The thing the anime struggles the most with 100% is the concept of "weight" and "power" behind the movements, especially when compared to the 3d animations.
That's kind of unfortunately the limitations of the 2d medium. It can be made up with sounds but the motions and impact flow better in computer made models. People in the fandom confuse that a lot with only being a Monty thing, but others had made good fan fights using similar programs he had.
There's a magic that will always be lost, when it comes to Monty's animated movement style. But take that out of the equation, and these videos are soooooooooooooooo good!
No it won't the peeps are already calling it better than the original & calling the original garbage (at least indirectly) which means they never cared for Monty's legacy in the first place these are the same people that Monty told to get lost
@@zaulconz Here are my thought on the new episodes. One of my fears for the rest of the episodes will be that it will only revolve around the fever dream from Weiss. I hope they will not shoot themselves in the foot like that. The first three episodes are rushed, very rushed but the fight scenes and music very quite good
The animation is for sure top notch, but I have to say that there is just something about monty's choreography that really makes the original scene shine despite looking objectively worse in terms of graphics and art. The moves which monty portrayed really conveyed different ideas and shapes which makes it a work of beauty. For example, monty's line work and parallelism makes Ruby's battle moves look like an elegant dance. The hand drawn animation portrays a less dance like portrayal with a more focus on making the battle flashy and epic rather than beautiful and elegant. I think that in terms of ruby's character in this point in the series, the hand drawn anime actually does a better job at portraying ruby's character as being young and less grown, while the original shows ruby as being a more prodigious and grown fighter with her weapon. The hand drawn animated version though, doesn't really make too many references to dig in the fact that Ruby is ahead of everyone and is in essence a prodigy in her sythe craft. So there are different messages and ideas in both versions, so its really up to the viewer to decide which one they think does a better job at delivering a believable message from the character itself. It is with this kind of reasoning that I can say that both are great animations because they both portray what they need to in the mediums and different styles which they originate.
I think when looking at Monty's old works, it's plain to see that his fight choreography had a sense of rhythm to it. Every action flowed into the next, dramatic pauses in time with the music, dynamic poses to exaggerate movement, everything worked together in harmony and its what made the fight scenes in the first 2 seasons so memorable.
I love monty’s fighting style. It’s what roped me into watching all Rwby episodes. On season 4, i love the graphics but the fighting style is kinda ‘slow’ if that makes sens
The sad part is, this is all of the good animation in the first three episodes. Everything else looks static and lifeless. And it's such a shame, cuz when they go hard, they go HARD and the animation is stunning. I just hope that the anime will get better and will avoid the mistakes RT made.
Makes me wonder if they ever got the rights to the original soundtracks... how much more awesome would it be Edit: actually no it would ruin it. Would just be weird having a rwby soundtrack blasting over a full on anime kinda appeal. It would need smth more like a re zero or rising of the shield hero ish soundtrack to complement.
@@ijangumpet It's weird because Monty's animation was created to suit the music, not the other way around. Ice Queendom is like most media, where the music is usually one of the last parts of the process. The difference is pretty obvious.

Yeah, it's almost like season 1 of ruby was made on a shoestring budget or something. It's probably just a coincidence that this show had much more money put into it.
Yea...I feel like all the effort is put into Ruby's and Weiss fighting and they said duck it to the rest...it's not consistent but maybe it will be later I am hoping.
Even across the three episodes we have so far, you can tell that they had less money/time for big scenes in each one. I'm scared the rest of the series is going to be like the Emerald Forest animation with fewer and fewer pretty scenes.
I find the music a little bland, like very calm, it lacks a certain intensity, more shrill notes to put it somehow, I don't know how to describe it properly, I'm not a musician, but the original was more intense
@@索斯 But I like this song. I listen to lots of anime, video game & movie songs/soundtracks and this one from L is definitely top tier. The music is top tier. I like L's voice too.
first look at the remake so far, and I gotta say I'm disappointed it lost the "soul" and "charm" of the original examples that came to mind is when Ruby dashes out of the dust shop suddenly. she spins around her unfolding sniper scythe and slams it into the ground, then takes a hot second to switch off the headset she kept holding onto in her other hand. that little quirky touch to it made the scene extra fun when Weiss fights the possession Grimm stored in the armored knight, the White Trailer went all out. Weiss uses her glyphs to manoeuver across the battlefield as if she were graciously ice skating. her blows are swift and precise. when the knight tries to cleave her with his sword, she has the reflex to jump on top of the sword's end, and slide down it to reach her towering foe for another strike. and ofc the icon moment the knight struck her and she flew back harshly. determined, she stands up, blood flowing from her new facial scar. she's unwavering, the dust compartment of her sword turns as she's already preparing her counterattack can't say I get the same feel off this new series. Monty Oum's animations and personal touches just added an entire extra level
Well montys steal is unique dude you can't expect someone to replicate that and this is 2D they have to hand draw everything so of course it isn't going to feel the same as the original series If you went into this expecting to see the Montys fight scenes replicated then you were just playing with yourself
As someone with no attachment to the original, imo the anime scenes are much better. Watched the OG of that scene and it just looked so... idk how to place it. Well it has the same feeling as those really well done animations that are done with TF2 characters (SFM?)
It's not a remake it's a spinoff...they're taking a different approach than the main series this is seen with the "Nightmare grim". If it was a remake it wouldn't be very good with the amount of missing details. Like the black grav dust circle is missing from Weiss. I will say as a spinoff that's doing a rough recap of the first 2 episodes of Rwby it's ok. I'm holding judgement until I see more episodes.
@@Tymptra well considering the year it was in and the budget the OG was made with, ofcourse the anime is gonna look better, it has a significantly bigger budget to back it up but the action choreo of the OG is just too crisp, the original's fight scenes were creative as fuck. seeing the giant bird and scorpion grimm fight of the anime honestly made me appreciate the OG more.
