I think the reason it lags when changing scenes and characters is because the engine loads all of their sprites and the background and the background is animated on the 2cd stage scene, so if you want to play it lag free, play the whole song and then at the end press restart song and everything should be loaded and lag free (mostly) or just use charting mode to skip to the stage changes so you can load the full song lag free.
