A fantastic album!! His albums tells a story from the first song to the last each song a continuation of the previous song. They take you on journey that you want to experience time and time again!!!!
Hands down my favorite song by Neal Morse! Continues to blow me away EVERY time I listen to it. The transitions, composition, musicianship, lyrics, atmosphere & message. An absolute masterpiece!
I first heard Neal in '96, when I picked up both THE LIGHT & BEWARE OF DARKNESS on a hunch, and even then, you could tell this was a fellow with strong religious beliefs. It wasn't explicit in the work per se, but neither was it cleverly-hidden....the uplifting positivity and spirituality was threaded right into the melodies and lyrics. Haven't been as big a fan of his solo stuff as the Spock's canon, but that has more to do with a growing sense of repetition in his later work.....there's a deja vu going on these days that's probably unavoidable with a talent as prolific as Neal, who never stops writing/recording. But this? THIS is as good as anything he's ever done. The acoustic section with Keaggy is absolutely breathtaking. Hands down the highlight of "One".
Neal was pre-Christian era for those albums which is very hard to tell from the lyrics (well except for the expletive verse in The Light expressing the angst and anger). It's a bit like Kerry Livgren of Kansas fame who was also very interested in spiritual themes and both wrote much of their spiritual journeys and searching into their lyrics and progressive rock often has these bigger themes over the relationship ideas in mainstream music. Wiki says he became a Christian in 2002. Light was '95, Darkness was '96. So it would appear that Neal was just being Neal, just expressing his thoughts.
Nice to hear the musical inspiration started through Yes, Genesis, etc. took root where it'd be appreciated! Just got acquainted with Neil's music 4 or so years back, and appreciate it much. Nice to hear Phil K here too, another I've listened to for many years... Thanks!
4:00 there was once an old video (2010's ish), long since deleted talking about the tower of babel, that used this segment as the intro, the video was titled "riddle of 2 eagles". the video was deleted before i could get the name of the song, and i have been searching for it for years, and by random chance, i just found it.
I had a hard time finding it on TH-cam because it isnt called I'm In a Cage. Finally found out it was called The Separated Man. I like both versions, although Theocracy is more my kind of music.
I'm confused, which apparently comes to those of us who believe in imaginary things. You know better than many of us who believe that there is no afterlife? And the afterlife is what Christianity is based on? There is more evidence for Jesus dying for our sins than that cats, dogs, apes and mudskippers had a common ancestor in a protein. There is more evidence that Christ walked the earth than that 85% of the matter in the universe is invisible. Jesus changed us and we see evidence every day.
As an agnostic, I will tell you one thing. You assume you know the answer. You do not. There is no way of ever knowing if there is a god. I can't say I believe there is one, but I do not. When you talk about being rude towards people, you are just that when telling others that their faith is based on something imaginary ! You don't know any better than those who believe. You want people to live like you just stated? Then best start with yourself before you expect it from someone else.
There are happy people who know Jesus and they know who is The God.
I bless you Neal
god has no religion
@@e-ternell Yes, True Christianity is not a religion, it is a personal relationship with the true God, best regards
Amen
