. And remember lusitanina,Mauritania and other liners of the same age had double height dining saloons in the same period, giving a feel of airiness even with the same amount of ventilation, in other vessels the dining spaces were moved higher as the superstructures grew affording for for more portholes/windows, therefore natural ventilation.

    The sad part is people only care about this ship because she sunk and the tragedy behind so many lives. There have been so many boats sunk, but people don't talk about those. Pay no attention. Sadly, we all know this ship would have been broken down for scrap if she was on the sea. Would have been a few decades. Where today, the entitled spoiled nothing but profit companies use these ships for a few years and get rid of them. Talk about wasting resources and the amount of pollution building these.

      I thought it was ridiculous that Rose was American when Kate Winslet wasn’t. No actor can pull off an accent well and it just seemed forced. How hard would it have been for Rose to be the British daughter of a British gentleman and an American woman, like Downton Abbey, forced out of their home like Sense and Sensibility, meeting up with Cal at a ball in London, and going back with him to marry in America? It made no absolutely no sense that they traveled from the US to Europe like honeymooners and back like honeymooners without getting married.
