I drove a 1956 Porsche 356A Speedster for 10 years in the mid 1970's. I had more fun driving fast on mountain roads in Santa Cruz County in California. Although it required more basic maintenance than more modern vehicles at the time I still enjoyed driving it. I finally sold it to a Ford engineer who lived locally for $10K. Purchased it for $2600 in about 1970. Great design, fantastic handling. Great memories thanks to Feri Porsche.
Even if electric engines had taken off instead of petroleum-based engines, we'd still be in much of the same mess we're in today. Yes, it would have decreased some of the carbon footprint, but the bigger influence of oil was its effects on food production and fertilizer. In fact, that's the central reason why we're not getting off of fossil fuels anytime soon, whether we switch to electric cars or not. It's not just our cars. We literally eat oil, and our global population would be only a tiny fraction of what it is today without it. In fact, I recommend a documentary on Fritz Haber, the German chemist who revolutionized the production of fertilizer.
I owned a red 1982 Porsche 911RS Carrera. I loved the car, the association with Hitler, not so much. As an undergraduate, I had a philosophy professor who was a Rabbi and a Holocaust survivor. He drove a Mercedes 6.9 and a Porsche. I asked him how he could buy a car with that heritage. He said, "Revenge, Kenny...Revenge." RIP - Rebi
Everyone has a past. Don’t worry about it, it’s a phenomenal car. The desperate obsession with “canceling” everything that doesn’t conform to modern ideas or whims is a temporary trend
Everyone likes to ignore the Chevrolet Corvair to the 911 connection... You see, in 1959-60 Porsche was building a flat 4, making about 36 HP. Chevrolet came out with their flat 6, 90-110 HP. in 1960. Porsche wanted a flat 6, but could not solve the center cylinder cooling problem.... By 1965 Porsche has hired the Chevrolet engineer, who also was a aircraft radial engine designer. To solve Porsche's 6 cylinder cooling problem. and that is the rest of the story.... So, when you snooty Porsche guys see a Corvair on the road, tip your hat to your pappy... Germans HATE this truth.
Excellent historical information and on balance, fairly presented. No one builds cars like the Germans and I’ve owned them all in my 70 years on the planet. The man did what he had to do to preserve his work. It’s such a shame to see what is happening to the Jewish people worldwide once again. History always repeats itself.
That l must say was extremely interesting...l have always admired these cars...makes it more interesting with the story behind it....even with the involvement of the Nazi's...he was a very clever man....and should be remembered for his skill experience and involvement with the auto industry...
It is a very interesting program. When I was a young boy in California our family Doctor had a Porsche. I thought it an amazing car. Shiny green and fast. He had been a field surgeon in the American Army in the Netherlands WWII. I was sick with a high fever. He made a house call. I remember it in our driveway. Just a question if anyone can answer. I went back to the Netherlands to visit family with my Dad . I saw a small red Porsche farm tractor in an agricultural working museum. It was likely made between the Wars or just after. I've worked on farms and love old tractors. Does anyone know about Porsche farm equipment?
Sure .. the moral dilemma of one time period compared with another time period .. Jefferson had slaves .. Great kings have slaves .. maybe some saints in the Bible had slaves .. It's like eating meat .. if you're raised in a society where eating meat is considered a despicable act .. and there are many reasons why it is .. It's all frame of reference .. it's where your head is coming from .. In a century, people might say about a great leader today .. ya, but he ate meat ..
@user-mc2pj3qo3d "... the moral dilemma of one time period compared with another time period ..." Needs to be said loudly and more often. Ancestral sin, the sins or iniquities of one generation passing to another is a battle cry today.
Spunds like we was a proper nazi to me and should have been treated accordingly ..he had the means to leave germany like Einstein and countless others..he chose to be a nazi and everything that went with it
I think Porche put his passion for innovation and development before political alliance, but I don't think we can excuse the enthusiasm for the Nazi regime as just tolerance. A flawed( very) genius.
I good agree. I just don’t think it’s fair to call him a “Nazi collaborator” when he was a German citizen who was very involved with manufacturing of vehicles all wide variety. Both military and civilian. They options given by the government at the time was to either go along and manufacture for the regime or it would be would be taken away and used for regime without you. One good example is the Junkers family and their airplane factories
While number of super riche did INCREASE last decades, what went parralel with INCREASE of poverty in society. Too the sportcar EXPENSIVE SEGMENT could not profit. Destruction of super riche speed TOO INCREASED. 2nd hand occasion market INCREASED, cutting manufacturers out.
Electric cars would never have been "green" for sure in those days, so ridiculous to even suggest that. Even for today it's still highly debatable! Do not be fooled!
A brain gone too soft and submissive. I used to adore his cars, but no more since i listened to this. It is unfortunate that we fine so many sad surprises.
He only spent years 5 in a Russian jail in East Germany . And never charged with war crimes. And he used slave labor. And 35.000 people died because of him.
An unfortunate relationship with Hitler and the Nazis. But, it's real, it happened, can't be denied. It's a terrible shame because his cars are amazing works of art and technology. Such much HP and Torque in a relatively small engine displacement. A beautiful body design that is relatively unchanged for decades.

If the population were a fraction of what it is we would be better off...there are 3/4 billion people dying of hunger
Correction at 13:31: It was the late 19th century, not late 1900’s. 🙂
Love your content guys! Thanks For this!😊😊😊
I wonder how he'd feel if he can see what a Porsche 911 Turbo S can do. Bro change the world forever

Excellent answer. What a wise man.
99.99999989999999% of the Porsche customers dont care
@@Dogsrcute823 99% of all people shouldn’t care
Brilliant episode, thanks to all involved.
Thanks for this, your content is so good!
Excellent work , really interesting thanks.
“In the beginning I looked around but couldn’t find the car I dreamt of, so I build it myself.”
Ferdinand Porsche
Actually Ferry Porsche.

My favorite cars. I have owned two. Getting another.. ❤❤
So amazing how Porshe Mercedes Volkswagen and other foreign cars are still around to this day!
An excellent episode. Thankyou.
Listening from Mackinac Island Michigan
greetings from just outside of Detroit
I came home from the hospital when I was born in an 85 targa Porsche all the way
Cool I came home in a 56 Buick!! No infant seats or baby seat. I laid across my mom's lap in the front seat! 😮😮😮

Great video.
Overall, this channel has put out some very good product
I own a Mercedes and those are my favorite and was built ahead of its time. But I never drove a Porshe.
The Porsche car itself is a very interesting story, very unique strategy
Great biography!
Interesting video

The man was genius and a patriot. A credit to our human family
Well, not that I'd ever buy a Porsche, but I definitely wouldn't now. I'll do my own research to check.
I’ve own 8 and currently a cayenne

Im a big Porsche fan their racecars are awesome.
Bravo !
So was ford
Who does this serve? Mitsubishi made Japans fighter planes during WW2. Dig up something that makes us better as people now!
If in the near future I have the opportunity to buy a luxury sports car, I would think several times before buying a Porsche, VolksWagen, Audi!
Please do a video on Henry Ford and his history of Antisemitism and how he tried to perpetuate Nazi ideology here in America.
I think he was a German going along with Hitlers plan to Make Germany Great Again. Uh oh. Nevermind.
The man pictured in the thumbnail of this video is not Ferdinand Porsche. I'm assuming it's an actor that might have played him at some point.
Can you guys do a biography of Mohammad Zahir Shah?
@DonnellOkafor-pd7yn He was the last King of Afghanistan.
Do Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler
I think he was cynical to say that Hitler didn't know about the roller coaster.
He was the real jenious
I think the presenters of this video forgot another of Ferdinand Porsches designs during WWII tank named the Maus or mouse
Well, according to all the Putin fans, Zelensky is also a Nazi so I’m just gonna keep my Porsche anyway
AS A GERMAN INDUSTRIALIST THIS GENTLEMAN IS REQUIRED BY LAW TO SUPPORT THE GERMAN WAR EFFORT THE TITLE MAKES NO SENSE
"Auf die Tube drücken, Gas und Gummi geben !"
Burschias Porsche, not related
Please come up for air between paragraphs, had to stop watching after just a few minutes due to narrator
Thank you
The same could be said about Henry Ford.
Yes! Henry Ford was a major Antisemite and agreed with the Nazi ideology. I’d buy a Porsche before a Ford, any day.

Benz screwd Porsche. Ferrari insulated Lamborghini and in return he belittled McLaren. Anyone who has ever bought a car knows it's a dirty business.

The narrator sounds like the Thomas the Tank Engine voice actor. Same guy?
44:20 were those charges " Donald Trump" ed up?
Yea, all 34 of them😢😮😅😅😂
Meaning, that they were all valid charges? I know Trump’s are and so do those who haven’t drunk his Kool-Aid and been brainwashed by him.
He was walking a fine line
Any video about IBM?
Even with a Kaiser Porsche would have done plenty for the Car industry.Polticians around the World are still "in Bed" Aerms Industry.
I will never ever buy anything Porsche or Volkswagen
Electric cars would never have been "green" for sure in those days, so ridiculous to even suggest that. Even for today it's still highly debatable! Do not be fooled!
911 Turbo from the 80s was my dream car, when I was a kid.
Can you please make a video on Napoleon the III
I love my Panamera
A brain gone too soft and submissive. I used to adore his cars, but no more since i listened to this. It is unfortunate that we fine so many sad surprises.
And renault still builds dogshit
Some things don’t add up.
How were there such grand buildings before automobiles???
Horse and buggy would never!
Can you do Merian C Cooper the guy who has made the legendary movie in history 👏
That would make a great video. He led a full an interesting life. His/the original with Fay Wray is still my favourite version of that film.
It wasn't a volkswagon until after the war! It's the kdf wagon!
He only spent years 5 in a Russian jail in East Germany . And never charged with war crimes. And he used slave labor. And 35.000 people died because of him.
God blessed the Germans
😂😂😂😂
Ach die liebe I lived there for 7 yrs I'm fond of Germany definitely but it's not wonderland
And he stayed in Germany after the war and didn't sell out to the highest bidder like Einstein or Von Braun.
Love cars but could never bring myself to own one built by a Nazi.
But I suppose Ford is OK even though Henry thought the world of Hitler and hated Jews.
German man who witnessed the Empire and WWI supported Germany.
So what... a better time
