Agree 100%. I will make note of this painter. I love the starry night of van gogh. His style and technique brings the picture into som sort of a live image. I feel the same with this one. Obviously an original van gogh are not an option. But this Cortes might be. Just wonderful :)
Yes, i felt a strange feeling while looking at this art piece and im not into paintings. I felt... somewhat of a melancholy with awe, and a touch of homey-ness.
@ekimshield I've studied Kinkade’s work from when he was a teenager. He had the chops. Like him or not (I like him, too), he did what no artist has done since Leonardo. The book, ”Billion Dollar Painter” is remarkable. It's heartbreaking how things turned out, but it doesn't negate what he accomplished.
how is that even possible? obviously her grandparents bought the painting when it was not famous, and it stayed in her family all these years. Unless the artist made a duplicate painting all those years ago.
@@ariochiv There's a decent sized art department at the college in my town and it only seems to produce complete rubbish. I see nothing come out of it that elevates and beautifies the human experience. "Hey, I'll paint these burlap sacks pink, fill them with sand, and tie them together. Art!" "Congratulations, you now have a masters degree." "Great, where do I get my 6 figure job?"
Cortes lived from 1882 to 1969, think about that for a second, he grew up riding horses and carriages all the way thru the invention of the automobile, invention of flying, and landing a man on the moon. Incredible to think about
I’m not into paintings or art like that but This is the greatest painting I’ve ever seen. It’s crazy everyone in the comments is mentioning the same sort of thing too.
In 2000 my wife had a Cortes very much like this that her mom and dad had bought for $500 before they died. She put it up for auction and it sold for $34,000.00. At that time it was a world record for a Cortes.
For whomever information, it is a view of the Theatre du Châtelet seen from Quai de Gestures. Interesting to see a painting of a very familier place ! :-)
I did quick search on Google, and apparently there are tons of painting of Theatre du Châtelet by this artist and others. It was very popular subejct for painting, I guess.
TY for the info...I have a pet hobby of locating painting scenes in modern day Google Street Maps... fotos but need the address or place name. So thank you for the help.
what a beautiful painting it really sets a mood . . . looks like an early spring evening after a cool rain . . . love the effect that the lights produce, then when he revealed the pin hole for authenticity, just neat . . .
@@voltcorp Yes. Bless you for saying this. Especially directed toward those who can't relate to a JMB painting. Just because you can't relate doesn't invalidate.
I think the popular prints you've seen are of another piece on the same subject called 'Théâtre du Châtelet (EC00852). The painting in this clip is listed in the artist's Catalogue Raisonneé as titled 'Place du Châtelet' (EC00465), painted around 3 years later, although obviously from the same source when you compare the two paintings.
Oh. My. Goodness. When I was a kiddo, we had a jigsaw puzzle of either this or a very similar Cortès street scene. Imagine having the original hanging in your lounge!
For me looking at it, it look very much like a Thomas Kinkade. I used to live in a tourist trap town that had a Kinkade gallery. This is very beautiful. Thankfully I've had the opportunity to go to Paris in 1990. Paris is as beautiful as a painting. Thanks.
The reflected lights on the rained soaked on street are for me absolutely magical.
That's a stunning painting
I’d pay 50 thousand for that if I had it.
The thing that really strikes me is the highlights in the windows. So much contrast
@@tbrowniscool what caught my eye was that street light on the left.
@@Briggie I agree its so amazing
I would love even a print of that picture.
The painting is magical, transports us there, and looks like it's moving ❤️

What a gorgeous painting. I can almost feel the rain.
That painting has given me a special feeling, one I've never had before. Wow!

Crazy, me too.
I didn't get cold looking at this, I just got really really wet.
And I'm a guy
What an incredible painting, it looks so alive.
what a beauiiful painting, so luminous, it's so vibrant and alive, even in the rain
Absolutely incredible piece. The use of light and perspective are perfect, and the tones used perfectly captures the feeling on nice but rainy day.
Beautiful painting. I'm a little chilly from the rain just looking at it.
The painting feels like it is alive. Like you could step into it. Amazing.
The painting made me feel alive. Joyful. There is life in it.
What a lovely painting. I could stare at that for hours. You can tell the artist loves Paris and observed Paris at all times of the day and evening.
The reflection of the rainwater on the street is beyond magnificent.
wow eduard did light very well.. it feels alive almost
I was told he was an inspiration for Kinkaide.

The muted colours around the lights and overall mute colours of the piece, makes the lights look so realistic
When you blur your eyes viewing it.
Very special painting. Can't really put it into words. I just love it. It feels like you could magically enter into the scene.
This is just beautiful
It really is a quite lovely painting.
One of my favorite artists of all time. His paintings are extraordinary.
This show changes people’s lives. And it’s amazing to see the joy and excitement on their faces
such a beautiful painting
What a beautiful painting!! I love it❤
The light sources in this painting are absolutely stunning, they really seem like they're real. A beautiful painting
Such a beautiful painting. Paused it during the close up and just stared at for a good 5 minutes haha just wonderful.
I have often seen the replica of this painting on calendars or posters. Beautiful!!
how is that even possible?

love that painting
and I'm not a collector or art lover
Mud Sh-sh-shark agreed, a lovely scene with an engaging style makes for a good painting
It's a rare case where it's valuable but actually a nice painting. :D

As being a painter myself, I can see how he romanticised the colour into beautiful expression of shade and light.
Great atmospheric painting!!
I am a great fan of cortez, how on earth do you make the lights look so real on the paintings
Wow - what a gorgeous painting! So luminous and alive... just stunning!
Thats an amazing painting.
Completely agree. That's a painting I would buy.
I can feel the cold air from this painting. Extremely Beautiful Opus piece.
I love this painting. I love to drink coffee on rainy days and this image really represents it when I'm at a coffee shop.

I rly appreciate Edouard Cortez 's art style and life. He is one of my favorite painters of all time
I love that painting !
Beautiful painting. The vibe and the mood is spot on for a rainy cozy day.
This may be my favorite painting. You can almost smell the season of winter and feel like it’s going to snow in the city.
This is among his best work
you can almost feel the damp air after rain and all the light reflection coming from the wet street and lights, really stunning
Love that style of painting...
Even brought a tear to my eye. Fantastic find.
What lucky people - to live your life in a house with that painting on the wall! Magical.
That skill set to paint something so alive and in the moment is beyond comprehension
Beautiful painting. The wet, the cold, the dark opposite the warm
bright lights.
Great painting. Look at how wet the pavement looks. Look at the reflections in it. Amazing.
That’s a beautiful painting!
The painting is very evocative--and, it's lovely. Nice lady, and this is one of my favorite appraisers, Mr Nichol.
The detail in that painting is amazing. I'd go so far as to say that it's probably the most fascinating and interesting painting I have seen..!!

Lol 2:52, that lady in the background almost dropped her antique vase.
should've gone up to her after she smashes it on the floor and said "that vase was worth 1 million pounds, what a shame you've destroyed it." lol
If you shlepped some vase to this roadshow, you are hoping it is worth a lot, so why take it out of the bag with one hand?
Thank to her titties, all is well.
