I must say, I never really think about playing electric guitars, (just acoustic ukuleles) but that one turned my head. What an amazing little firecracker with a big bang sound. That's definitely an instrument I appreciate. Thank you for these, and have a wonderful time with the family.. 😃
ive been looking into three quarter / travel electric guitars for a while as being a bit of a short arsed wheelchair user makes full size guitars a bit difficult. my Dad bought me a dreadnought acoustic when i was younger thats bigger than i am!! (slight exaggeration but it feels like it,) ive been looking at the hofner shorty deluxe but this one appeals too, might put it on the list. Having to use a smaller guitar doesnt bother me, im never getting up on stage, its just for lounging around playing for myself.
Hi Baz, looking over some part reviews and came across this. Wow! I absolutely adore this! What a beautiful instrument😍 Live these midweek 'not a ukulele' reviews. This one had my old stiff fingers wanting to dance across the six strings again, like they once could 😢 Love, love, love it!!! Thanks for this Baz, made my day! Stay safe mate! 👍🏼
You're going to need a small guitar version of your opening jingle for these Not A Ukulele reviews! lol Thanks for doing these, I am learning a lot and considering taking the plunge more with each post
i wonder if this would be great for me. im a flight attendant so im always away from home. i want to have a guitar with me to practice with on layovers. :/
Thanks for the well done and detailed review, I ordered this exact color and model last night. I'm really looking forward to playing it. I have several guitars but I'm hoping this guitar's small size will motivate me to practice more. Thanks, take care.
This isn't carved out of one piece of okoume, but has instead, a one-piece body. The neck is indeed glued in. Blackstar has a video showing this. Overall, this is a very fine travel guitar. Ery good review. Thanks for sharing.
Big fan of this! Cream with tortoiseshell is very classy, my #1 bass is a jazz bass with the same look. Like the pickup as well - I'm a big proponent of coil splits whenever possible
This is a really sexy looking guitar to my eye. Affordable too. Ability to split coils on the pickup is nice. I would love this with a tremolo bar, but that’s greedy.
I need an electric travel guitar (GS mini still too big) and my 9 year old wants to learn so I’ve got the perfect excuse to add another guitar to my collection lol
Gordon Smith has designed them a little Firecracker! Can’t go wrong if you want a small electric guitar, most of the others just don’t either look or handle as well, I have tried one and was gobsmacked by it - I wasn’t looking for one but when I saw it I just had to try it! Now on my saving up for list, an ESP LTD hybrid nylon strung acoustic is first!
@@GotAUkulele I did as you suggested on insta! Their reply: out of stock right now, but the Mini May will return in 2023 - happy to hear from folks interested in featuring our products
Wow Baz, a great sound in a small package. With that much output, you either live in a detached house or have very understanding neighbours. Either way it sounded great.
I like it. I usually prefer a neck pickup if there's a single, but this sounded nice at least on the video. Really like the one piece of wood construction; solid and will never need resetting.
The way you're holding it, it looks very light indeed, unless you're just very strong 😏 Good for travel but also good for ukulele players used to playing a light instrument kicking back on the sofa
@@GotAUkulele I used to play mandolin bluegrass style. Tiny frets feel natural. Short scale guitars with light gauge strings require precise technique for good results
Nice honest review of the tone. Few reviewers out there running it through cab sims and wizardry which does not give a real sense of tone for the hotel dweller this is aimed at.. Thanks again. 👍🇦🇺
I really like this little guitar! To me it has a big sound and it is travel and picnic campfire friendly. The price is not bad. This was a good one….thanks…DOC
What annoys me is, they can produce a travel guitar for a limited market. However, what is it really? A baritone ukulele with two extra strings. They couldn't produce a baritone uke for, I'm sure a larger market. I have commented on this before, basically it annoys me as a baritone player. The are all producing Tenor electric ukes, but the one uke that lends itself to being electric is ignored.
Whilst I'd agree that I see no sense in the uke makers ignoring the baritone electrics - they are uke makers. Blackstar have nothing to do with the uke world so they'd be getting into a market they have no presence in.
@@GotAUkulele I see your point, but nowadays you have to diversify, and it would be something to look at. As I said, it is almost a baritone uke anyway.
I think ukes will be well down the list of things Blackstar would choose to look at though - they are an amp company - this guitar in itself is a BIG departure for them. We can't even get Fender to make an electric uke!
@@robdangerfield7129 I've long said that if Fender made a solid electric in their Mexican factory (like they did with the superb Tenor Tele) they would totally clean up in the electric uke market - they'd leave RISA and Flight in the dust. But Fender don't seem to move in ukulele circles despite making acoustics. It's VERY strange - they could unleash a monster!
Sounded great when you strummed open strings. But when you pressed down and played a chord yikes!!! Intonation is really off! Way out of tune!! That is the problem with short scale guitars Have to put 12's on them and stretch them out for a few days real hard. Then adjust the intonation at the bridge and truss rod if their is one. Distortion made it like nails on the chalkboard. Looks sharp though!!
@@GotAUkulele Might take a chance on one. A major Vox /Korg retailer in the US ( I have purchased great deals from them in the past) is selling these for 150 US. Free Shipping. Other retailers are asking 335-500 us. Just for the guitar alone. The package with the amp is around 400-650 us.
@@GotAUkulele Just received mine. I tuned it and it plays perfectly in tune. I am guessing my sellers, Korg USA set it up for me. Maybe they stretched the strings and tweaked it beforehand? At $149 US new it is a steal. I purchased a Vox mk3($129 new) and a gibson Maestro V (100 used)also. The Vox took a few days to adjust. Its ok. Tiny frets! The v is a nightmare!!! Way out of tune!! Unusable. Will sell. The Blackstar has much bigger frets and feels 10 times more solid than the other 2. The Blackstar feels like a great instrument, the other 2 feel like toys. No bother - figure there is little point in using effects or dirt as that will vary from set up to set up. The core sound is what matters

Certainly much smaller to carry than a regular electric!

‘Leccy jam master in baritone Uke proportions….what’s not to like?!? 😎👍. It looks just right for lazing back on the sofa and chilling out🎸🇬🇧👏👏👏
On shorter scale lengths it seems harder to do bends. Do you find that to be true or is it just my weak fingers?
I found it almost too easy to bend on this due to lower tension
Sounds more accoustic in clean
