A great history for all. Loved the twists and turns. Ponniyin selvan. Even though, I'm Telugu by birth, Mani sir ignited my thoughts to purchase and read the book on Rajaraja chola... Names sound different but beauty when speaking.... Entire Tamil industry in the movie.... Grand Magnum,, opus... Flattened by Trisha..... Truly wonderful 👍🏼👍🏼

Kalki's novel could be trifle slow but i recall that the elders in my family were avid fans like most Tamil readers.While the circulation of the magazine was over 70k every copy had perhaps over ten readers. And later the book has been a favourite of millions. From a poor family, Kalki was a many-sided genius and an active congressman/reformer and died when he was about 50 years of age. His characters were many layered and complex. The women were independent. And while writing the book he consulted Prof K A N Sastri the authority on the Cholas. Perhaps it takes a Mani ratnam to even make a film like this!

Especially in art work and CG. If Rajamouli takes "Mahabharata", we watch that movie too. Even though we know the story. Maniratnam also make script from real incidence or from puranas only and he accepted that. Ponniyin Selvan is not a great story, but it's good screenplay. Lots of good scenes in that. It can convert in to Web series not movie.

We know Mughal dynasty story in books, it's like a story. But Mughal-e-Azam was a screenplay. Kalki write the perfect screenplay for Raja Raja cholan story. I was born and raised in Erstwhile Madras and can understand Tamizh well. Too many characters as usual in old novels. In my opinion the storyline is too complicated and not engrossing. Wonder how Maniratnam will project it on screen! Wish him good luck
