Charlie Ruggles was the CONSUMMATE voiceover......here for Aesop. Also Charlie played Margaret Drysdale's card shark Daddy, on "The Beverly Hillbillies." Loved his character and voice!
As a child none of gave much thought to the time line of events of this tale of Aesop and Son. Nice to relive childhood cartoons. The generation now would not appreciate what these cartoons gave this generation who watched Aesop and Son. TH-cam is great for a number of things, including this video and others
Charlie Ruggles = Voice of Aesop Daws Butler = Voice of Aesop Junior and various male characters in stories June Foray = Voices of various female characters in stories
Yes, Jay Ward's Hollywood staff produced this one [with Baldwin]...around the time they produced the first two "HOPPITY HOOPER" chapters, also with an original Dennis Farnon score (and Baldwin).
It seems like Gerard Baldwin animated this, instead of the usual Gamma Productions----and from what I seem to notice, anything Baldwin animated had more music involved. Never knew the music guy's name....I also wonder why Aesop & Son changed hair color later on to blond (one scene has Son's hair blue here!)....
I noticed the Farnon music....to add confusion, I have a "Fractured Fairy Tale", "Cinderella Returns", with the John Seely Capitol Hi-Q music (Philip Green's "Custard Pie Capers" used in "Snooper and Blabber") and the "Ugly Duckling" with a melodrama piece oft-used in "Quick Draw McGraw". Regardless ANY music in a Ward production DOES sound odd! There's a Toledo Ohio reference, by the Daws Butler voiced fox, to the birthplace of Daws!
Not true. The networks, the advertising agency, and the sponsor were all afraid of certain aspects of Ward's shows. The Peabody's Improbable History segments especially spooked them because of the ethnic caricatures, and the lampooning of famous historical figures. They were also concerned about the violence in some of the cartoons.
A lot of people think the crude animation from Gamma gave the earlier Jay Ward shows a charm. In my opinion, however, the animation and artwork done in Hollywood, such as that for this short, easily outshines the outsourced products.
I am still waiting for them to use the “Wilke” button in another fable..😂! My hats is off to Jay Ward and company for creating this “Children’s?” Program…😂😂😂! Have a great day!
These shorts were basically "Fractured Fairy Tales" given an Aesop flavor. They even had the same theme music! (This particular upload uses the 1961 theme music, just like the DVDs.)
Just showed this to my 13 year old son. He was bothered that I was distracting him from his video games. The wisdom of timeless fables is lost on today’s children.
I'll tell you what happened to shows like these: they were replaced with garbage that little kids watch because most kids these days wouldn't know a good quality cartoon if it leapt up and bit them. of course the people at fault here are the parents who don't show their kids the golden oldies they and their parents grew up watching.
I would suggest avoiding all children's programming after about 1998 or so. It has steadily gone downhill ever since the FCC took hold of what children can watch. It will probably never get close to this ever again. I am forever hopeful that we can re-capture the magic somehow, but it does not seem likely in the near future.
i think the winking horse is about a conman who knows its a con and lets you in on it wink wink and then meets some mark who can't get conned but i am still thinking about this one, which is really convoluted (some are fairly straight forward, not this one!)
ok..yeah, i was wondering why I was confused. growing up i read a lot of african folk stories and the books always depicted Aesop as black. Thanks for assuring me that I'm not crazy for being a little perplexed.
What Fucking PC liberal Bullshit......We are all sick of these Mental Tampons who are just shake-down Racist in the Good Ol' USA....NOW THAT TRUMP, IS PRESIDENT....THERE'S A MAN, IN THE HOUSE...

No wonder it sticks out pretty well!
That fox sounds like snidely whiplash
That's funny. He was played by a different actor than Snidely Whiplash.

This was produced in-house at Jay Ward Productions in Hollywood.
This was also produced around the time the first two chapters of “Hoppity Hooper” were produced
ROCKY&BULLWINKLE 🤗 SUCH GREAT (OVER THE HEAD) STORIES, THE FLYING SQUIRREL,(JOAN FORAY)! FANTASTIC 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
The fox should have just asked people to pony up.

I was impressed to hear it (also live in Toledo, OH)!
These parodies of fairy tales and fables do actually have a little moral message in them.
Watching as an old man 60 years. 2024
The wonderful days of way back when life was good and was clean TV shows as this that make you laugh
0:05 the fractured fairy tales theme song
back when captain pc was safely locked away in a deep dark dungeon chained upside down to a wall
I thought Cap'n "PC" was the spawn of satan?
Back before butthurtdom

Love gumballs.
Brilliant
They don't make cartoons like the old days
I am still waiting for them to use the “Wilke” button in another fable..😂!

Thank You for posting this - we laughed and ejoyed

the aesop ones seem more political/moralizing, the fft's seem more about basic life lessons.
Because Fractured Fsirry Tales.
music presence in this ENITIRE JAY WARD produciton always made it seem like another farm-out..
Nope. This was produced in-house. It was not outsourced.
And this is the origin story on how Australia was made by a horse
Yeah a lot of winkers in Australia 🇦🇺
Lol 😂😂
Even the grammar was correct....but these are now considered bad cartoons;...yeah....right.
Dud.ey do right
reminds me of the movie Looker
Where did Western towns and trains and horses come from in Aesop's time?
Parallel realities
It's called an anachronism.
Animated mainly by Gerry Baldwin. You can tell from his posing...
SUCH A GREAT LEARNING !HELP ME,MR.WIZARD😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
"Don't swap horses... stand by Hoover" is one of the political buttons ;)
LOL!! Hoover ...well, Hoover, as president (and due to the way he tried to deal with the incipient Great Depression)....he (forgive the pun) sucked!
youre beautiful and bright!
2:35 he just like messing around with you
2:37😂😂😂😂
Just showed this to my 13 year old son. He was bothered that I was distracting him from his video games. The wisdom of timeless fables is lost on today’s children.

this series was amazing; idk how / if it could be done today.
Ok
What cartoon was it that had the tobacco pies?
The Pied Piper
There was no good reason why the horse couldn't wink at the end.
i think the winking horse is about a conman who knows its a con and lets you in on it wink wink and then meets some mark who can't get conned
but i am still thinking about this one, which is really convoluted (some are fairly straight forward, not this one!)
😉
YOU hit the nail on the head!!! Also, they don't want to deal with kids..... Just throw them a HALO game.... or some other crap!!!!

Pfunny cartoon.
Trump hates Bullwinkle and Canada. Trump's whole life is a fable!
Good ol' USA Racism! Aesop goes from Ethiopian to Blonde! Still, I loved this cartoon, even after I discovered the truth
