I am so happy to see documented cultural heritage not diminished or destroyed, directly connected to families that are so closely related to our enslaved ancestors. This part of American history isn't exposed enough. Our young generations are not educated enough about our ancestors.
The yams from Africa are very different from the ones we have in the states. The yams we have here originated here, and were cultivated by the natives of this land. The yams of Africa are harder, bitter, and a darker color than the ones we have here. There are a few inaccuracies in this video, and I would encourage anyone watching to do more research than just this video.

Louisiana hot sauce. Chicken bone in breast smoldered in gravy, Rice A Roni, eggs, seasonings, oatmeal, water, Pepsi, etc. Thank you. beef stew, catfish, can red salmon for croquettes. potatoes, flour, rice, instant potatoes and milk, Cheerios. butter,etc. Bruce can sweet potatoes, Sauerkraut, olives, figs, nuts, corn meal, Folgers Instant Coffee. FYI: The tornadoes has just taken many people's preps and their homes. I shop online every six months for Walmart grocery home delivery, and I eat my preps and share with non beggars. I just came from church and we were talking about the Sabbath. I hear that some slave owners afforded their slaves Sundays off for worship and rest, even though they may have been tending their own crops and slave houses. I also heard about and experienced black churche services being long and fervent. Since my knowledge is limited I'm trying not to overgeneralize. Then we know the stereotypes of blacks and Southerners in general loving fried chicken as indeed I do. But I started to wonder about all the prep that must have been needed in the antebellum south and became curious. I think of the huge spreads of everything on Madea's table, or the Klump table, which may have been accurate How did they before modern refrigeration and techniques did they do all that from scratch? We can begin cooking the day before and keep it warm whilst at church but couldn't imagine how those who cooked would've been able to have time to rest on Sundays. But you see, I'm relying on limited information some of which are stereotypes. Now I see what slaves really did eat and that helps make a little better sense. Many didn't have access to such quality or abundance of food so it is very interesting now that I've looked into it. And I am indeed Christian and no I don't think slavery was condoned by the Bible and in fact was a hypocrisy that went on at the time. It's good to learn historical facts and investigate and not just assume.

We have sweet potato and we make what we call yams out of them. They have a starchy plant that is yam in Africa.
