I usually build up in industry in Alabama. It has coal, iron, and lead. Plus a little oil later on. But importantly, building industry in the South shifts the power from landowners to industrialists. Georgia is good for textiles, and Louisiana is good for paper/fertilizer. I haven't had a civil war in my games for quite awhile now. By the 1850's the political landscape shifts enough that you can pass slavery banned, no problem. I've played 5 or 6 U.S. games doing this now, and it consistently works through patch changes.
@25:30 New Mexico and/or Arizona is a Dixie homeland despite having no Dixies in it. So you cannot reach 20% of 0. Found out about this when googled around for this problem. Either you use greener pasture to lure some in or you use a mod that reworks the reconstruction journal entry so it only requires 90% of Dixie homelands to be satisfied :D Also you can get Afro Americans to be your primary culture, if you pass multiculturalism for +60 acceptance (not even cultural exclusion would suffice because it would bring them up to only +50 acceptance)
I’d be curious to see the Confederate run. A more agrarian power, more stratified society holding onto slavery for longer. Most videos on TH-cam are all about hyper industrializing, less on becoming the world’s breadbasket and textile supplier with cheap labor
Also Ulysses was an Ohioan, my home state. Missouri was apart of the Union but was a border state meaning it allowed slavery. There were 5 border states: Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri, and West Virginia but WV is interesting since it seceded from Virginia during the war.
I love how Ludi keeping saying whatever nation he is playing is the most overpowered nation in the game. Britain, France, Russia, China, even Belgium is the most overpowered nation in the game!
12:31 In France, we have someone like that too. He started in the French Army in 1870, then fought on the Versailles side during the Paris Commune, fought during WW1 and was a major participant in the battle of Verdun and finished his career with WW2 fighting in the french Résistance. He was almost awarded the title of "Maréchal de France", the highest military title. It's the Général de Castelnaud.
13:50 Ecuador had a severe hyperinflation crisis in the late 90s along with really bad financial policies. To save their economy the Ecuadorian government dropped their currency and shifted to the USD and offered to exchange the old currency for a time. And it saved their economy, as it didn't go into freefall. But there were many that lost everything. And since the USD is the worlds reserve currency it should remain stable compared to the rest of the world. Interesting factoid, we made a dollar coin back then called the Sacagawea dollar. Most Americans didn't like it, because paper dollars were lighter, but they are all the rage down in Ecuador.
The reason the us uses $ is cuz a merchant (oliver pollock) living in Pensacola during the war did massive amounts of trading for the states and he used $ as his symbol. In the end he was congress was so indebt to him most papers just has a $ on it so we kept it
The Dixie as primary is a bug, I had Yankee, Afro-American and *not* Dixie as primaries and when I established Charter Companies their cultures were Yankee and Dixie, that said at least Afro-American was recognized as primary for pop-acceptance, but it would have been nice for the Colonies
Thank you soooooooo much Ludi for doing another run on America. USA and Japan are my current favorite countries to play so im always happy to see you play one of them. Also are you planning on, or will you, make a video on trying to restore India as fast as possible? I'm sure your community would love to see it! Also thanks for your hard and dedicated work!
16:58 for sure but all the credit to Lilcoln Cabinet. The populace werent ethuatist early on and Without the army reforms and general Grant's genralship it's likely the union would succumb to politcal issues and given up on the war because of even greater casualties for less ground. Over half a million people in a country with a 32 million died. Majority from the union but since dixies made up 8 mill out 32 it quite literally meant they able and willing to lose about a quarter of fighting age population. Every other war the US has fought is dwarf by the civil war.
When I first started victoria 3, there were barely any mods on it. Now, there are interesting mods ranging from fighting zombies to be able to have 8 principles in powerblock or even automatic scripts that would make the private sector easier to be controllable. Would you be able to show a mod playthrow in the future or maybe try to have some top of the mods that you find out useful? (They will not affect the achievements)
Fun fact: I played USA in Vicky 2 like four times or so and without any intention never got civil war. My first run was bad (well, not really, because it is so OP), but second and third I just steam rolled. Fourth I got bored a bit and it was one that I'd call really unlucky, but still I didn't see civil war. I wonder why? Most fun of course was always Prussia, but surprisingly I enjoyed China, humiliating Russia again and again with endless cavalry hordes. It was so broken... I think I visited Poland like five times before 1880's. :D :D :D
11:52 the people in the United States have guns. England has it's tea, Russia and it's Vodka, Spain and their siestas, and France with wine. Also the game can't replicate the few states that are supposed to be neutral in the civil war. Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Missouri are those states, and maybe Delaware I'm not 100% sure on that one though. Also West Virginia didn't exist until the Civil War started, but the game can't replicate that either. California was also on the side of the Union despite being the only recognized state in the western half of the country.
Ludi brother, show us how to play with the minus deficit of budget while actually getting money. Its not easily portaited. Another thing how the privatization of building happen? Do we toggle it manually or happens automatically with lessaiz fair? Merry Xmas and happy new year from Greece. xxx
Laissez fair forces privatisations so it’s automatic. Other laws allow you to toggle it on and off. If negative income is white it means your economy growth is higher than the rate of deficit. As a great or major power you can go into debt because the interest is low, as an unrecognised nation you basically can never go into debt because the interest is so rough it will annihilate your eco.
