I just thought of something that an NPC would say about Karina's gym leader: "I heard she first wore the mask because she had a cold and didn't want to get the trainers sick, but she realized it made her look more like a dragon so she just kept wearing it"

I imagine that the very first interaction you have with her is she asking you to buy some medicine for her because she was too sick, and after that shes like the trainer that is always around when something happens but she's always late.

Also later they're arguing and Karina breaks it up (I picture her being the champion) and makes them be friends. the end.

Zen Headbutt, Psycho Cut, Heart Stamp + any other super effective STAB moves from dual Psychic mons like Play Rough or Brave Bird. Plus there isnt that many popular single Fighting mons, thus other moves like EQ for Lucarios etc.
@@mjm3091 Yeah, play rough seems to be the way to go. There are 4 non legendary psychic lines that can learn it (though only trough TM), so it isn't uncommon, it is 4 times effective against the gym leader's Pokemon, and it is just a good move. Brave bird isn't actually possible to learn for any psychic type except for mew.
I would probably go with Swoobat with acrobatics for flying type coverage and Hatterene with play rough for fairy type. That's not a great set up speed wise, since Hatterene is very much a trick room pokemon, and Swoobat is rather the opposite of that, but both have good enough physical attack to be functional, and with this rule set that's what matters most.
Katrina's gym leader would actually be really cool. The idea that she's a very unassuming and upbeat for being a dragon gym leader, showing that anyone can like anything they want. And the way she fights is more passive, letting the pokemon act kind of their own while she would be more of a cheerleader that occasionally throws in a suggestion for what they should do next. Even though the pokemon act mostly on their own, with a little direction it's what makes her a powerful gym leader.This would show trainers that sometimes trusting in your pokemon and allowing them to act on their instincts & working together with your pokemon can make your bond stronger and your fighting skills greater. I like the idea that each gym leader teaches you an aspect of what makes a great trainer by having a certain exaggerated trait to how they fight. So honestly a really cool gym leader concept. 😁
It's also great contrast. Because when you look at Lance, Clair, Drake, Drayden and Raihan- they all have the general theme of 'My dragons are big and strong and majestic and so am I'. She joins in neatly with Iris and Drasna. Iris is more of the childish nature of imagination and youth, while Drasna is more matronly and about history. Karina slots in between them, showing a calmness like Drasna but with the passion of Iris.
In conclusion it's great all around.
She could give you a item that your pokemon can hold to act on its own to try and replicate what she has built naturally for trainers who aren't there yet
(Could be a random selection and every other turn you can increase the chances of a move by selecting it)

now with Nathan's interpretation of sewer trainer Julia (in the fan art for each other episode), I like to imagine that if you beat Jacob in the alley you now gain access to an open manhole with 'gym' and a down arrow spray painted on it
Julia and her pokemon are unbeatable and you will lose your entire team but if you get any of her 'mons to half health she lets you hang out in her room full of -vampires- dark type pokemon and take as many supplies as you can before leading you to the surface.

If I were a Gym Leader, I'd definitely be Poison type. It's my favorite type and I totally vibe with the whole "gross/unappealing creature that's just trying to live its best life" aesthetic that Pokemon like Garbodor and Skuntank have.
Since the two Poison gyms, Fuchsia and Virbank, have such wildly different aesthetics (ninjas and punk respectively), I don't feel obligated to make my Gym fit any kind of design theme like how all the Rock gyms are themed around rock-adjacent activities like archeology, mining, or rock-climbing.
Therefore, my Gym would be mostly just a massive recycling plant that also has an area for fighting.
The Gym challenge would just be an educational tour through the Gym. The challenge is that it's really stinky because I have a bunch of Pokemon that like to eat garbage, like Trubbish and Muk, living there so that I can do something with the garbage that can't be recycled. There would be a lot of them and they just kinda hang out and go to the garbage room when they're hungry.
The educational tour would mostly focus on pollution and recycling, but the last leg of it would switch to explaining the difference between poisonous and venomous. I would conclude the tour by saying "I would be glad to show you the difference... in battle!"
My team would include Pokemon who use toxins defensively (poisonous) and offensively (venomous). My Gym would focus on Double Battles, so challengers would have to deal with big defensive Pokemon backing up their more fragile, offensive friends.
I like that Jacob openly admitted to vampirism of his friends and or co-workers, at the very top of the episode. This is why we’d all be killed as witches and monsters because we can’t keep our smartass mouths shut! lmao

Jacob's gymsona is just a weird guy that lives in an Alley who wants to fight literally everyone.
After a while of sending requests to the authorities and vandalizing the buildings belonging to said authorities, they just let him have this one thing.
I've never played DND but I would love a DND Gym. I imagine it's layout like the Normal Gym from gen 3 but the rooms are all different areas like a creepy Forrest and it would work like the Gym leader is the Dungeon master and rolls your difficulty of the next Trainer as you would go through the different rooms and you would hear them narrate a little story based on your rolls and your Actions, like "and the Combatetor decides to go into the swamp, but what is lurking in the Shadows? It's a Troll!" And the Trainer in the Gym are all in costume and have fitting Pokemon. The last room would be the Treasurechamber and they are the Dragon or something and if you defeat them you wouldn't get anything from them no money no items no badge it'll all be in the big chest behind them.
That would be so awesome, maybe I try doing that in a rpg maker...
karina's whole process is just how i do everything, including the doodles and commentary notes such as "IM STRUGGLIN"

I love how Nathan's design incorporates aspects of different Pokémon into his appearance. I'd love to see them do that more often.

I love the idea of being a themed gym rather than a type gym, kinda like one of those Bonus gym badges that exist in the show that aren't directly needed for the Elite Four. I'd be a themed type leader (or ghost type) that ties in with the Dark Brotherhood. When someone fulfills the requirement to challenge my gym, they'll fall asleep one day and wake up in my gym.

I- didn’t know that I learned the anime glowy thing from Jacob. I remember watching this a while ago and I tried that for all my drawings _until someone critiqued me in art class and said it looked blurry, I liked it and went out of my way to make it look like that but I haven’t tried it since, so it’s been about a month_
