I used to mow my neighbors grass in 1970 with one just like the one in the video. It always started, would chop down small trees, and had good speed. The grass was long and thick, but it would not bog down. Gravely made an excellent product. They may be pricey, but quality things do not come cheap.
Kem Hayes the quality doesn’t matter to me I find the design gravely took off with to be just something remarkable. It’s completely original and one of the best things ever made.
No video of the starting process but if you had to wrap a starter cord around s pulley I used one exactly like this, minus the trailing seat, in high school to mow the huge lawn areas. Nice nostalgic moment. Thx.
Can you tell me anything about a gravely walk behind with a serial number of j- 5166? It has no hood but has a deck similar to the one in your video. It has forward and reverse with high low. That's all I know about it. The guy wants $300 for everything. It runs. Also you you repower it with say a motor from harbor freight?
Hey, I've got another question for ya. Is it okay to pull stuff in reverse with a strap wrapped around the brush mower gear box? It would make the work I'm doing right now a TON easier but I don't know if it will damage it.
+W.Co.VIDS The only reason I say its not a good idea is only the horizontal shaft in the brush hog is what holds the 2 parts together. Theres a snap ring on the the gear box end that will give first! Now have I pulled tractors out by that yes, and tie them down around the the gear box too But not a good idea.
stevenpturcheck Thanks much, man! It's just really awkward hauling brush and having to pull up on the bars while watching your step with the strap in the way, I guess I'll have to rig up some sort of hook devise attachment for the front for that kind of work, thanks again!
Yeah people can get crazy with prices for some reason. If your close I'd sell one with a deck that needed work for 200. If your close I have a few I've never monkeyed with and don't have time to get running

How do you steer it so easily? Nice video. The machine sounds like a champ.

Beautiful grounds- should follow up next day with reel mowers.
Looks great for flat area's , I do know if I would try hill sides with it .
would rather be fishing I use them on hills but I’ll usually walk behind it
love that mower

+W.Co.VIDS I'd suggest an snow plow mount. Has holes for a pins already in it. Could use bolts and a short length of chain or such
stevenpturcheck I can get one in fair condition for $250..is that too much?
I need to clear a 1/2 acre lot.

not sure how do you steer it
Michael Wall You just push the handlebars to the left or to the right. It’s articulated in the middle. Later models offered steering brakes.
These things were so much fun to operate.
