NOTE: Subsequent to the release of this video, we had to remove the QuickLock Screen Crossbar from our door because it interfered with our steps when folded in for travel. We have the MORryde Step Above steps that are solid and fold into the doorway. With the steps up, the crossbar hits the steps, preventing the door from closing without force (pushing on the steps).
Chad, .... You missed your "calling.... You have the ability to be an AWESOME professor/instructor/ teacher ...... You speak CLEARLY and are very easily understood, by ANYONE watching/listening !!! We appreciate your helpful videos !!! 👌👍👍👍 (Rick from Massachusetts)
thank you for this video, We purchased one for each door. your discount code was helpful. They were easy to install about 10 minutes. so far, I'm loving the keyless feature and I love that they were keyed the same.
Yea, there was a guy one time that tried to put in all 65,000 combinations. He died before he got half way through. Keep the good stuff coming guys and give Daisy a treat for me.
This was an awesome video Chad. I have to agree with Rick from Massachusetts, you would make an awesome professor/instructor/teacher. Your clear and concise with your words and your explanations. This new door lock is a wonderful breakthrough. Kudos to RV Lock for the time and attention they have obviously put into the design and function of this product; and to back it up with the warranty they are offering with it is stellar. I'm excited to give it a try along with the screen door handle and flag holder. They both sound like great additions as well. Safe travels my friend to you and your lovely wife. Looking forward to your next episode. 🧓
Thanks Chad and Tara! We had a malfunction on our 2021 Prowler in Branson a few weeks ago! I decided we needed a new lock. When I happened to watch your video covering the new lock from RVLock I was convinced by all the reasons you stated. I installed it tonite and we love it! 👍. The code worked fabulously! Thanks again!
One reason to get a code lock: Our 3 yr old locked himself in the camper with the keys. We unscrewed the fire escape window and threw our 6 yr old inside. Great entertainment for all the lawn chair viewers 😂.
Thanks Chad!! We ordered our new trek lock and after watching your video, this was so easy to install!! We even used your discount code which was another plus!!😂
Chad, u explain things so well. We have been watching vids and the one on tire blowout was fab. Glad u stressed attitude (lol) cuz my old marine needed to hear it. We r just starting out on adventures, but will NOT be full time.
I just upgraded the key fobs and was on the list for the release of the updated lock. It looked really good but will wait until the older version dies.
Love my RV Lock. Don’t have to take keys or hide them when you go out on the water or things like that. I wish they did small storage locks would be awesome. ❤
Bad News FIRST : Corey with Finding Our Someday wins for video and is in another league for stills. Not surprising since he was a pro photographer before. His drone work and getting just the right angle of shot and lighting are bar none. But, you and Tara come in second out of all the RV channels, in my opinion !!!!!! GREAT NEWS : There is NOBODY that even comes close to your tech skills and showing how to do it as you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has been a privilege to watch about 98 % of your videos since day one. I do not have an RV, started watching for ideas for our own trips since we are retired. Could not stop watching. They were so fun. Say 98% because I miss so of the tech stuff since I don't have an RV. TARA : You are great at editing and the music is always TOP NOTCH !!!!!!!! WHAT A TEAM !!!!!!!!!!
Great video, Chad. Covered the subject, thorough and complete. ( almost like a paid company spokesperson ). You covered the other doors, but I was wondering about them as you were explaining. It will be nice when they come out, and y'all get them installed. Key fobs are nice, especially if / when you have guests. That flag install is a great idea. That's one of those things that makes you slap your head and wonder, why didn't I think of that ?!!! Be nice to see part 2 of locks. Gid bless y'all and stay safe out there on the highways.
Nice video - this new lock has a lot of nice features compared to my older RVLock Compact which has performed flawlessly in 3-4 years of use and I think it ranks pretty high on the list of best upgrades we have made - right there with Solar, mattress upgrade, shower head upgrade etc. Question: What is the inside pivot handle made of? My old RVLock Compact is some sort of plastic which flexes a bit and feels flimsy and its the only thing I don’t like about it (feels flimsy and cheap) even though we’ve had no issues at all.. The only big negative/weak point that I see on this new lock is the rechargeable battery life of 3-6 months or anything less than a year to me is a show stopper - what a pain.
We have the Lippert LatchXtend factory installed on our 2024 Keystone, and we love it. Our problem is we also loved our RV Lock, and cannot use it, there are a few of the clamp-on style extenders out there but none are as solid and form fitting as the factory lippert unit..... That one is part of the handle and not a clamp, and we have talked with RV Lock about them making a keyless direct replacement for that Lippert unit, but I'm afraid what they said they were working on is that unit you have in your hand instead. Campers are tall, and we are average, so that handle was a lot nicer than we thought, and we would give that up to install a new RV Lock, but we would then be left with a hole for the lower part of the old handle and have to make a blank.
One thing I have never heard you say is Grand Design has a full time/ traveling engineer. Nobody knows as much about what RV's need as a full timer. You should fill that spot and get a pay check to boot. From what I have seen, you know every inch of Grand Design. What they need to do to make their customers happy. Options in lay out, internet, wiring, solar, suspension, water heater options, generators, insulation, undercarriage, basement storage options, etc. They need to hire you !!!!!!!!!! But keep you on the road. Look at it as a test pilot for new jets !!!! Some one has to test the new jets and tell them what is wrong or wright with them before they go into production. You will be their test pilot !!!!! But get paid. WIN / WIN P.S. : The thing that got me thinking about this is when in the video you stated that the new lock you wanted to put on the door did not cover all the paint job from the factory. Because they did not take off the door lock before the custom paint job, hence different shape. You tell Grand Design as a employee to have an option for customers to choose the door locks as an option to what they want. Sure they have a discount price for standard door locks, but give customers an option even if it cost them more. At least the final product will not look like POOO when the client changes the locks out first thing. That is where you come in CHAD. New title. If you do get the title you deserve with Grand Design. Keep it under FBI control. Last thing you and Tara want is every time you pull into a site is, hey Chad. My RV is broke, what do I do? I am talking about pre- design issues before they hit the market.
We've been looking at the RV lock for quite some time now, sure glad we haven't bought one yet. This new one looks GREAT. It's the one we will definitely buy. We just installed a handle on our screen door. The thing I like about ours over the one RV lock has is that it's a full length handle. Thanks for your excellent description on the lock I just checked shipping $83. WOW!! Guess we will have to wait..
Glad to see them updating their lock, however, the physical keyway hasn't been updated, meaning its still very pickable even with very amateur lock pickers. They really need to switch to a tubular lock, still pickable, but it would require an advanced lock picker to do it.
Great video, thanks for sharing. One item you might want to brin to their attention. At 15:15 when you are doing the sun test I can see that when you push the keys it leaves a noticeable mark on the key pad. Someone might notice this also and then you number of combination is reduced as they only have to figure out the order you pressed those buttons.
I had the V4 and I was not very happy with it the first thing that happened was the keypad sticker fell off and when I went to pick up my motorhome from storage I had to fiddle around with it to try and remember how the numbers were on the keypad. the next thing that happened was the key locks jammed and the batteries were dead those things are a bear to try and get into so I ended up drilling the locks out so I could get the stupid thing opened then when I called the customer service rep said they don't make replacement locks and I was on my own. I'm glad you guys are having better luck with them than I did. The new lock does look nice maybe I will give them another try.
Sorry I’m a bit late to the party. I was wondering if you knew whether the folding railing will still work with the latch extender you showed, or if I’d have to replace it with something like the MORyde Safe-T-Rail?
I recently got a rvlock (using your old discount code) for our Alliance Valor 44v14. It has a glass door and the lock didn't fit initially. I filed the screw boss a little bit to get it to fit. Didn't want to force it and crack the glass!
Thanks for letting us know. We've confirmed this and have notified RVLock. We should be able to get this resolved shortly. Please try again later today.
The 10 digit keypad may provide a lot of combination, but how lock pick proof is it? I purchased a Carmtek as well and I picked it with a rake in less then 5 seconds and Im not experienced in lock picking! So I returned it because there is no point on having a 10 digit keypad with a 5 second rake lock!!
Hi Chad, After watching you video on the Trek, I purchased it, but I'm having a problem getting the latch to keep the door closed. Tried several different adjustments with no success. Any suggestions? I'm putting it on a 2019 Reflection 5th wheel.
Thanks for the video. Been wanting a lock like that for some time. Unfortunately in Canada the price is way too high. $83 just to ship it to Alberta from Utah.
Chad, there is no "like" button on this video. There is no "thumbs up" tab, just a "thumbs down" tab. This is the second RV video TODAY that had no way to "like" it. I don't know if this is significant for those of you who rely on "likes" for compensation. Just thought you may want to know. Chief.

Bauer NE Bluetooth locks are far superior in quality to the original RV Locks and can be ordered to match the Bauer one-key code included on Grand Design RVs. They also cover the original unpainted area without stickers and you can use your phone for lock/unlock and auto-unlock as you approach the door. Been using the Bauer for over three years after having to replace the RV locks twice. No FOBs needed.

Yes it works great. We have it on our Riverstone. When we were at the FROG rally in 2022 when it first came out that was the first thing my wife insisted be installed.
Fantastic video as always, and the flag mount looks great! Unfortunately, the RV lock is out of stock for the flag mount 😞Chad, I have a question about your Ring Camera: we have ours mounted similarly to yours. Do you travel with it installed, or do you remove it each time you hit the road? We've been taking ours down every time we travel, but I'm curious about your approach. Thanks!
It's screwed to the door, and we leave it there when traveling. On our 397, we used command strips and removed it when traveling. So, either method works. 👍🏼
Chad be mindful with the natural oil on our hands, people may be able to see the key pad and notice which numbers have been pressed. Thinking outside the box here.
My RV Lock was a POS. One winter and the keypad was all cracked and letting water into the lock. I called then and they offered to sell me an upgraded lock.
I have the original RVlock brand and I hate them. They have been a complete bomb for us. The batteries died insanely fast. We aren’t full timers and I was even turning it off when we stored the camper, but it didn’t make any difference. With the batteries always dying the key fobs would no longer be synced either. We looked at other brands also and I was less than impressed with those. I might give these new version a try. I do like the upgrades that were pointed out.
Sorry that was your experience with the older model. We had two of the original V4 locks and they were flawless. Batteries lasted about 4-6 months on each.
Thanks for letting us know. We've confirmed this and have notified RVLock. We should be able to get this resolved shortly. Please try again later today.
These doors are so flexible that anyone can enter with a screwdriver. None of this is anything more than a mild deterrent. Peace of mind but not really serious security. If they want in it is very easy to get into the rv. 😢
Not satified with RVLock. Customer service is very slow and hard to reach. They sent me the wrong lock(the cheaper model) after I ordered from your website and was still charged the higher amount. I returned the lock to them with the shipping label they supplied to me. That was over a week ago, and I still haven't received a refund for my order.

These doors are so flexible that anyone can enter with a screwdriver. None of this is anything more than a mild deterrent. Peace of mind but not really serious security. If they want in it is very easy to get into the rv. 😢
Pretty much all locks are there to keep honest people honest. Any RV can be broken into with a hammer.
They did think of a lot of things…but it’s not left-handed friendly! My fellow south paws know what I mean 😂
😊
👍
Not satified with RVLock. Customer service is very slow and hard to reach. They sent me the wrong lock(the cheaper model) after I ordered from your website and was still charged the higher amount. I returned the lock to them with the shipping label they supplied to me. That was over a week ago, and I still haven't received a refund for my order.
We're still debating on getting those kind of locks. We have ordered a pet monitor system for the camper, thanks to you guys. Oh and the Earth is FLAT
Pet monitoring definitely takes priority. 👍🏼 😊
