To explain to everyone just how amazing of a summon Taylew the Golem Smith truly is, watch the final battle of Distortion2's Shadow of the Erdtree *Summons Only Run.* To those too busy to do so: He can solo the Final Boss without any damage assistance from the Player. All the Player needs to do is heal him from time to time, and he takes Radahn down on his own. He's so tanky that he straight up just eats Radahn's new meteor attack like it was a snack. The only attack Radahn has that can deal any amount of notable damage to Taylew is the Gravity attack where he throws boulders, since I'm guessing Taylew has a weakness to it. Also, unlike Jolán and Anna, Taylew can't get his Heart Stolen by Miquella. After all, he has no time to Simp when there's smithing to be done.
I have used Taylew in Malenia but it was a bad idea because his huge health pool and ability to keep agro on himself turned out to be a healing factor for Malenia...
@@morgenstern7865 First off, let me correct a small misunderstanding. Taylew actually doesn't have that much health in comparison to most Spirit Ashes. He just has an absurd amount of resistances, which is actually really great for a tank, since it makes healing him super efficient. Second, it's Malenia. What did you expect? Most summons struggle with her to the point of healing her more than they damage her. There are only two ways to handle her, which are either an extremely aggressive summon combined with a hyper-offensive player to not give her room to breathe, or a ranged summon that keeps blasting her while the player keeps her agro, like the Big Mouth Imp.

I second that surprise about Andreas - I couldn't believe how little attacking he was actually able to do. You'd expect more poise from a Black Knight Commander.
He has some sort of constant aggro feature, so enemies are less likely to target the player. He's really only good for one boss though, and that's the annoying-as-all-hell Lamentor Gaol boss. You could probably use him on the major bosses if you can deal damage from a distance, but you'd have to finish them quickly since he won't last long.

@@Safetyman99 He's decent for glass cannon builds due to that. While he's alive the boss completely ignores you. Still dies quick, so it becomes a dps race. Mimic is still better most of the time.
Red eye summons are great for aggressive bosses, when the mimic tear wants to stand there forever buffing itself. Red eyes jump right in and take aggro.
Taylew actually doesn't have much health. It just has insane defenses. Fire Knight Q actually has a good use in letting him loose to watch an enemy's moveset before you engage it I might take the Finger Creeper to the Haligtree and see how long it lasts against the revenants.
Taylew having low health and just stupidly cracked defenses is actually perfect, since it makes healing him absurdly efficient. He can tank hits for days, and if he starts getting a bit low on health, all the Player needs to do is cast a single Heal from Afar and he's effectively back to full health. This boi is easily the best Tank Spirit Ash in the entire Game.

I haven’t watched this video yet, I just want to say I really like using the spider scorpion ashes because when you summon it it will just show up literally wherever it feels like. You will summon him and then find out he is posted up a whole km away just staring at the corner, it’s really funny.
This is really worthwhile! I was so disappointed by the Black Knight pair that I just figured the DLC ashes weren't worth much time (and didn't figure out what to do with Jolan until after I handled the final boss). This list turned my opinions right around.
ok, but hear me out, I summoned Rollo +10 for fun and he practically soloed the Dancing Lion. I couldn't believe it and wish I had thought to record the fight.
Jolan/Anna and Mimic are the only Spirit Ashes I use in Boss fights... Since the latest Patch has Buffed ALL Spirit Ashes, I use more of them in other situations.
Big Mouthed Imp is situationally excellent. Knocks Malenia on her ass with every hit, from range, so no life steal. Also, good to use against Erdtree Avatars.
I did try out Fire Knight Hilde and thought she was a pretty solid Spirit Ash. She's pretty aggressive and does have a lot of fire attacks so she can be very good against most of the base game, especially enemies weak to fire.
Shout out to Big Mouth Imp, lil guy may not be the tankiest ash summons but he sure can do DPS if you hold a few enemies back and if you're the front liner and he supports you most mobs get cleared with ease. With my Arcane Strength build I'd bonk an enemy others would flock to me then Big Mouth would literally sit them down so I could get bonks off with ease. He's not the best summons, but he's mine.
Actually Talew is best "final summon" if you equip a couple cracked tears he basically cannot die when paired with Heal from Afar... and that includes Miquella and Radahn.
Quick correction unfortunately i actually looked up where to get the horned warrior ash cause i wanted to use it too since its basically like an upgrade to the banished knight summons from the base game but the fp for him is actually 112 and not 101. they might have changed it last minute since it says 101 on elden ring wiki.
Red Eyed Summons sound really good for bosses? Like, I use a lot of summons, yet usually not to clear mid enemy encampments. [I cursed like a sailor when my mimic just ignored the boss chilling from afar]
The problem with red-eyed summons is that they wander off and don't follow you. Summon one at the Gatefront Grace, and you'll see. For bosses, it's less of an issue.
@@JenniferFuss - There is one non-boss area that I like to use a summons: Caria Manor. A good fire using summons, like Omen Killer Rollo, or one of the fire monks, can help a lot with the big hands. The only red-eyed summons that I think are really useful are the Demi-Humans, and they only have red eyes at night. None of the best summons (Mimic Tear, Black Knife Tiche, Dung-Eater Puppet) have red eyes.
They are. Specifically Redmane knight ogha. Has a gravity greatbow and stays where you summon. So ring the bell, run to the other side of the arena and ogha will just pelt the boss with arrows.
I'm a big fan of Meera and Florissax. They are both under 100 fp, with Meera doing pretty good dps and bleed for Mohg's Rune synergy, and Florissax being a good support with her damage negation buff and long range bolts to pull aggro.
It depends on your build. If you have a really strong build, then mimic is still easily going to be the best. I tried Jolan and Anna, and they were a pale shadow of my mimic.
I dunno about you guys, but I feel like my mimic is dumb as a brick. It feels like I summoned him off a short bus. Half the time he just stands there and does nothing. I feel like they nerfed is aggressiveness a ton since launch.
Taylew is my hero on beating Consort Radahn. I didn't have much time to play, so I used him to tank Radahn, while I threw healing from afar and hefty rot pot 😅
Great vid I'm surprised the dragon summoning didn't make the list...he does ridiculous poise damage while lowering the defense of your opponents lightning negation by 20-40% I can't remember the exact figure but I breezed through the dlc with my storm and lightning build

Youre so right. I tested fire knight queelign in the guards by the gatefront ruins and he doesnt even clear the camp. He just stands there once he kills some of the godrick soldiers. But oh well im collecting ashes in this playthrough.
The two Black Knights feel like a "mileage may vary" from person to person as I've seen them do bad for some people but do really well for others. I've seen Andreas and Huw for myself destroy and chunk down boss health and absolutey demolish normal enemies (Andreas in particular has the potential to just outright stun lock enemies via pancaking them) and them struggling to beat a group of Messmer soldiers. Though Messmer soldiers are overall absolutely torqued in poise damage compared to other enemies because they have a damage boost and constantly do charged attacks.
No cringy title/dialogue: check Obnoxious title missing: check Not telling us to smash the like/subscribe in the first 5 seconds before we've seen anything: check check Nice 5 x 5 list set up and detailed explanations that don't take forever: triple check Subbed.
Black Knight Andreas performed the best for me on Sunflower boss & as I died just before Andres hit the boss & killed it, I did not receive any runes. Did get the rewards.
Taylew is the absolute best option for a 1v1. He still keeps the weakness to attacks from behind (even in the video you see he gets staggered from getting hit in the golem weak spot) which is why for multiple enemies he’s not good but in a 1v1 it’s very unlikely the enemy will hit his weak spot. Taylew and heal from afar is an unstoppable combination.
These are nice and all but I found that nothing beats the mimic with str and fai build, heavy armor, fingerprint shield with no skill, black steal great hammer with prayerfull strike ash of war on it. With that the damn thing is unkillable cos of the healing from the ash of war. 😁
There are actually 5 total Spirit Ashes that you summon using HP instead of FP! the Mimic Tear, of course, and the Bloodfiend Hexer as mentioned in the video but also the Land Squirt, Miranda Sprout, and Soldjars of Fortune Ashes all take HP instead of FP!
there is also one Spirit Ash that uses an equal amount of HP and FP to summon ...of course that would be the Giant Rat Ashes which take absolutely nothing to summon! 😜
If you're fighting a boss in a really big area, Latenna can be the best. Just summon her on one side of the boss area and she'll shoot arrows all the way to the other side constantly
Gonna defend my man Andreas here. He held his own very well in the 2nd to last boss fight with taking a lot of the heat off me and even out lasted ol' reliable Lhutel when I tried using her the first time around.
@@-thebatman- She's actually great because she significantly boosts your (and her own) damage negation. She might not be the best for all builds but she can really beef you up if you're playing a tank build.
@@-thebatman- Even then she's not trash. On her own she can withstand quite a bit of damage and her damage dealt is actually pretty high. In short: She's good regardless of your build and she's very, very good if you run a tank build.
I never got around to trying the fingercreeper, but the fact that it literally flips off damage is the funniest thing. I have to take this little guy out sometime.
There are actually quite a few ashes that take hp. You should look through. They usually aren't particularly good, like Miranda sprouts and land squirts...lol
Summons are different for clearing a camp and fighting a boss. Andrea’s is good for taking aggro in a boss fight but clearly not for taking a camp on by himself. If anything there should be a list for bosses and one for open world situations. But that’s just my opinion 😊
Honestly, I feel like there's something wonky with aggro in the DLC, like there's no aggro table a lot of the time and mobs will just randomly attack whoever for no reason. I even gave my mimic tear the aggro talisman and it didn't make one bit of difference during the boss fights I tested it in. And as soon as I make any attack, the boss is on me and stays on me for a long time.
I went to so much trouble to get the twins. But I end up using ornis instead. Twins are just too squishy. 3 aoe hits will kill them. I had much more success with ornis. I regret getting the twins.
Btw the inquisitors in the manse’s library mostly, they drop golden horn thingies. I think they all drop it in the castle but I found more success with the library without any buffs to get more and my arcane is 12 I got 4 in two or three runs mur derin g them.
Nope. They did the first few times I was there maybe twice they dropped. Just went again, raised arcane with talisman and used the silver horn. 5 tries and only the fat dude gave me once. I don’t think it’s worth it, if they already gave you around 3-5 I forgot how many.
Messmer soldiers are actually pretty good. Probably best duo soldiers ash now, beating out Radahn soldiers. I'd have them around 6-7. Finger creepy is nice support, but as you mentioned is gets stuck healing for no reason. Soldiers just put in work. Not great at anything but solid. Ornis and Horned warrior are beasts and Golem bro is great if you can support his HP (i think his health pool isn't that great, but his defense and poise are great). The sisters can put out some great DPS, but they're glass cannons, especially if you don't support them. I don't know if they'd make it into top 5 overall (but I'd say they're top 10 for sure and can be top 5 for certain situations) with Mimic, Tishe and 💩 eater. I think both bird warriors can be top 5, definitely Horned. Ornis can fight Talew and Nepheli for the 5th place.
Taylew having absurd defense and mediocre total health is an upside, because you can't cast percentage heals... Which means gigachad golem has the most sustainable EHP pool in the game.
Yeah, these guys are like having three extra bossfights in Enir-Ilim. Unless you can nuke them at long range with something like high faith Overlapping Rings spam (because somehow Hornsent are all weak to holy, and that one incantation is probably the highest consistent holy DPS in the game while having obscene amounts of hitstagger/stance damage), they just kind of rush you down and beat you to death.
@FelisImpurrator even then, they tend to shrug off the Multilayered Rings of Light and rush you down. It makes the areas they appear feel like having extra bosses randomly placed throughout the map of an already ridiculously difficult DLC.
@@Joshua_Shadow_Manriguez At 80/80 Int-Fth and max scadublessing the Golden Order seal does like 3k per full charge and just deletes them, but I can definitely imagine them being an absolute nightmare without the player being that stacked.
@FelisImpurrator I could only reach Scadutree level 16 (thinking I was at 17) with 99 Faith and the Erdtree Seal I had been using since I basically always have Black Blade in my spell list. Not that I'd have reached 20 anyway because the DLC was not fun, and the Abyssal Woods are a thing and have three fragments. Hornsent enemies were my most dreaded enemies to fight besides those Frenzy Flame lantern things that one shot you.
I understand not using summons for a challenge, but I've seen some streamers who won't use them and they suffer... it seems to me the bosses are balanced with using summons in mind. Similar to how tough Radhan was on original release, because you are supposed to summon all the NPCs who arrived for the festival, he was so hard they had to nerf him because of all the complaints. I've tried both ways, (with + without) and the game is just so much more fun (to me) when summons are used. Also, Hornsent being summonable inside Messmer's arena means Messmer's health pool does not increase... so, that's a plus.
It's a core mechanic of the game and many bosses were designed with spirits in mind. If you ignore spirits you're essentially doing a challenge run. This is the hardest pill to swallow for this community.
Everyone was saying that Jolan and Anna were so amazing... But they really don't scale well. At NG+4-7 with them at +10 and RSA+10, they get melted by every single boss even when I manage to hold aggro (which is tough because they draw aggro too well). Even most mini-bosses.
I think this is happening with every (or almost every) ash in the DLC. I have only one character and I made it into NG+7 right before the DLC dropped. For me every single ash I used were useless. Both for damage and defense. They were all melting and dying without doing much. The only ash that worked for me was Mimic Tear. I don't think I could have finished the DLC without it.
I'm on NG+7 and I had a similar experience with this summon, where they didn't seem to have a lot of staying power. It's mostly what the boss does that does really determine how effective they can be. If there is a lot of AEO or damage pools they don't last because the scaling isn't the best for summons. This goes for most summons at higher NG+, even Tiche melted fast against some bosses.
@@TheAnish121 Nah not all of them, ma man Dung Eater is still a goddamn beast (boost himself, can attack at range and melee, procs bleed, hella tanky, very good poise, pretty good AI) in Ng+5 and Mimic will always remain busted. But I do agree most summons are straight up useless once you reach a certain point in NG+.
It’s actually kind of infuriating to me that the black knight summons have terrible poise when that’s the only thing that makes the enemy versions remotely challenging.
Maybe the inquisitors are supposed to merely fill a role of similar tithe jelly fish summon, where summoning them unlocks a bit of lore or a new area or something? I can’t think of a reason for why the developers made this summon and made it so weak.

The Horned Warrior, especially post buff just doesn’t get stunned lmao. Man could stand in front of a tank blast and shrug it off.
Quick correction unfortunately i actually looked up where to get the horned warrior ash cause i wanted to use it too since its basically like an upgrade to the banished knight summons from the base game but the fp for him is actually 112 and not 101. they might have changed it last minute since it says 101 on elden ring wiki.
Red Eyed Summons sound really good for bosses?
Like, I use a lot of summons, yet usually not to clear mid enemy encampments.

My mimic does that a lot too sometimes I’ve died before it even aggroed the boss
The problem with red-eyed summons is that they wander off and don't follow you. Summon one at the Gatefront Grace, and you'll see. For bosses, it's less of an issue.
I don't doubt that. I am just not sure why to summon if not for bosses ^^;
@@JenniferFuss - There is one non-boss area that I like to use a summons: Caria Manor. A good fire using summons, like Omen Killer Rollo, or one of the fire monks, can help a lot with the big hands. The only red-eyed summons that I think are really useful are the Demi-Humans, and they only have red eyes at night. None of the best summons (Mimic Tear, Black Knife Tiche, Dung-Eater Puppet) have red eyes.
They are. Specifically Redmane knight ogha. Has a gravity greatbow and stays where you summon. So ring the bell, run to the other side of the arena and ogha will just pelt the boss with arrows.

I'm a big fan of Meera and Florissax. They are both under 100 fp, with Meera doing pretty good dps and bleed for Mohg's Rune synergy, and Florissax being a good support with her damage negation buff and long range bolts to pull aggro.

It depends on your build. If you have a really strong build, then mimic is still easily going to be the best. I tried Jolan and Anna, and they were a pale shadow of my mimic.
Mimic is just so busted it's almost like Co-op lite, probably why they even made it tbh.
The video was about the ashes you get in the DLC. Still, the mimic is the most OP

I dunno about you guys, but I feel like my mimic is dumb as a brick. It feels like I summoned him off a short bus. Half the time he just stands there and does nothing. I feel like they nerfed is aggressiveness a ton since launch.

Taylew is my hero on beating Consort Radahn. I didn't have much time to play, so I used him to tank Radahn, while I threw healing from afar and hefty rot pot 😅

Great vid I'm surprised the dragon summoning didn't make the list...he does ridiculous poise damage while lowering the defense of your opponents lightning negation by 20-40% I can't remember the exact figure but I breezed through the dlc with my storm and lightning build

Youre so right. I tested fire knight queelign in the guards by the gatefront ruins and he doesnt even clear the camp. He just stands there once he kills some of the godrick soldiers. But oh well im collecting ashes in this playthrough.
Ornis is such a fun summon, but now I’m looking forward to trying out some of these others
The two Black Knights feel like a "mileage may vary" from person to person as I've seen them do bad for some people but do really well for others. I've seen Andreas and Huw for myself destroy and chunk down boss health and absolutey demolish normal enemies (Andreas in particular has the potential to just outright stun lock enemies via pancaking them) and them struggling to beat a group of Messmer soldiers. Though Messmer soldiers are overall absolutely torqued in poise damage compared to other enemies because they have a damage boost and constantly do charged attacks.
One of mg favourite ashes in the DLC is the bigmouth imp, it's poise damage is very big and it has a good healtpool as well

Black Knight Andreas performed the best for me on Sunflower boss & as I died just before Andres hit the boss & killed it, I did not receive any runes. Did get the rewards.
Andreas is extremely useful since he is very tanky and he keep bosses aggroed at him all the time

I'm surprised Florissax is not included as best, she can really hold her own in the DLC.
Taylew is the absolute best option for a 1v1. He still keeps the weakness to attacks from behind (even in the video you see he gets staggered from getting hit in the golem weak spot) which is why for multiple enemies he’s not good but in a 1v1 it’s very unlikely the enemy will hit his weak spot. Taylew and heal from afar is an unstoppable combination.
These are nice and all but I found that nothing beats the mimic with str and fai build, heavy armor, fingerprint shield with no skill, black steal great hammer with prayerfull strike ash of war on it. With that the damn thing is unkillable cos of the healing from the ash of war. 😁
There are actually 5 total Spirit Ashes that you summon using HP instead of FP!
the Mimic Tear, of course, and the Bloodfiend Hexer as mentioned in the video
but also the Land Squirt, Miranda Sprout, and Soldjars of Fortune Ashes all take HP instead of FP!
there is also one Spirit Ash that uses an equal amount of HP and FP to summon
...of course that would be the Giant Rat Ashes which take absolutely nothing to summon! 😜
Hey dom! You forgot to mention, with the divine bird warrior spirit ash, he can pick up npc invaders!

@@Cyberaser they have a little grab with their feet, so when they use the grab, the pickup the NPC invader, fly up in the air, and slam them back down

If you're fighting a boss in a really big area, Latenna can be the best. Just summon her on one side of the boss area and she'll shoot arrows all the way to the other side constantly
Gonna defend my man Andreas here. He held his own very well in the 2nd to last boss fight with taking a lot of the heat off me and even out lasted ol' reliable Lhutel when I tried using her the first time around.

@@-thebatman- She's actually great because she significantly boosts your (and her own) damage negation. She might not be the best for all builds but she can really beef you up if you're playing a tank build.

@@-thebatman- Even then she's not trash. On her own she can withstand quite a bit of damage and her damage dealt is actually pretty high.
In short: She's good regardless of your build and she's very, very good if you run a tank build.

A good bit of reports that for many Jolan and Anna are bugged and their damage isn't scaling with level so something to be aware of
I never got around to trying the fingercreeper, but the fact that it literally flips off damage is the funniest thing. I have to take this little guy out sometime.

There are actually quite a few ashes that take hp. You should look through. They usually aren't particularly good, like Miranda sprouts and land squirts...lol

Summons are different for clearing a camp and fighting a boss. Andrea’s is good for taking aggro in a boss fight but clearly not for taking a camp on by himself. If anything there should be a list for bosses and one for open world situations. But that’s just my opinion 😊
There are 4 spirit ash that use HP. Miranda Sprout and Soldjars of Fortune also use it.

11:15 there's like three or four spirit ashes which use HP, I can think of jars and land squirts

Honestly, I feel like there's something wonky with aggro in the DLC, like there's no aggro table a lot of the time and mobs will just randomly attack whoever for no reason. I even gave my mimic tear the aggro talisman and it didn't make one bit of difference during the boss fights I tested it in. And as soon as I make any attack, the boss is on me and stays on me for a long time.
I went to so much trouble to get the twins. But I end up using ornis instead. Twins are just too squishy. 3 aoe hits will kill them. I had much more success with ornis. I regret getting the twins.
The Mesmer Soldiers' Ash is actually pretty good, I'd put it the Top 5.
I tried Taylew and Ornis and wasn't very impressed tbh.

Btw the inquisitors in the manse’s library mostly, they drop golden horn thingies.
I think they all drop it in the castle but I found more success with the library without any buffs to get more and my arcane is 12 I got 4 in two or three runs mur derin g them.
Nope. They did the first few times I was there maybe twice they dropped.
Just went again, raised arcane with talisman and used the silver horn.
5 tries and only the fat dude gave me once. I don’t think it’s worth it, if they already gave you around 3-5 I forgot how many.
Messmer soldiers are actually pretty good. Probably best duo soldiers ash now, beating out Radahn soldiers. I'd have them around 6-7. Finger creepy is nice support, but as you mentioned is gets stuck healing for no reason. Soldiers just put in work. Not great at anything but solid. Ornis and Horned warrior are beasts and Golem bro is great if you can support his HP (i think his health pool isn't that great, but his defense and poise are great). The sisters can put out some great DPS, but they're glass cannons, especially if you don't support them. I don't know if they'd make it into top 5 overall (but I'd say they're top 10 for sure and can be top 5 for certain situations) with Mimic, Tishe and 💩 eater. I think both bird warriors can be top 5, definitely Horned. Ornis can fight Talew and Nepheli for the 5th place.
Taylew having absurd defense and mediocre total health is an upside, because you can't cast percentage heals... Which means gigachad golem has the most sustainable EHP pool in the game.

I upgraded the Hexer to full as soon as I got it thinking it was going to be amazing support like Latenna... Terrible decision!
It'd be kind of insane if the Hornsent warrior, one of the most broken standard enemies in the DLC, wasn't a boss of a Spirit Ash.
Yeah, these guys are like having three extra bossfights in Enir-Ilim. Unless you can nuke them at long range with something like high faith Overlapping Rings spam (because somehow Hornsent are all weak to holy, and that one incantation is probably the highest consistent holy DPS in the game while having obscene amounts of hitstagger/stance damage), they just kind of rush you down and beat you to death.
@FelisImpurrator even then, they tend to shrug off the Multilayered Rings of Light and rush you down. It makes the areas they appear feel like having extra bosses randomly placed throughout the map of an already ridiculously difficult DLC.
@@Joshua_Shadow_Manriguez At 80/80 Int-Fth and max scadublessing the Golden Order seal does like 3k per full charge and just deletes them, but I can definitely imagine them being an absolute nightmare without the player being that stacked.
@FelisImpurrator I could only reach Scadutree level 16 (thinking I was at 17) with 99 Faith and the Erdtree Seal I had been using since I basically always have Black Blade in my spell list. Not that I'd have reached 20 anyway because the DLC was not fun, and the Abyssal Woods are a thing and have three fragments. Hornsent enemies were my most dreaded enemies to fight besides those Frenzy Flame lantern things that one shot you.
I understand not using summons for a challenge, but I've seen some streamers who won't use them and they suffer... it seems to me the bosses are balanced with using summons in mind. Similar to how tough Radhan was on original release, because you are supposed to summon all the NPCs who arrived for the festival, he was so hard they had to nerf him because of all the complaints. I've tried both ways, (with + without) and the game is just so much more fun (to me) when summons are used. Also, Hornsent being summonable inside Messmer's arena means Messmer's health pool does not increase... so, that's a plus.
It's a core mechanic of the game and many bosses were designed with spirits in mind. If you ignore spirits you're essentially doing a challenge run. This is the hardest pill to swallow for this community.
I'll just stick with my Mimic but this list is surprising. I thought some of these would perform much better or much worse...

Yes, I am also surpised not to even see "Ancient Dragon Florissax" in the list. It is (for me at least) the 2nd best spirit ash.
Everyone was saying that Jolan and Anna were so amazing... But they really don't scale well. At NG+4-7 with them at +10 and RSA+10, they get melted by every single boss even when I manage to hold aggro (which is tough because they draw aggro too well). Even most mini-bosses.
I think this is happening with every (or almost every) ash in the DLC. I have only one character and I made it into NG+7 right before the DLC dropped. For me every single ash I used were useless. Both for damage and defense. They were all melting and dying without doing much. The only ash that worked for me was Mimic Tear. I don't think I could have finished the DLC without it.
I'm on NG+7 and I had a similar experience with this summon, where they didn't seem to have a lot of staying power. It's mostly what the boss does that does really determine how effective they can be. If there is a lot of AEO or damage pools they don't last because the scaling isn't the best for summons. This goes for most summons at higher NG+, even Tiche melted fast against some bosses.
The best spirit ash to me is still Tiche. I have to try the horned warrior because jolan and anna was a major disappointment they die way too early.

@@TheAnish121 Nah not all of them, ma man Dung Eater is still a goddamn beast (boost himself, can attack at range and melee, procs bleed, hella tanky, very good poise, pretty good AI) in Ng+5 and Mimic will always remain busted.
But I do agree most summons are straight up useless once you reach a certain point in NG+.
I used dung eater in the base game and it was pretty good (supposedly).. how's that holding up now in the DLC?
It’s actually kind of infuriating to me that the black knight summons have terrible poise when that’s the only thing that makes the enemy versions remotely challenging.
Maybe the inquisitors are supposed to merely fill a role of similar tithe jelly fish summon, where summoning them unlocks a bit of lore or a new area or something? I can’t think of a reason for why the developers made this summon and made it so weak.
