न तस्य प्रतिमा अस्ति यस्य नाम महद्यशः । हिरण्यगर्भ इ्त्येष मा मा हिंसीदित्येषा यस्मान्न जात इत्येषः ॥ Yajurved I would request everyone to understand the Vedas and follow it, they used to meditate to the Divine, idol distracts us from this Because Almighty God has no Pratima, Pratima is a creation of human, not the creator
Pictures and sculpture or idol or murti (a murti however is usually conscerated ) are symbolic of the many aspects ... such as eg how open Shivas" eyes are , will tell you the state he is in , like meditative or Rudra and so on ...Ganesh ji has a lot of symbolism too that we subconsciously understand ... Thus they are not particularly literal reoresentations but a summary of the many aspects in visual form ....like a prototype made for a idea rather than theoritical explanation and you trying to imagine the product idea .... but i believe those who had Darshan contributed towards documenting their Darshan and matched their experience to scripture and finally gave guidelines for visual representation ...., so that even the unenlightened can have some idea about what to meditate upon ... Mainly from our level of existence , we naturally are dependent upon form to understand anything . (and that too qe barely manage !) Formless , is actually very abstract and can become distorted very quickly and easily for the follower and lead him into a path of abstraction & thus exploitation by others who claim to know. Thus like today , concepts of femisim have become abstract ...for eg. Thus at the level of society we need form especially for our Gods.... , personally it might not be so for someone...., which is why in Hinduism , there is no obligation to do anything , like prayer or ritual , because ultimately the formless within us anyway is communicating with the ultimate formlessness. All rituals and mantras and practices are there simply to speed up the process of ending the cycle of life and death or merging with/into formlessness . Thus Dharma is the only truly formless system , all others are stuck with books and idols or suffering ... This is my humble understanding of the matter , i am no authority on the subject and i could be wrong . 🙏

It all depends on your beliefs. If you are curious about knowledge, don't believe in idol Worship because if you do it, it inhibits your curiosity to know more. But if you are not curious to know more around you and you are happy in whatever way you born than idol worship is helpful to put your action in right way. As each idol has its own story, each story is attached with some message; try to imbibe that message. For example, if you worship Ram but do not follow the message of RAM being a character want to give us than there is no sense in worshiping RAM. We are actually making ourselves a fool. There are many layers of Hinduism and Idol worship is the most superficial layer of Hinduism. When we go into the depths of our religion, it is again and again focused on spirituality. Spirituality is to know more and more about yourself with your current level of your intellect. We know us better only when our intellect is more logical and scientific. Hence Hinduism again and again says to increase your knowledge. That is the core meaning of spirituality and hence Hinduism. Our FOUR spiritual gurus of HINDIUSM are- SHIVA, BUDDHA, MAHAVIR and GURUNANAK. If you want to know the "true" knowledge and meaning of life, then follow the life of these GREAT human beings who transform themselves into "superhuman beings" by their power of spirituality. Rest are "stories" written by many, many Sadhus and Sants by their level of intellect and mediocre people stamped it as religious texts. Religion is a Western concept, which is a "set of principles" that their follower has to follow. Often these set of Principle are uniform, which is why Western religious philosophy are rigid and forces the follower to live life in certain ways. But Eastern philosophy is not focused on set principles or rules and regulations but on knowing ourselves better i.e. spirituality. Different people from different geographic regions understand themselves differently with their available level of intellect and knowledge, and hence, there is such heterogenity in understanding Hinduism. No single person or organization or authority can take responsibility for Hinduism because if we are doing this, we are reducing the dimension of Hinduism in understanding the meaning of life. Hinduism is everywhere; it is in our action, it is in our professions, its in the science and it is every single individual who is living their life, including in Western philosophies. Those who are limiting Hindusim with Idol worship, I can just pray for them that they will one day understand the power, knowledge, and depth of Hinduism. Hinduism doesn't differentiate individual human beings from each other by their birth, color, and place. But ironically, some mediocre people take the authority of decoding Hinduism by using some textbooks that are actually written by themself with their limited mind of understanding Hinduism. Stories are to give a message and People Life is to Follow. It is our Intellect and understanding, what we have to follow---- the stories or the Great peoples (SHIVA, BUDDHA, MAHAVIR or GURUNANAK). It all depends on your intellect......!!!!

BUT without murti/picture you cannot have a sakar version of God.😂😂 This is the great contradiction with murti puja🤦♂️😂 It is the only correct way and it's also the wrong way at the same time😂
with all respect to you Zakir Naik said this exactly in his debate these same words, people who cant concentrate or blv in a concept of god without imagining him physically Vedas claim to support those less intelligent mentally to pray to idol and if compared all Muslim r more intelligent n able to pray better than Hindus . my simple question to you is when GOD knows his creations why didnt he made his ved in simple way so people can concentrate rather than blaming his own creations saying some and most are less inteligent ?? here who god recomends as inteligent people ? brahmins ?
Some Brahmins also can’t pray to god without idols. This concept was for all humans and not only one sect I believe. What Naik said is absolute trash. He basically said that all those who practice idolatry are less intelligent or dumb. I would only say that, our idolatry isn’t harming any living being, so what’s the harm in it? At least we aren’t doing forced conversions, terrorism or killing innocent animals in the name of festivals. 😊🙏
Why should anybody obey you? Plz spread peace and harmony. Don’t wanna comment upon your religion but plz be practical and move outta this homogeneous mentality 🙏

Very good explanation - some people are more visual whereas some people are more conceptual. We understand and connect to God as per our ability.

So, you are implying that those who do idol worship are unintelligent? Hmmphh, I wonder where Srinivasa Ramanujan fits.
Read the Vedas, not the commentaries on Veads, you'll know the difference between 'Sanbuddhi' and 'Asanbuddhi'
