Dude, the posture change, the change in the entire body language, going from the bumbling Clark Kent to Superman. It's insane to me that everyone thinks its just the glasses to this day.
Fun fact: before filming started for the first Superman, the director wanted Reeves to wear a padded suit underneath the costume, but instead he (Reeves) got in shape so they wouldn't need it!
Clark: "Lois, seriously, I'm not Superman!" *gets shot and falls down* Lois: "Nice try, Clark." Clark: *Has red bleeding through his shirt* Lois: "V-Very funny, Clark. I know you're Superman." Superman: "Lois, are you alright? I heard a gunshot. What happened to Clark?!" Lois: 😬
Cut to the next scene and she’s haphazardly digging a grave while she crying and muttering to herself about all the reasons why she was sure it was him.
Everyone in the comments saying how it's just clarks glasses that hide his alterego. When Lois fires the gun his whole body personality changes. He stands up stright, jaw line gets stronger, Voice gets stronger more confident and he pumps his chest out full. What a truly great actor that understood this role.
Reeves was a seasoned theatrical actor before he landed this role. Theater is much more demanding than cinema or tv, no reshoots, no cuts and only improvisation if you gaff it up. A great actor in every regard, too bad he left us so soon.
The *second* the gun goes off, he just reverts instantly from Clark to Superman. Everything about him, his posture, his voice, his expression, it all just solidifies into a completely different person. Christopher Reeve was an absolute gift to these movies, and this scene really showcases the night and day between his performances in a matter of seconds.
Really this is the superpower with women. You could take the exact same guy except him being weak and spineless and not assertive and it's going to turn women off no matter how attractive he is. Don't underestimate it. I work with somebody who wears a uniform. The first time I saw this person in normal clothes, I literally didn't know who he was. He greeted me and once I took a second look, I recognized him. Just saying.
Reeve doesn't get enough credit for his acting. He has serious background, studying in Julliard, later working among others with Patti LuPone, Kevin Kline and his buddy Robin Williams. He was perfect in this double role as Klark / Kal El, but because the movies were never considered high art, it was all sadly overlooked.
@@AleksandarIvanov69 what? Trump will always be my president? I'm going to live at least 40 more years I didn't know you could be a president for that long.
Christopher Reeves played it quite seriously. He even changed his mannerism and voice tone from Clark to Superman, Clark was a tall hunched man with a high pitched fast talking voice, while Superman stand up straight with low articulate way of talking.
This was honestly genius on Lois's part. She decided to test Clark's reaction to being shot at rather than if he was actually bulletproof. That way she wouldn't accidentally kill Clark if she was wrong.
Marvel's tech is much more grounded in reality. Shield knew everyone's secret identity even before the license initiative in civil war. That's why D.C. Makes no sense sometimes. Like how hard is it for them to track a super hero that's not flash or superman (outrun anyone) like batman disappears in this alley here (into bat cave secret entrance) if it were marvel they'd send in their best agent (black widow) to basically just walk into the bat cave but, that's not possible in the world of DC
Thats because no one is actually trying to find their identity that often, besides, not many have satellite level resources in DC except like batman or Lex
Blim The Toolman Right?! I’m not gonna pick a bone with DC since they are everything to me but seriously, how hard is it to identify someone who most likely lives in or near the city that has access to insane amounts of high tech and resources and has been showing up around the city for years? I think it’s a job that even the most amateur of detectives can solve 😂
oontur- mench u have to know that in the comics a lot of people found out who Batman is that way but how the guy said before no normal person tried to find out the secret
Actually he shows different personality as Clark Kent and different personality for superman. And he does not appear in media much, so not much suspicion. So glasses are not only his disguise but his personality.
I love how Reeve played the characters completely separately like two totally separate personalities. Like a split personality. I think it’s what the Cavill movies were missing. It was the personality, the posture and mannerisms that were the disguise, not the glasses.
You cant really expect cavill superman to act like that. When he was not even superman. And his first opponent was literally the most powerful being of his race
Kinda reminds me of Samuel L Jackson, Stephen Character in Django after the white peoples are killed off, and he no longer needs to fake that he’s a cripple anymore.
0:35 this reaction is perfect. She’s not shocked he’s alive because she knew there were blanks. She’s in shock because of the realization that he’s really Superman.
she's doesn't realize yet. Sh'es acting like she does for him to admit he is. Honestly more impressive that she doesn't react after he says the Clark Kent line.
It's funny. Lois plays her bluff so well that Superman forgets to FEEL the bullet he didn't get shot with. It implies he's so strong he never even feels getting shot.
No he feels bullets. Can even see it moving and catch it. It wasn’t that he couldn’t feel it. He literally got tricked into thinking he was exposed and prepared for it. He may be Superman but he got tricked.
This is in an alternate version of the movie. I think the director's cut. In the theatrical release he drops his glasses in a fireplace and gets it and Lois wants to see his hand and sees no damage.
Which is even less believable. Dude's had these powers his whole life, been an active superhero for a hot minute, and he JUST THEN manages to drop his glasses?
@@the_dropbear4392 I'll admit, I don't know a thing about guns.
