I'm pretty sure cassette recordings were popular with everyone in the 80s, not just folks who couldn't see. I was alive (though rather young) at the time. The audio quality on magnetic (cassette) tape degrades over time, which is what this was almost certainly recorded on. I used to get cassette tapes out from my library that were in worse condition, but the sound fidelity on cassette tapes is rarely 'audiophile' quality.
I am truly grateful to have found this golden age science fiction series in such a Very well-read audiobook. Pam Ward is a gem.
I believe this audiobook was recorded for the visually impaired in the 80s, so the quality shouldn't be surprising. Thank you for uploading it
