I’m Ukrainian and a huge fan of the STALKER franchise. But God, I really hate this narrative, often spread by Western media: "Let’s understand the devs; they were working in harsh conditions." As a fan, I want more people to try the game because of its great setting and cool gameplay-not out of pity. If you like it, great. If you don’t or think it’s unplayable, that’s fine too. But please, let’s not create the image of Ukrainian devs as if they’re "begging" for good reviews. UPD: Tried Stalker 2 yesterday. And this was not a perfect experience: I had some trouble launching the game, but the game itself was running smoothly. Which surprised me after tons of various reviews. From my experience, this game, while having critical bugs, is in a better state than a lot of modern releases. And that's the second reason why I dislike this condescending tone from some journalists. It creates the false impression that the game is a "buggy mess" or "unplayable."

No one gets jailed for playing Stalker 2 in Russia. This entire ban story originates from a Russian government worker who is famous for such statements, tho they never go beyond flashy news headlines. The game was available on torrents within hours of release, so everyone who wanted to play it in Russia have already done it lmao. This is how it works here in Russia: first you finish the game, and if you really liked it, you can buy it. Buying games on steam from Russia is possible, but requires a lot of additional steps that nobody wants to take. Much easier to download it for free.
There are several reliable key/gift online stores/marketplaces too and the keys are then directly activated in your steam without any additional steps.
Russian players are also pissed because at the start of the SMO the GSC told them to fuck off no matter what. Mind you that in Russia and former PACT countries, STALKER have a big following.
Russians can't buy it because steam doesn't allow it, GSC doesn't want it to be sold in Russia also, so availability of this game in Russia and jail sentence for playing it are 2 separate things, not related.
There is no jail sentence for playing it. That's nonsensical. It's only illegal to buy it because money from the sales are going to fund Ukrainian army.
@@1stRanger well yeah, I didn't mean for just playing it, for buying it. But my point was that it wasn't Russia to ban this game, it's just noone is selling it to them.
If a company doesn’t want to sell in a specific country what’s wrong with that especially when individuals do that too it’s called boycott. Companies do similar things, sometimes they won’t sell in a certain region. It’s 100% their call
The stalker 2 coverage is completely moronic honestly. 1. The reason for terrorist game comes from the part that GSC has been openly supporting ukrainian army, which is, surprise, considered to be an act of terrorism if you are giving money to entity openly supporting the country you are at war with 2. Stalker 2 can't be bought in russia not because russian government blocked it, but instead because GSC and western companies have been sanctioning lots of software. GSC specifically because since 2022 it has been a standard for ukrainian individuals to boycott or request sanctions against russians online and offline. Another thing which GSC has done is complete replacement of russian language from the game after the war has started. 3. The whole 'russia's government will be labeling you terrorist for playing stalker 2' is pretty much baseless and extremely unlikely statement.
Stalker 2 isn't forbidden in Russia currently. You just can't buy it anywhere officially because the GSC game world stopped all businesses in Russia. Also the game has no russian language (voice) and that's the main reason people don't buy the game.

Stalker 2 situation in RF presented in this video "incorrect" at best. At worst it is a blatant lie and utter nonsense. 1st of all: technicaly, official buying of Stalker 2 place you in violation of "financing terrorist organisation" law. This is a very simple: GSC officialy suppoting Ukrainian Armed Forces, donating money and equipment. So, as a citizen of RF, giving money to GSC will be equal to giving money to UAF. Playing the game dosen't matter at all. Official stance of RCN (Roscomnadzor): game will be banned if there will be some content, wich violates laws of RF. No more, no less. 2nd: there is no need for russians to buy Stalker 2.) This game was released on GOG, so it's was avaliable for anybody, in a very popular "store" "Xatab is alive!".)) No nonsense with VPN and other shenanigans. 3d: Stalker franchise is VERY popular in RF, Ukraine, Belaruss and over ex USSR countries. There is no doubt, that they'll be playing Stalker 2. How much money GSC lost due to their dessions is a hole another story.)
Stalker 2 Devs have been donating to Ukrainian army therefore it's not really surprising why Russia doesn't want russians giving them any money Edit: ironically the vans that Stalker 2 Devs sponsored are now being used by mobilisation units to STALK Ukrainian men in order to force them into the army.
You know, it occurs to me that this is a lot like china's PRC government, except the companies that give money to the Ukranian army are doing it because they want to. That and they can be transparent about it.

Sounds like the same issues with the first game. GSC procrastinated a lot during the development of the first game until THQ intervened. So, this is not surprising and has also nothing to do with current events. It's an issue with the studio itself.
7:36 One reason for the proposed game ban in Russia is due to the developers allegedly collecting donations for Ukrainian Armed Forces through their official website. If a developer in the West collected donations for, Idk, ISIS let’s say, and did this openly, something very similar would occur here as well. Game is much easier and more approachable for modern audiences. This ruined the game for me because it’s essentially a 2007 hitscan shooter with a 2024 open world. That is not why I enjoyed stalker. I enjoy what the community has made with the stalker games as a backdrop, it serves as a great platform for hardcore survival mechanics with mods. Unfortunately the previous games had about 70% Russian dialect (representing how most Ukrainian spoke this as the national language during the Soviet era and the game is based on Soviet fallout). Now all dialects are Ukrainian, so naturally the country at war with them is not gonna tolerate its sale when the Russian part was either reduced or diminished. That’s just how it is, I speak Russian, and I can pick up on about 60% of what is said in the game but I imagine what the game could have been if they kept more of the original style tone and even engine. Stalker anomaly gamma is a more complete experience with much more to offer despite lacking the cinematic. I liken what they did to this series like how they did the triple a ification of the Metro series. Metro had its most successful game in the series but I would say the story was the weakest. Many devs seem to follow this trend, but GSC had 15 years. Too bad their country got overthrown by the cia in 2014 starting us on this timeline
Basically they made metro a lot easier and more predictable in favor of cinematics instead of letting the gameplay do more for the player. This is why I don’t like the triple a mentality of “press a to do animation of the muffin thing” I need a bit more skill and strategy beyond taking a three second stim animation to get back to full health after a mutant pushes me to the floor. This shit is basically a kids game compared to what the old metro/ stalker was like, the game did not show you mercy and kept the adrenaline going whereas now stalker 2 is fallout 4 when shadow of Chernobyl and call of Pripyat are like the new Vegas of the series. It’s buggy and broken but mods can polish the shit out of that turd enough for you to see the ray tracing on that thing. RTX on!
Lmfao I've played the entire metro series on max difficulty and stalker 2 I incredibly harder. The fucking bloodsucker in the tutorial kept one shooting me before I could see it. Maby if you play on tookie it's easy but veteran has been hell feeling super fragile
For real, I am also 10-15 hours in with my brother and I've seen no major bugs. Some funny ones or visual/sound flickers, but nothing gamebreaking. That's being said, my system specs are a little below recommended and a game runs almost twice fps that were promised
What the f you mean it had potential. Shit was doomed from the start. While Stalker 2 is fucking badass and fun as hell. The damn game ain't broken I hate these reviewers and TH-camrs man so full of shit!
seems to me most big companies that get their hands on StarWars fuck it up these days. first EA and battlefront 1 remake that was fucked from the get go so bad they had to make a 2nd one, and now Ubisoft's outlaws. seems like no one can treat the IP with dignity without cramming it with Micro's and FOMO
Stalker 2 is pretty fun for me. Not even having bugs enough that ruin the experience for me. Oh no, you can't carry the world in your backpack and you have to eat, my god what a deal breaker.
I actually prefer having semi realistic inventories. Makes what you pick up matter more and makes you think on value than having your 40th deadric longsword up your ass
There is entire plot where game devs of Stalker 2 cut off voice actors for russian in-game audio. Basically voice actors did most of the localization work, just to be dropped. The game was released with, surprisingly, russian text, but no audio. As for Russia demand not to buy game: ukrainian devs spent funds on buying cars for mobilization patrol in Ukraine, maybe also drones. So technically buying this game also supports Ukraine military in some sense. Game was in development since 2009, war started in 2022. So I would not blame war as main issue why game is a mess, also taking into consideration older Stalker games were never polished upon release, or after.
It's not in "some sense". GSC stated that money coming from Russians would be spent on Ukraine's military. They also kind of wanted to imprison as many Russians as they could with that strategy. Devs said about it in the discord.
Hilarious to me that people want to excuse the bugs when Stalker was the game that popularised the term "slavjank" to refer to eastern-european developed games buggy nature. I've not played it yet. Like with everything... I'll pirate it once it seems stable. Once it's had a few patches.
Technically in STALKER there was the 1986 CNPP disaster but that didn’t create the zone, I’m pretty sure a second disaster happened in game that caused the zone to be created thanks to scientific research going on in the exclusion zone.
You are wrong about the premise of the game. It was not the meldown or the radiation itself that caused the zone with all the mutants and anomalies; it was earth's noonsphere/Schumann resonance experimantation that resulted in all of this.
@@BusesAreFatCars I can't really think of very many that don't have issues on launch, even now. If anything gaming companies have gotten more greedy and lowered the bar for expectations.

They should have stuck with their unique X-ray engine. Unreal just makes the game look bland and melds with every other open world Ubisoft game only it exactly reminds me of Metro exodus. Back in the days, when a game wasn't finished on time, they released a ''demo''. It was free, and it was a very good ad for the future game release. But Ukraine is on the border first. Second its been a historical route of attack into Russia by Germany, Lithuania, Poland, France in napoleon's wars, etc. So culturally its understandable for Russia to want it under their influence rather than the warmonger west. Third prior to 2014 Cia intervention into Ukraine politics the leadership was friendly to Russia. So west instigated political coup in a historically important territory on their border then pretends surprise there is consequences. The Russia ban reminds me of Company of Heroes 2. That game really smashed the USSR for what we know them for and got subsequently banned. Just a damn shame I can't play STALKER 2. It keeps crashing.
In fact, I remember the start of COH2 sales, one TH-camr paid attention to the stereotypical propaganda in the game - and then only advertising of this game and physical copies were banned. Nevertheless, the digital version was sold, and I have it. The plot of the game is really grotesque and false. Did the Russians themselves burn their villages with flamethrowers? Seriously? If the victims of American education believe it, then there are no questions.

The stalker 2 coverage is completely moronic honestly.
1. The reason for terrorist game comes from the part that GSC has been openly supporting ukrainian army, which is, surprise, considered to be an act of terrorism if you are giving money to entity openly supporting the country you are at war with
2. Stalker 2 can't be bought in russia not because russian government blocked it, but instead because GSC and western companies have been sanctioning lots of software. GSC specifically because since 2022 it has been a standard for ukrainian individuals to boycott or request sanctions against russians online and offline.

As for Russia demand not to buy game: ukrainian devs spent funds on buying cars for mobilization patrol in Ukraine, maybe also drones. So technically buying this game also supports Ukraine military in some sense.

They should have stuck with their unique X-ray engine. Unreal just makes the game look bland and melds with every other open world Ubisoft game only it exactly reminds me of Metro exodus. Similarly they prioritize telling the story through BORING cinematics when the old games let you play through and things were actually going on around you. They released the game and it’s more like the fallout 4’d the series when they could have just Stuck with their engine and quit their drinking habits of a year or two and release a stalker game like the community did twice in that time span XD no excuse bro
Back in the days, when a game wasn't finished on time, they released a ''demo''.
It was free, and it was a very good ad for the future game release.
Many games became really well sold because of that.
Also you could quickly know if the game was for you, or not.
I discovered many of those great games with those demos.
Shame that the industry became so predatory.
Kind of funny that you hate censorship in all of its forms yet you're willing to support GSC. Ever heard of Gonzalo Lira? And you know, he was a fellow American?

Nothing new here.
I’ve seen the gameplay for this game and it seems like it’s interesting. I liked the different element anomalies and creatures in the game. Fun so far from what’s seen.
if you want a taste of it, download the totally free anomaly version. It contains all three first stalker games with all areas and maps. It's around an 11 gigabyte download. You can familiarize yourself with the mechanics and lore and see if you like it.
Who win the Worst Game of 2024?
- Concord
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Dustborn
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
- Unknown 9: Awakening
i say concord based on how bad it flopped, crashed and burned to the ground
Honestly Unknown 9 would win simply because I had no Idea It existed In the first place and then I would forget and remember over and over XD
But sadly It would be Kill The justice League simply because it screwed over batman...
They all suck, but Concord was a special kind of suck
I would say concord is the biggest disaster for sure. But Unknown 9 is up there too
All of them.
These cash-hungry companies need to stop pulling the ol' Cyberpunk scenario over and over. Most people would rather wait instead of buying something that's broken.
This isn't a case of greedy assholes rushing unfinished games tho the devs were literally beset by war mid development.
STALKER1 use it scenario before cyberpunk
i played cyberpunk on launch on Xbox with no bugs somehow
Wait? The game was in development for more than 10 years.

Let's add the context to Russia's incarceration part: the Russian MPs started to make a big fuss about the game after the head of GSC Games World, in the interview, confirmed that the revenue obtained from the sale would be donated to Ukrainian Military, which is a criminal offence in Russia given the current situation.
Brother, they fled Ukraine, they made the game in very comfy conditions, chilling unlike their countless countrymen who got drafted by getting beat down on the streets.
But it makes headlines in favor of the studio for marketing purposes.
Relocating during development is not easy and very costly. Also not everyone relocated.

Stalker 2 is fun as hell, even with the glitches and bugs. I've had mine crash a few times, enemy spawning is pretty random and gets me killed sometimes, but I still love it. Lol. The devs have been responsive, and I have high hopes of them making it better as time goes on.
I played Stalker 2 for 7 straight hours and never had any performance issues or seen any serious bugs and I ran it on Epic at 140 FPS

@EndymionTv, you are forgetting govt spending they expect the same thing. Full price + for bugs that need to be fixed.
I came into stalker knowing its just Stalker SoC but with new paint and I'm so glad for that.
I played on the release of stalker clear sky, some players think that this part had the most bugs, but I remember that GSC released quick patches and many problems were fixed. When I pre-ordered stalker 2, I knew that GSC would either way make a good game that I would be playing for the next 10 or 20 years like I did with the OG trilogy. Stalker goty in my opinnion
The purchase of Stalker in Russia is impossible not because of the government, but because of the ban on the sale of the game by the publisher. As for the prison term, this topic was raised by 1 official and 1 lawyer, and not by the Government of the Russian Federation. Please check your sources.
Sorry for the machine translation.
It's funny how everyone ignored the fact that Developers themselves banned the game to be sold in Russia. You literally can't buy the game in Russia because of it.
u can.
you can buy any game that was released on PC and is not published in the Russian Federation, it will just be more expensive
I mean there is economic sanctions on Russia it’s not taking it out on fans it’s the government.
Broken AI and stealth is a pass. Watching the patches for fixes.
Stalker 2, never seen a franchise or game get a pass like they are, the way you put it is perfectly said, at the end of the day, it's a product that they are releasing and it has a price tag attached to it. Not a cheap one either, and the fans are saying well that's the charm of the game Yada Yada

War has nothing to do with the state of the game, the originals are still buggy and broken (even after the re-release) and that's when the original devs were still there, not forming 4A Games and making Metro because the management was hording all the money, buying Ferraris and underpaying but overworking them in deplorable work conditions. ALL STALKER FANS know this. Its not new news, its just history repeating itself. Ukraine is known for half-assing the work and coruption... Why do you think they rushed it out unfinished? They know the have a loyal following and a huge moders comunity that will fix the game for them.
Well Ukraine literally was and still is among the most corrupt countries in the world...

These are the first developers in the world who developed their game during the attack on their country. This is not an excuse, but you need to take off your hat
@yakovlevskiy its probably not. But not impressed they made a buggy crap game. Or that you know nothing about the history of the region & think Russia defending itself from NATO coming right up to its border violating treaties isn't the obv provocation it is. Youre a clapping naive seal.
@@gregg6398 Great game. You will enjoy the plot without exception, even if this is your first game in the series. And as for the region I come from, I am a russian in the past... The threat from NATO. Why is NATO not a threat from the north? There is even less time for hypothetical missiles to fly from the territory of Finland! Ah, probably because Finland has F35 and Russians remember the history))) Well, no, it's just that Finns are not Russian-speaking and they could not be assimilated that easily. And about NATO. It's funny as how the Soviet Union divided Poland with Germany because of "the wise Stalin wanted to protect himself from invasion from the Third Reich" - as they say there, and not because they were allies and divided territories among themselves, of course not! So here in order to protect themselves from the terrible NATO, they was going to seize Ukraine in order to reach these very borders of NATO. Well, geniuses!
@yakovlevskiy what do you mean in the past? How did you stop being Russian?
I don't know much about the game but its possible. But I get put off by most games trying to use modern politics to boost sales. I'll probably just play POE2 in off time.
Sure if you think about ICBM many countries in NATO are a threat.
Fourth, most are aware Ukraine is resource rich nation coveted by many in the region we don't want going to NATO.
Fifth, I believe Ukraine is better in Russian hands than it will be owned by Blackrock due to all these wartime loans. If you like Ukraine having heavy poverty and micromanaged by corrupt foreigners with years of Greece like austerity measures then yes support western war in Ukraine.
Nato winning is bad for Ukraine and Russia to be honest. And im not even bringing up diplomat acknowledged west funded BSL3 labs.

Seriously? If the victims of American education believe it, then there are no questions.

> puting crap on Stalker not experiencing it himself, and just projecting opinion formed by early accessers before heavy patches
So, he's a hypocrite like most other "content creators". What a surprise.
That's why you can't take their words serious.
Media, as always, misinterpreted this stalker premise - it's not so much about the game's content, but largely about devs sponsoring Ukraine military force. In other words - Russian gamers who bought stalker gave their money to government enemy, hence they deemed traitors.

The Russian government is saving its people from the bugs lmao. For real though as someone who enjoyed the original games this is a crazy amount of crashes and bugs still enjoying it when it works though
It's a little jittery for sure. But I haven't had too many problems. Nothing has been "game breaking".
You're one of the lucky few
All the different modes of animation for the ends of chapters were so cool. You can see they actually cared about the story, world, and everything about the game.
The first 2 STALKERs Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky were broken undercooked jank when released the 3rd Call of Pripyat was just about perfect. Eventually the firat 2 were patched and mods took it to the next level. I am a long time fan ofbthe franchise and can say with absolute certainly STALKER 2 will be a great game, eventually. For now save your money buy the original 3 games which are now available on Steam Gog and console and better yet play one of the dozens of beautiful mods like Anomaly, GAMMA, EFP, Radiophobia3, LFO, GUNSLINGER, Call of Chernobyl, or even True STALKER.
This thing was made by Ukrainians? Then American gamers should get the game for free.
