The labels made me CRY. Considering I literally dream about volunteering at The Convent, both labels made this old lady's heart happy. ❤❤❤❤ The Pethericks & blessings to all of us fans.
Mick must enjoy that wonderful feeling of still being an amazing resource to both an incredible project and his family as a whole. At 72 I still work albeit 2 days a week but it gives me a sense of purpose . The older generation still has so much to give. Mick is fortunate to be able to physically work still. The secret to staying forever young! 😊
My dad passed away 6-25-24 at almost 94. Your dad reminds me so much of mine in that he is still sharp, active and motivated while showing great love and dedication to his family. Aren’t we so lucky to have (and in my case had) men like them in our lives!?! ❤️
Your dad is a trooper. "They won't let me retire." Best line in the whole video. Seriously though is so nice to see that he gets in there up to his elbows in your projects. On another note Gwen blew me away with her observation of the library. You kiddo have married a very wonderfully supportive woman, even though at times it may be hard to see. Just loved her answer about both of your projects in the Convent. Don't you ever take it for granted. Your dad's got 20 yrs on me, but we work the same. Glad you have such a supportive family.
My dad helped me rebuild my house after gutting it. He drve 65 miles every morning to come. Its been 18 years since then, he passed 3 yrs ago. To this day my mind vividly remembers the conversations, the quality times with him. Mick , my dad always said, when you stop you get old r 6 feet under 😅. Wow those doors are beautiful! Enjoy your well deserved vacation Yennis.
Your father reminds me of my father, who pretty much worked until he was 84 years old when he died. He raised 10 children was a loving father and husband, and instilled in his children the same value of hard work. Your father was incredible enough of a man to teach you those same principles, and I am sure that you are as proud of him as he is of you. Well done to both you and your father.
Same here, my dad passed away at 82, after retiring at 65, he almost went straight back to work... after a rival company came calling, unable to find someone with his specialised knowledge of their equipment, he went from 2 days to full time in the blink of an eye. And he loved it, it was a family owned company that treated him as a member, it made him feel useful and needed, he was almost indispensable to them really, downside for my mum.. there was not much time for work around the house... without tobacco, he would have had another 20 years. Yes, Mick P is strong of character and a worker, it's fantastic to have all these memories recorded for the generation of Pethericks! 🦘
What an incredibly vital father you have Billy. I bow deeply to him! I'm honnored to follow your project. Great camera work Alex! Have a great weekend and see you next time. Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱👋🏽
Gosh your Father is amazing, 80 years old. I’m nearly 71, & I still use scaffolding to paint the outside of my old NZ villa, I use chainsaws & I love doing it. Great job you are all doing.
Dear Mick, in essence you should be retired but I have a feeling you are loving every second of working with your son and everyone back at the chateau. You are strong and wise with so much experience to offer to your kids. I feel so happy for you to have your family/grandchildren with you. It is the best life. Keep safe and well. Paddy does very fine, quality work, the doors are beautiful. I’m happy Yanis is taking a well deserved vacation. Billy, your tool belt dilemmas were quite funny, but once you learn where everything goes, as you said they are quite handy. Alex, you are amazing.
I hope Yanis is having a great weekend off. Mick, you are such an inspiration to us. To be working at 80, with your sons, must be so satisfying and meaningful. I am sure many of us will learn from your example and keep going as long as possible. The convent is clearly going to love this library. Everything is fitting so well. Paddy's doors look wonderful, even before they are fitted. The fact that the wood has come from an old oak tree in Mayenne makes them even more special. I just hope we get some interesting glass panels to finish them off. Thanks Billy, Mick, Alex and Layla, another superb video. 😀
Has anyone else here noticed this - since watching your channel and absorbing your impeccable work ethic, I’m “cracking on”. I cleared out a huge cupboard today I’d wanted to do for ages, and I know it’s your energy that’s rubbed off on me.
If Mick turned up at the convent in civvies instead of his boiler suit there would be a lot of long faces, including his own. Like my dad he loves to work and be useful and we love watching him guide everyone. Well done Mick keep safe and well.❤❤❤
Great seeing Mick and Billy working together on the Library project. Mick has been doing this kind of work for decades, but now he also graciously dealing with being filmed while at it. An admirable and able gentleman in so many ways.
Did anyone else catch that tiny rock at 28:22 that Mick used to level the stones in the wall. Just incedible! Also you'd think that Billy is playing with toy building blocks rather than huge pieces of lumber based on the smile on all his smiles while installing the floor. He us truly in his happy place😊
Billy, you are just so blessed to have your dad working by your side. Cherish this time! The doors are a work of art. Always great video, Alex. Nice Yanis gets a weekend off, he deserve it!
Mick is an absolute treasure. I think working on the convent is perfect for him. I can't see him retiring completely, so it gives him a project. And his expertise has been priceless. I had a unit rather like the Crafuel. It would be a frig or a warmer. It was priceless when we moved to a different town and the mover couldn't get to the house because a tropical storm had made a mess of the road. We plugged in the cooler and it was our frig for almost a week.
My dad worked at Bethlehem Steel for forty years before retiring and going into consulting work for another thirty years. He finally retired at age 85 and lived to be 90. I’ll be 70 in September and am still working. I have no plans to retire. Crack on, mates!
Provided you have reasonable health we must remain active and have a purpose in this life. Forever onwards and upwards. He is a fine example to us all.
Love seeing the Mick cam today. Thank you, Alex! Yanis definitely deserves to take a nice weekend holiday with friends. He has certainly earned it! Mick, I agree with everyone about how wonderful it is to see you still working along side the "boys." My own father attempted retirement 3 times before it stuck. He just couldn't stand being idle. He had worked hard his entire life and after a few months of sitting around the house watching tv and doing nothing, he would get bored and head out to the workshop to "tinker around" with something or other and the next thing we knew, he was back to running his own business again lol.
I grew up doing electrical work with my old man, and because of this have done a lot of demolition, one of the tricks I picked up along the way is that when you have to cut pipes close to a wall like that you can take a grinder with a wafer disc and cut down the length of your sawsall blades to be just long enough that you can get the guard against the pipe and not be ramming the blade into the wall, this makes for a more precise cut. As well splitting a piece of PVC pipe to go over the water pipe to protect from knicking it as you come through and securing it with a couple of zip ties can save you a lot of headaches and worry. On that note the doors look absolutely beautiful.
Things you wrap up and stick in concrete, you should stick things like a time capsule. Like a business card, photo of you guys, a note, etc. Just one thing that’s flat and light. Just a little treasure for future renovators.
Yannis, enjoy your time in Paris with your mates. Billy and Mick, you still crack on Paddy is a fabulous carpenter! Those doors are beautiful. Enjoy your weekend all.❤
I’m glad that Papa Petherick isn’t “retired” I think he would be so bored and be out finding new projects to start and be involved in.. don’t want to get “rusty”❤
I say chapeau to Mick with what he is doing in his age. He could retire but he gives his wisdom still to the project. And all the work in the library is so amazing it will be a beauty in its self. Thumbs up and crack on
The doors are so elegant! Perfect! As far as a spiral staircase is concerned, although very pretty they are pure torture for older people. Would an elegant birdcage type elevator be possible? You are so fortunate to have the company of your Dad as well as his wisdom and abilities. Treasure the moments!
Thanks for another awesome video! So nice to watch you and your dad working together, Billy! Looking forward to seeing the new doors installed. Thanks for sharing the details of how the doors were constructed from the lumber of a local tree.
It’s lovely to see Mick still working with you all, I’m sure his work ethic is what introduced you all hard work👍🏼. Did you ever get to finish your house Mick, I’d love to see how it turned out. Also nice that Yanis gets to have a vacation away with his friends, he’s been working hard and 🎉he’s learned so much. Have a drink for me Yanis👍🏼. Have a relaxing weekend all 🥰🙋🏼♀️
A tip from a carpenter if i may. I carry a disk of beeswax to lube the threads of those long lag screws. Night and day difference in ease of driving them in. It’ll also help your drivers not work so hard and in turn last longer, plus save your wrists.
Really enjoyed this video. I prefer no music. I like to hear all the noises of rocks falling and equipment drilling, hammering and whatever you or others want to say.
I thought i was the only one that enjoyed the ASMR of small rocks and dirt falling, hitting metal and wood as it does. Idk why I like that sound so much. 😂
Mick is a marvel.. he is so fit for his age and a great team player on Billy's fantastic project. I find this a great blog to follow it's so interesting and entertaining.. thanks everyone you are all great examples and wish you well working in the heat. 🤗
Doing a fantastic job! Billy/Alex....I've been watching for several years now, back to buying the library, and even before that. When you and Ryan were doing the interviews in the office, very informative. Could you do a series of biographical interviews about your family history, business, chateaux, convent, and all the folks who work with you. At one time Ryan was asking suggestions about subjects for videos and I suggested promos for the various shops and businesses in the area. In other words, A community PR campaign as well. Thought it would be great to promote the community for future efforts of your convent plans. Publish in French and English so your neighbors get t know you. 💖
Mick I have the utmost respect and admiration for you and all you are still able to do at the wonderful age of 80. You are a champion. Love seeing you Bully learning from your dad. Enjoy each moment with him and your mum. Alex fantastic video work as usual. Nice having you back. ❤❤❤❤❤ Paddy those doors are absolutely gorgeous. Ozmo a few times to protect and in place they will look stunning. ❤❤❤
Way to go Mr. Mick Petherick a job well done, I learned alot just by watching you putting it back together. Love the Oak Doors Billy , a wonderful choice. and the best part of see Alex crashing on the grass with his dog. So Sweet. Also Billy you have a comic flare as well. :D Have a wonderful Weekend Crack on Team !
What a wonder how many men that it took to build the convent. Those stones were put in to last. Well done Mick and Billy, Alex. Paddy your craftsmanship is awesome 😍😍 Bon week-end Yannis 👍👍
I love ❤DP A(Daddy Pethericks) whilst Billy is piddling about with his tool belt….. DP, who is the brains behind the operation, is hard at work. Tha channel is so lucky to have him!!
Hello Mick, what a tremendous testimony you are to your family and many others with your ability to work so well at your time of life - well done. The progress is wonderful, and to see those real oak doors is just great!! Best wishes from Lincolnshire
It's not nice to speak ill of the dead, and so I won't talk about my father. Just imagine someone who is the complete opposite of Mick. That's why I'm glued to this channel. I keep thinking, how many people have a dad like this? I'm amazed that people like this exist in the world, and so I'm happy I found this channel.
Gorgeous doors! Paddy's work is obviously first class in every respect. Probably nobody alive now will ever see those doors reach the point they need replacing.
Your pops looks so enchanted when it all comes together. It’s adorable. I started watching 7mins after you posted, it took me all day to finish.😮 The doors are gorgeous.
MR Petherick Senior I could listen to you for hours you are a natural on screen, just like a typical kiwi bloke here in New Zealand, cheers and thanks for sharing your experience.
Love the drone footage! Cute name for your lift! Such a nice fridge! Great gift! Your Dad knows how to everything. Wow that was a problem!!! Awesome back doors. Beautiful. All the best.
I agree, great work guys especially you Mick your a bloody legend! Definitely easier with Alex there to film for you Billy. Makes a bloody huge difference, you are powering through the work. It is wonderful to see a grand old building being renovated and given another life. Cheers Steve
Yes, tool belts are very handy! Most of us just don’t have enough hands. 😂.The doors are beautiful. They will be spectacular when they are up and have glass and are finished.
Having a vision and executing it on this scale, to perfection, takes a lot of skill and courage. Finding and managing a team as well (the best people!), while having a young family….. Billy, you are an amazing young man! Your parents have done a great job raising all of you kids ❤️🙏👏💪
When it comes to holes in stone walls, you ROCK, Billy! LOL! I couldn't help myself. My British side came out!🇬🇧🇺🇲 Cheers Terry Ya'll are doing a beautiful job!
Dont even think of retire Mick. working keeps your mind and body going. Any way you would be badly missed. You are full of knowledge about the building trade.❤❤
A suggestion is to gather some items from around the convent and some photos - lists of names of people who have worked on and contributed around the convent and make a time capsule hidden in the library somewhere for future generations to discover.
Really like the explanations as you go. Not too much talking but really understand what you are doing. Reason you can remove pipes and rocks and how you will make sure it is strong when you are done. Amazing how Dad is able to lift big pipes and cement chunks!
I'm amazed you found quality oak in France considering the amount wanted for the Notre Dame in Paris! Beautiful doors made by Paddy. Your dad - amazing 😊❤
I take my hat off to you Mr Petherick senior for being there for the kids on this project. At 80 you are blessed to be able to do what you do.
My dad was physically active until he was diagnosed with ALS at age 89. He passed quickly.
@@heehaw8401Sorry for your lost 😞

I appreciate that you labeled the label machine label machine.

Sorry for your loss!
Your dad sounds like he was a true blessing in your life, so sorry for your loss.
Dear 26. My condolences on the loss of your Dad. He sounds wonderful. Warmest wishes. Pam
My Mom lived to 93, and she worked alongside her kids her whole life. Your keeping your Dad young.

Billy and Gwen aren't married. Gwen actually owns everything so Billy's work is an act of faith in their relationship.
Mick's beautiful smile. 😊

My British side came out!🇬🇧🇺🇲
Cheers
Terry
Ya'll are doing a beautiful job!
Wow, you are an inspiration, Mr Petherick you know your stuff. Wonderful video. 👏
Thank you Billy, Mick and Alex and best carpenter in France Paddy! So excited to see the doors… can’t believe how much work has been done…
Dont even think of retire Mick. working keeps your mind and body going. Any way you would be badly missed. You are full of knowledge about the building trade.❤❤
What a great project. It is getting better and better. Just like to say the camera man is doing a fantastic job. Well done son.
A suggestion is to gather some items from around the convent and some photos - lists of names of people who have worked on and contributed around the convent and make a time capsule hidden in the library somewhere for future generations to discover.
Mick, you are the man. Keeping up with the younger, keep you young.
Love how methodical and organised your workmanship is. It doesn’t matter how challenging the job is you never let standards slip 💙
Billy please tell your dad I really admire his work ethic. He gives me a positive outlook on life.
Beautiful views at the start, please make more. Greetings from Holland.
I love seeing your Dad working with you. I miss working with my Dad. Dad died at 90 and it was only the last year that he was not feed in cows.
Love those gorgeous doors.
What a great day and hard work done. Happy Friday.
BILLY your so lucky to work and have your dad around.
Really like the explanations as you go. Not too much talking but really understand what you are doing. Reason you can remove pipes and rocks and how you will make sure it is strong when you are done. Amazing how Dad is able to lift big pipes and cement chunks!
Working keeps you young Mr. Petherwick.
I'm amazed you found quality oak in France considering the amount wanted for the Notre Dame in Paris! Beautiful doors made by Paddy.
Your dad - amazing 😊❤
