hey Al im coming down to nc to do some rockhounding... just hoping to get one pretty stone to have faceted.. would love an emerald but whatever would do.. any recommendations on where i should go... thinking here
Steve Crawford Crabtree is a good place to go, but it can be slow if you don't know how and where to look. I am a big fan of Buck Creek (and it's free). Surface collecting only but the corundum is not hard to find, but not usually gem quality. Thanks for tuning in!, Al
The mine is managed private property. You can book a visit through rick@wncrocks.com. It is not a tourist trap, just pay to access. Thanks for watching!
+Bill Lai Worthless is a relative term. What may be monetarily worthless I see as a specimen. So in that regards I found many decent specimens. Thanks for watching.
Right. Who needs emeralds right? How do you think wealthy people end up wearing jewels? We (miners/collectors) find them and sell them (or just keep the really exotic stuff for ourselves) for a pretty decent profit or a better trade happens more than you would think. Most of us do it because we enjoy it and for those of us who have kids we can teach them what we know about geology and mining. That's pretty short-sighted of you to say that man. Maybe if you spent a day at this mine (and actually do some mining) you might actually enjoy it.
Thanks, Miss the Tennessee and southern area footage.
Doublenotminer Me too. If only the weather would cooperate. Gotta get out and get some minerals occasionally to add to the fun.

Agree. This place looks like a complete waste of time.
