I drove a 1956 Porsche 356A Speedster for 10 years in the mid 1970's. I had more fun driving fast on mountain roads in Santa Cruz County in California. Although it required more basic maintenance than more modern vehicles at the time I still enjoyed driving it. I finally sold it to a Ford engineer who lived locally for $10K. Purchased it for $2600 in about 1970. Great design, fantastic handling. Great memories thanks to Feri Porsche.

Even if electric engines had taken off instead of petroleum-based engines, we'd still be in much of the same mess we're in today. Yes, it would have decreased some of the carbon footprint, but the bigger influence of oil was its effects on food production and fertilizer. In fact, that's the central reason why we're not getting off of fossil fuels anytime soon, whether we switch to electric cars or not. It's not just our cars. We literally eat oil, and our global population would be only a tiny fraction of what it is today without it.
In fact, I recommend a documentary on Fritz Haber, the German chemist who revolutionized the production of fertilizer.

I owned a red 1982 Porsche 911RS Carrera. I loved the car, the association with Hitler, not so much. As an undergraduate, I had a philosophy professor who was a Rabbi and a Holocaust survivor. He drove a Mercedes 6.9 and a Porsche. I asked him how he could buy a car with that heritage. He said, "Revenge, Kenny...Revenge." RIP - Rebi

Excellent historical information and on balance, fairly presented. No one builds cars like the Germans and I’ve owned them all in my 70 years on the planet. The man did what he had to do to preserve his work. It’s such a shame to see what is happening to the Jewish people worldwide once again. History always repeats itself.

Everyone likes to ignore the Chevrolet Corvair to the 911 connection... You see, in 1959-60 Porsche was building a flat 4, making about 36 HP. Chevrolet came out with their flat 6, 90-110 HP. in 1960. Porsche wanted a flat 6, but could not solve the center cylinder cooling problem.... By 1965 Porsche has hired the Chevrolet engineer, who also was a aircraft radial engine designer. To solve Porsche's 6 cylinder cooling problem. and that is the rest of the story.... So, when you snooty Porsche guys see a Corvair on the road, tip your hat to your pappy... Germans HATE this truth.

It is a very interesting program. When I was a young boy in California our family Doctor had a Porsche. I thought it an amazing car. Shiny green and fast. He had been a field surgeon in the American Army in the Netherlands WWII. I was sick with a high fever. He made a house call. I remember it in our driveway. Just a question if anyone can answer. I went back to the Netherlands to visit family with my Dad . I saw a small red Porsche farm tractor in an agricultural working museum. It was likely made between the Wars or just after. I've worked on farms and love old tractors. Does anyone know about Porsche farm equipment?

Sure .. the moral dilemma of one time period compared with another time period ..
Jefferson had slaves .. Great kings have slaves .. maybe some saints in the Bible had slaves ..
It's like eating meat .. if you're raised in a society where eating meat is considered a despicable act .. and there are many reasons why it is ..
It's all frame of reference .. it's where your head is coming from ..
In a century, people might say about a great leader today .. ya, but he ate meat ..

      I good agree.
I just don’t think it’s fair to call him a “Nazi collaborator” when he was a German citizen who was very involved with manufacturing of vehicles all wide variety. Both military and civilian.
They options given by the government at the time was to either go along and manufacture for the regime or it would be would be taken away and used for regime without you. One good example is the Junkers family and their airplane factories

An unfortunate relationship with Hitler and the Nazis. But, it's real, it happened, can't be denied. It's a terrible shame because his cars are amazing works of art and technology. Such much HP and Torque in a relatively small engine displacement. A beautiful body design that is relatively unchanged for decades.
