Primarily, it's because of the Western media. Chinese in China are proud of being Chinese. Even Chinese descent in Southeast Asia still acknowledge they have Chinese roots although they are proud of being citizens of those respective Southeast Asian countries. I only see this issue mostly in Western countries where Asians are considered second-class citizens. Remember that Asians in Asia don't face the same issues like you do.
In which country are Asians seen as "second-class citizens"? Never heard of that. But it's common for leftists in the west to hate their own country, regardless their own nationality. More women than men tend to be leftists.

I was ignorant to think I was 100 Korean all my life. I was born in Korea. Turns out I’m only 52% Korean. 26% Japanese and the remainder Chinese and Mongolian. I liked learning that I was a little Chinese. I felt a sense of unity with Chinese and Japanese. Chinese strangers who sometimes say “you’re Chinese.” Insisting that I looked it. I would say no. They were a little right!
We all share rice, chopsticks, confucianism/buddhism, white skin beauty standards, maintaining/saving "face", no shoes in house, and harsh education culture, so I can see why people from afar if they don't look closely get confused. Lets embrace similarities, and not let differences divide and conquer us 🥰
Personally the worst mindsets ive encountered are if you are seen as an attractive asian person you "must" be mixed, assumption being white. This was coming from asian people themselves old and young. We really need to learn and appreciate how we look..
The only reason why beautiful mixed people stand out is because it’s unusual. The most attractive people of any race are always more pure, at least in my experience.
@@cccycling5835 I'm not a purist. My issue is they think you can only be attractive if you are mixed, that asian features are ugly or lacking by default in their eyes.
Unless you’re a Central Asian or Uyghur then getting a DNA test as an Asian is essentially pointless since most Asian cultures have been anti-race/ethnic mixing for centuries and pride themselves on that. Idk if she was hoping to be 10 - 20% European or 20 - 30% Japanese or Korean (a.k.a the “cool Asians”) but whatever it may be she should’ve known already. 😂 Im like 20 - 25% Chinese and seriously embrace/love that part of me to the max! Shit bro I’d be ecstatic if i was her. She descends from one of the oldest civilizations in history that has an extremely rich and complex history and culture that had a profound influence on its surroundings neighbors and even some parts of the world. They’ve overcame many different rulers who sought control over China. And It’s largely debated that China even rivaled ancient Rome at one point. She should be proud she comes solely from greatness. 👍
China had about 10 dynastic stages where it was better than Rome in every possible way. It was literally THE safe place to be if you wanted aesthetics and civilization. The west completely is ignorant to this info
Chinese don't pride themselves for being pure race. Its the furthest worry for any Chinese living in China. Most knows that the Han ethnicity is very diverse due to centuries of mixing with other ethnicity. You don't see "Chinese only" bar or restaurant in China, but you can see restaurant and bars barring foreigners in South Korea and Japan. Chinese are proud of the region where the come from with distinct dialects and cultural norms. Chinese worldwide (except north america and europe) are proud of their heritage, culture, family values and work ethics, but much less so when it comes to ethnic identity. This is why most Chinese adapt well wherever they settle around the world.
I love how you actually went into genealogy. But yeah I did a DNA test last year and also came out 100% Filipino, which is actually nice cause people always say we have to be mixed with something, which is so weird.
I have a similar experience with 23 and me. I started off at 96% Chinese, then it went to 100%, then it went to 100% from within a 50km of Hong Kong, where I was born. My wife had like 20 different countries, and gets updates every month about new relatives. My updates stopped 5 years ago.
Try 23mofang, a Chinese genetic company. Another poster recommended it. It will give you more detailed results abt ethnicities that you may have (Turkic, Ham, Uyghur, Mongolian, etc).
I'm proud to be Japanese and Korean mix. She should be proud of her ethnicity. Having a platform like she does can be a positive influence on young Asian girls (Chinese if you want to be specific). Her being disappointed in being 100% Chinese will only reinforce to her younger Asian audience that not being mix with something else or being pure ethnic Chinese is not ideal.
I am a mixed asian and I exactly know why she is disappointed. I used to have known a bunch of mixed asian guys and girls and they got much more attention in general, not only among asians. So much so that other pure asian girls and boys used to fake being mixed. One dude even used to say that he is half Korean half Chinese 🤣. I legit heard from non-asian and asian girls “I like you because you don’t look too asian”. Like WTF?
I think in the future, being "MONO RACED" will be seen as cool and attractive. IM actually seeing that in the black community, pure black men and women are seen as beautiful and more grounded.
I’m a Chicano. American raised with Mexican heritage. I’m proud that my grandparents come from Guanajuato. Still, if I found out I was even say 10% Japanese or other Asian I’d be PROUD!
There's a Mexican TH-camr, La Karencita. She worked for some time in VN and people always thought she was Thai, Viet or Filipino. She took a DNA test and found out that she was 99% Mexican Indigenous. She was also a bit disappointed in the results. I think she expected some Chinese or Asian percentage because she was often mistaken for Asian. But then she also explained how various Asians migrated to Mexico, which I found interesting. For me, she looks Mexican but can also pass for SE Asian/ Austronesian.
I dated a Mexican immigrant and she told me her parents wouldn’t let her play with the “brown” kids. She is light skin. Later I found out from that LA city council incident that there is a divide among Mexicans who do not like indigenous Mexicans and prefer those with more Spanish ancestry.
@@majorlazor5058 yes. Some Latinos have told me that there is also colorism among Latinos. Those who have more Euro ancestry and are fair skinned (they're called mestizo/ mestiza) consider themselves superior to those who look more brown/ indigenous or black. (There are also black Latinos because of the slave trade.) Among countries, especially during football (soccer) tournaments like the Copa America & World Cup, countries which have more mestizos like Uruguay & Argentina look down on countries who have more indigenous, like Colombia, Peru, etc (or so I've heard from football forums). It's partly football rivalry & partly colorism & historical wounds.
@@kitty_s23456 cool! I saw a docuseries about black Latinos. Very interesting history. Mexico pretty much erased their Afro Latino history but there is a movement to restore their culture and legacy. Argentina may have g€nocided their black population. They disappeared almost overnight and there isn’t really a solid explanation what happened to them. Columbia is one of the few LatinoAmerican nations that seem to recognize their black population. Their VP is a black woman.
@@majorlazor5058 ooh, I didn't know that the prez now of Colombia is a black woman. That's great that a black and a woman can rise up in politics in Colombia. A Colombian friend was the one who told me that Latinos are very diverse - there are white, brown & black Latinos and everything in between. (I only knew abt the white & brown.) She also said that Paraguay, Uruguay & Argentina are the "whitest" Latino countries. My friend looked white but her brother (full sibling) looked more brown. Interesting how genetics works. She also said that in Colombia, they are not colorist unlike some Latino countries. Brazil also has a large black population. The footballers Pele & Ronaldinho are considered to be black. Brazil brought in Japanese migrants to "whiten" the population, some decades ago.
Being 100% of a specific ethnicity is still considered a rarity by lots of people and that's what is interesting about it... I'm going to make a point that there are those who are mixed proud of being multicultural, and then there are those who aren't due to their colonized past. And personally I am only mixed with other Asian ethnicities, yet still proud of who I am!
They're disappointed they wasted their money. It doesn't tell them anything they didn't already know. What people really want is a detailed family tree going back centuries but that's not something a DNA test can do.
I suspect these companies don't actually have the data to distinguish Chinese people. Plus genealogy data should be kept by your family records not some dna test.
To me, Oriental sounds way better than Mongoloid. Its Latin root "oriri," which means "to rise" which fits well with the hardworking nature associated with East Asians. Too bad it's been ruined by historical racism. Maybe one day it can be reclaimed. That would be nice.
North-east India has people with strong Mongoloid/East Asian features too. Our ancestors had settled down here from South China (Tai-Ahoms), but there are lot of other mixes too, not sure about them. Would be cool to try out the DNA test someday.
Yes. There's this travel vlogger, Taba Yam Ana, who's from NE India. She looks more SE Asian but can also pass for Chinese. She recently travelled to TH, PH, Malaysia. Everywhere she went, people didn't think that she's Indian. I think it's because relatively few people know of NE India and its peoples. I've seen some of her vlogs in her home city. Her family & friends have strong Mongoloid/ Mongolic features.
As a Filipino, I was disappointed that I didn’t have any Chinese blood. Hey, I grew up watching Hong Kong movies. These tests are weird though, especially with the small percentages. I had 1% Korean, then a month or so later, it totally disappeared and I was 1% Indian lol
Reminds me of Uncle Ruckus' disappointment at his DNA results (from The Boondocks). When he got his DNA results, it read "102% African with a 2% margin of error".
I never tested myself, but some people would walk up to me and start speaking Spanish. I am 100% CHinese. My mom came from Hong Kong. My dad's parents came from Guangzhou. A Korean man said Gracias to me when I gave up my seat on the subway for his elderly mother.
i m hispanic as you americans says from argentina. i m about 55% european (spanish of course, italian, french, british and scandinavian), 5% north africa, 5% sub saharan africa and 35% native american. i m happy with my mix and the history of anti racism and integration of so many different peoples here in hispanic america, but i did not know that mixed race people were considered cool in america. that s great news!!! hahaha
Both of my parents came to America 60 years ago from small villages on the southern coast of China. I consider myself 100% Chinese. I would be curious to see if my lineage is of an Asian mix, but it won't change my identity after identifying as Chinese for the last 50 years.
I got 92-95% Chinese an I would love to be 100% Chinese. Like, that's so rare! Also, if you have to ride on being a certain ethnicity to be labeled as cool, then you're not cool. If you're genuinely a cool person, your ethnicity does not matter
I think that the best DNA test for Asians is Circle DNA, it gives you a more comprehensive picture of your bloodlines even within China. With that information I was able to do some research and that makes a lot of sense.
Try also 23mofang, a Chinese genetic company. Another poster recommend it. His friend (Chinese) took it and gave detailed results. The guy had Han, Uyghur, Turkic etc percentage, as well as Scandinavian and South Asian.

I think China should have different ethnicities come out to do their own DNA, so we can narrow it down even more specific to which group of Chinese rather than just Han, Hmong, Tai, etc. I am Hmong and considered myself 100% Hmong, but my DNA shows that I am only 30% Hmong Mien while 65% of North and South Han. BTW, although I am Hmong, and I know where I am from and that's Zhongguo and I am proud with pride.
It's not a good idea. China has been fighting among themself for thousands of years. I would say they fight among themselves more than they fight others. The reason why hans Chinese exist so they can unite. You need to put history into context. They did what Europe couldn't do.
@TheOne30264 Why wouldn't it be a good idea? It's a great idea!! Besides, everyone fights among each other all the time. Look at perfect United States. No country is perfect. This topic is specifically for DNA tracking. Perhaps we're all human race. We should all stop the fight because we're all the same breed to begin with.
Never did a DNA test but as far as I know, I'm of Vietnamese (Kinh) descent from both of my parents. People, including my own family, say I looked mixed, as in half white. While knowing about the colonial history of VN, it would honestly bother me to find out I might have some French or other European ancestry. Couldn't help but think that some colonizer might have r*ped my great great great grandmother or sth. Despite having lived in Europe all my life, I still identify with my Viet roots
Most French did not sleep with Viets. They largely ignored Viets and focused on extracting resources. Americans were the only ones that did the graping in medium level scale. But if you were born from an American it would be very obvious with no questions. So there’s a third option. Kinh Vietnamese are from a mysterious race from elsewhere… perhaps we are even from Europe?
@@mattparke4370 Aren't Kinh like 85% of the population lol? Vietnamese has a ton of loanwords from Hokkien. It's definitely native to the area, not European.
No, you not mixed. Living in Europe give you more pale skin, and bulky body due to climate and foods. Western Climate and food can change your body to more European look in a way.
Frankly, self hate is pretty widespread among Asian women though. She is definitely not alone. At the end of the day, whoever is rich and controls media will be worshipped.
Maybe that's something that Fung Bros needs to investigate. Growing up in early 2000's, I've seen Asian friends who said they want to dance like Filipino or wish they can speak Japanese but from all friends, I never seen Koreans (guys and girls) who wish they were other race or pretended to be one. I never seen any Asian guys claiming to be another race that they were not. However, I did see bunch of Asian girls who claimed that they were part certain ethnicity (Korean, Japanese, Pinay or white) then you find out that they were not. Wonder what's up with that?
Ah Chi-Bai. Doesn't matter what your DNA is. What matters is what type of person you are and how you treat others. The fact she isn't happy with her heritage says it all. You think you would embrace it rather being upset about it.
I originally followed fung bros for food videos, but these type of videos really opened my eyes to so many things I never thought about that Asian people go through or do. I still can't wrap my head around why someone would be disappointed with their ethnicity. I'm white and if I woke up as an Asian guy one day I think it would be neat.
I don't think it's self-hate. This is more like something that was already predictable and has that feeling of having spent money for nothing. If the person has an idea of the family history and the history of the country/region of which they have ancestry. You can't expect something surprising, unless the person is mixed with another ethnic group, etc.
Bart from the other Asian talkgroup did his 23nme back in 2014. By that time they should have had a MUCH larger gene pool to compare to from millions of other Asians. If they still don’t, they are just lazy

It’s not her fault she doesn’t have the mental fortitude and strength to represent her roots. Most asians in western countries lose that pride, she is hardly an exception or it might even be she was joking and not serious, sometimes people read to much into these things.
Is it a joke though? People hide their insecurities behind a thin veil of humour well sometimes. They should be smart enough and have the wherewithal by now to know the harm it may cause from a larger picture or stand point. That or they simply don’t care. And of course they don’t contribute anything to solve the problem or image but add more fuel to the fire so to speak.
I have noticed that most Asian born in Asia are far more confident than those born in America. They dont even care about their accent and they act like who they are. Even their body language is different. The Asians born here have been conditioned from birth to feel inferior to other race.
The word you're looking for instead of Mongoloid is "Sinid". The Sinid phenotype typically feature East Asian traits like beige skin, black hair, monolid eyes, slightly slender build, & etc...

European DNA as high as 28% in a Filipino is extremely rare uncommon. When European DNA does show up in Filipnos it's almost always no more than 1% at the highest. Do you come from a family of elite wealthy Filipino Mestizos?
@@AnXX94 yes. Many filipinos dna results I've seen have some admixture of european dna usually it's around 1%-5% while there some of them that got sizeable european dna that they get from their european ancestor.
Just because she scored 100% Chinese doesn't mean she ought to be 100% Han or Sinitic. If she likes to see more diversity she should try Wegene or 23Mofang, those companies are much better than MyHeritage or 23andme at discerning East & SE Asian ancestries due to the larger sample size or data they have for those regions. I've seen some test results of Far South Chinese or Cantonese individuals from those 2 Chinese companies and they would usually score the following components in addition to Southern Han: Hmong-Mien, Tai-Kradai, Lahu, Gaoshan (Taiwan aborigines), and Kinh. And some may even score a bit of Khmer or Thai (especially the ones from Guangxi).
@Normalman777q I never did any DNA test but I would be really proud if I score even 1% of any of the southern ethnic groups mentioned above. I definitely don't consider them as inferior. And if I could score some SE Asian that would make me even happier.
@Normalman777q Let's be honest. Chinese culture is seen as "uncool" worldwide largely because of the conservative Sinitic or Han culture. Southern minority cultures are perceived as cooler both inside and outside of China.
Huh?! Why would anyone be disappointed about being 100% any nationality? That should be something to be proud of. I myself am an Austronesian, Polynesian, and Southeast Asian plus 1% European, but I don't feel any more cooler than other people?
Also did the 23andme - 82% Sub Saharan Africa, 11% British/Irish, 1.2% Scandinavian, 1.2% Filipino/Austronesian, 0.2 Vietnamese, 1.0 Indigenous American. Being that my ancestors was brought to the Americas as slave I get the European DNA but was totally shocked by the Asian DNA.
As long as that preference for purity doesn't become political policy. Too much abuse and violence has come from a disgust and fear of "foreign" people "tainting" their "perfect" race through the threat of making "mudblood" children.
10:34 in the discussion about canto vs mainland I have found in California that Asian Americans have pretty strong traits in common vs separate Asians. Being Chinese vs Korean vs Japanese vs Taiwanese vs viet matters less. Well, maybe not to Koreans.
I feel like these DNA tests are more for Latinos since we usually have a lot of mixing in Latin America. My sister took one, and she was 80% European (Spain, Italy, Portugal), 5% North African (Morocco), and 15% Native American (Taino).
Exactly unless you're Multiracial or Mixed-race... these DNA tests aren't really enlightening but hysteria-inducing as you won't actually want to know how much "coloniser" DNA you have due to the dark nature of colonialism
No, not really, cos the 23andme has a historical element to it too. I.e. they link to a differentiator.... Or you check and group subgroups etc to find out. You cannot do a static check. Cos if you refer to archiac DNA.. then that is a point, and if you throw in your birthdays and timeline it. Then.. there is your answer.
@MeiinUK I mean, one of my cousins did the other one too, the ancestry one, a couple of years back. It was pretty similar, except her dad is from Wales, so it showed spots from Northern Europe.
I’m 97.2-98% Sub Saharan African and proud of it after getting the results back from Ancestry and 23andMe. It’s close to 100% and I can live with the fact that I have 2.8% European because there were white men in my maternal grandmother’s father’s side of the family. Anyways, that Asian woman should acknowledge the fact that her DNA results are indeed 100% Chinese/Catonese and her ancestors and parents never mixed with Europeans or other people from other countries.
'Chinese' / 'Han' is already in itself a very very very mixed ethnicity. The ethnicity was originally derived from geography, not tribes or genetics, so anyone living within China Proper was considered 'Chinese' / 'Han'. This was further mixed by two thousand years of invasions and migrations and intermarriages and assimilations. Today, if you are Chinese, chances are you have ancestors who are related to the modern day Southeast Asians and the Mongolians and Turkic peoples and the Tibetans and the Koreans and Japanese and even possibly Iranians and Arabs.
23andMe has a hierarchical grouping structure. So that girl's (Shirley?) results say 100% South Chinese, which is a subgroup of Chinese, which in turn is a subgroup of East Asian. But notice how Guangdong is in bold, so she's basically 100% Cantonese. Everyone knows how Cantonese is totally different from mainland Chinese; I don't see how they could be mixed up. For comparison, my 23andMe results say I'm 95.7% Southern Chinese or Taiwanese and 4.3% Northern Chinese or Tibetan. When I expand the 95.7% section, Taiwan is in bold font and it even shows Taipei in very dark red and Tainan in medium dark red when I zoom in. Overall, I think 23andMe has pretty good granularity for Asians now.
shes been claiming she was jewish for years to her christian friends. i remember once a european model in korea claiming to be a jewish, that her grandmother told her she was a jewish, until she got her result of DNA test. no yudean blood at all.
She needs to do a Chinese version DNA test, because there are more that 56 ethnical groups in China, with that test she can see she has actually mixed quite a lot of different bloods. Remember Chinese is a big concept, equal to European.

that statement of indigenous coming from asia is inaccurate. there was people before the crossings. they bred together. The only reason why beautiful mixed people stand out is because it’s unusual. The most attractive people of any race are always more pure, at least in my experience.

Unless you’re a Central Asian or Uyghur then getting a DNA test as an Asian is essentially pointless since most Asian cultures have been anti-race/ethnic mixing for centuries and pride themselves on that. She should be proud she comes solely from greatness. 👍

Huns who came from china literally destroyed romans.

Like WTF?

Among countries, especially during football (soccer) tournaments like the Copa America & World Cup, countries which have more mestizos like Uruguay & Argentina look down on countries who have more indigenous, like Colombia, Peru, etc (or so I've heard from football forums). Brazil also has a large black population. The footballers Pele & Ronaldinho are considered to be black. Brazil brought in Japanese migrants to "whiten" the population, some decades ago.

Indigenous Latin Americans are Native Americans as well.
Damn right ya dig
I'm 25% Japanese but I wish I was 100% Japanese than being mostly caucasian
She is the real Ginanese 😂
I’m pretty sure I’m 100% Korean but I wouldn’t be surprised if I had some Chinese or Japanese in me.
I’m Korean and was almost certain I was going to discover some Chinese or Japanese ancestry. Ended up with 99.9% Korean and .1% Siberian.
@@estherkim6895 韩国人,朝鲜人,从你们的汉字名字,姓氏就可以大致分辨出跟中国有没有关系。
We all can't be happy I found out I was mix and I was disappointed. I wish I was 100%
I'd be honored to have the DNA of the greatest civilisation in human history. As a Meitei, I probably do have. Our first king was from China.
Wow Meitei, names I never even heard of before
She hasn't met Clayton Bigsby.
Say your a self hating Asian without saying your a self hating Asian
All these hand-wringing about their genes is amusing. In the first place, ethnicity is cultural, not genetics.
She needs to do a Chinese version DNA test, because there are more that 56 ethnical groups in China, with that test she can see she has actually mixed quite a lot of different bloods. Remember Chinese is a big concept, equal to European.
I'm so proud of my Chinese heritage, the older I get the more proud I get.
My sister took a test. She was 85% Chinese groups & 15% various South East Asian groups.
Although, I knew an Asian guy, married to a White woman & their 4 sons just look White!! Lol
My cousin, who's also married to a White woman & all his 3 daughters only look White! The odds are wild!
First Asians or Orientals appeared in Europe were Mongols and their predecessors Huns as well 900 years prior. That is why the whole race was determined as their kind.
Wow!! should be proud being 100%.....She's the type that will destroy her 100%...
that statement of indigenous coming from asia is inaccurate. there was people before the crossings. they bred together.
Written by Lucy Thompson, a Yurok author, in 1916, this book is a significant work in preserving the stories and culture of the Yurok people. Thompson’s intent was to share her people’s experiences and traditions with the wider world, particularly during a time when their way of life was under threat.
here is some info.
That was my result. 😂 I’m proud to be a 100% purebred Southern Han Chinese though. I don’t identify as Asian for this reason, since it has an implication of miscegenation, in the same way as White, Black or Latino.
Funny thing is people have asked me if I want to get tested by 23 but I always told them “why? They’re just gonna tell me what I already know anyway, I’m 100% Chinese!” 😂
