What do you use to back your fabric before you cut it? Thank you for the demo. Your project is great live the colors.

Any advice or videos for those of us with Babylock machines? I’m guessing we just have to use a thumb drive to transfer the images?

I believe you are correct. I have babylock machines at the store. Let me see if I can do something like this on one with the scan n cut and do a video.

I saved a cut file from the Babylock that I created to a USB stick and the scan n cut was able to read it and cut it out. New video uploaded today but I forgot to show the transfer part.

Hi Rosemary, did you send the satin filled applique back to the scan and cut, and allow it to cut out the completed applique? I would love to see the whole process from start to finish. Its very difficult to find anyone to do it from start to finish.

Yes I did cut the letters out with the scan n cut. I am working on another appliqué video right now. Hopefully I will have it up soon.

@@enchantingrosemary8776 after the embroidery machine did the satin stitch you sent it back to the scan and cut? this is the part everybody leave off and this is really one of the most important part of the closed loop communication between scan cut >embroidery >back to scan and cut, totally deleting the need to use any scissors in the process. I wish we could see this entire process but everyone leaves this part to our imagination. I would think the stitch allowance would need to be adjusted but by how much? When the appliqué is sent back to the scan and cut AFTER the satin stitch by the embroidery machine through my connection? I have the stellaire XP1. I am trying to learn this process. Thanks

Denise, I am sorry but I am not sure what you mean by sending it back to the scan n cut after it does the satin stitch. It sews the appliqué in place on the runner and I don’t send it back to the scan n cut. I watched the video and the whole process is there. I am still working on a new appliqué video so maybe that one will be helpful to you.

@@enchantingrosemary8776 I understand. I am not sure if you are aware, per Brother and other artistic seamstress, and other videos that I have recently seen here on youtube, after your luminaire does the satin stitch, you can send the image of your satin stitched applique (via "my connection") to your scan n cut DX325/330 models only. You know where you save your work on the luminaire, in that same area, you will see your scan in cut in that area where you save your work to "machine", "usb", "usb w/mouse", you will see your scan and cut there to, it appears like a printer, when you click that, your satin stitched image goes back to your scan n cut through "My Connection". You take the applique off the hoop and place it on the scan and cut mat, and perform the scan feature. The image is scanned from the luminaire now appears on the screen of the scan and cut. You line it up, like you would during any scan, and it will cut out your satrin stitched applique, perfectly. This is the main reason why Brother require that unique activation code that comes inside the box so that the luminaire/Stellaire can communicate back to the scan and cut after the applique is complete. You no longer need any scissors in this process anymore. "Power Tools with Threads" did a long session over two parts about this feature In her Oct 25 and Oct 26, 2003 session before she left for her road show. But she left somethings out, and instead, she used Embrillance to turn her image into an applique to design her stitches. Then she sent the image to Scan and Cut and I think to her luminaire then back to scan and cut. I was a little confused because she brought Embrillance into it to design her stitch type, width and density. I didnt have my activation code from Brother for my DX325 yet to follow along, so I got lost with her. But Also, Terry Maffitt covers it pretty well. But I am still missing a step. I think Terry Maffitt video is called "Send your Enhanced Applique Design Wirelessly to ScanNCut SDX 330D - Lesson 2". She didnt show the scan and cut actually cutting out the applique sent by her Luminaire to scan and cut. SHe just left us with the idea that it could be done. But I dont know about the stitch allowance setting for the scan and cut cut out. "Allbrands" did it recently, I cant find that video, maybe I will just call the store and they can tell me which video it is. But it is definitely doable. I am hoping someone can do it step by step: Canvas workspace> image to scan and cut to cut out> send image to Luminaire/Stellaire wirelessly/usb> hoop to satin stitch applique> after satin stitch completed>send satin stitch applique image back to scan and cut via My connection> unhoop applique> retrieve image (wirelessly/usb) from scan and cut, where you see your completed applique on the screen> scan your mat with the applique on your mat>line it up, like you normally do> then your satin stitched applique is cut out perfectly without you having to use any scissors. Brother did a terrble job marketing this. magnificent feature, "closed loop communication". After several days of communicating with Brother about this feature last week, they said they will do a better job moving forward. They sent me three activation codes via email last week, so that communication could flow from my stellaire to my scan and cut wirelessly. Without the activation code, the scan and cut communicated with my stellaire but communication from stellaire to scan and cut was not possible without that activation code. And even if you have both your scan and cut and embroidery machine connected in Artspira and or Canvasworkspace, communcation will not flow from Stellaire/luminaire to scan and cut without that activation code. That code is contained inside the box kinda of just thrown inside, for the DX325/330 model only. I likely threw that card away with the activation code on it not knowing the significance. Ok I have talked enough. I will just start practicing but if you have time, can you see if you can figure this out for us with all the steps? I have only had my embroidery machine for 8 months and scan and cut since Oct 23, so I am still learning. Thank you so much Rosemary. Happy Holiday

Thank you for sharing an awesome presentation how to appliqué shapes using Scan & Cut. Can you make a video for those that don’t have WiFi on their sewing machine and how to apply this technique? I have Babylock BLSOG2 Ellisimo Gold 2 & Pfaff Creative Sensation (Not the Pro) that do not have WiFi and want to know how to appliqué using scan & cut and apply it to my embroidery machines. Thank you.

Are you looking for how to save the cut file from a purchased design and send it to the scan n cut or how to create an appliqué for the scan n cut? Without design center or software that would be difficult. Does your baby lock have design center or baby locks equivalent?

How did you appliqué around it? Was it a built in design to your machine?

Do you have a Luminaire or Stellaire? If you watch the video that comes before that one called “connect on the Luminaire” it explains how I created the appliqué. You can also create your own appliqué with PE design software.

What is the roller attachment please I. In uk and have scan n cut sdx1200?

I am not familiar with that model. Brother has several scan n cut models though. The vinyl roller attachment allows you to add a roll of vinyl to the scan n cut without a mat and cut long pieces. Go to Brother’s website or if you have a brother dealer near you see if they have one and if it works on your machine. It actually came with the SDX330 or SDX325.
