Why is a Triangle with sides 3, 7, 11 IMPOSSIBLE?

For any side in a triangle, the sum of the other two sides must be greater.

I'd like to see what the alarm on the screen says, when programing it into a computerized machine tool.
I'm guessing It could be any number of alarms, one of which having something to do with tool nose inability to reach a proper end point.
Thankfully, the machining process will not even start because of built in look ahead features.

I’m confused. If I cut 3 pieces do wood in those dimensions and glued them together, would they not make a triangle?

You could glue the 7 piece directly to the 3 piece in a straight line, it would make a piece 10 units long, which is less than the 11 piece. These three pieces can never form a triangle. The best you can make of it is a 3 sided shape which is open on one end.

if the 2 sides of 3 and 7 were straight-lined they would total 10. The side of length 11 would exceed this 10.

Pythagoras only works on right angle triangles. You can't use pythagorean theroem with scalene, acute and obtuse triangles right out of the box.

Here is a funny I quit school on because of math when you talk about math, speak English I was lost and hide weeds I never grab the concept of math

Maybe you never had a good teacher that inspires you or made you more curious about it. I had good teacher in 2nd, 3rd, 4th grades. On my 5th grade, I had a terrible, dregs of a math teacher, almost made me lose interest in math in 1 year. Luckly, I bounced back. I had the same fantastic math teacher for 6th, 7th grade that made hungry for more information and challenged me like never before. That teacher was a dedicated teacher who was working close to 12 hrs a day, but always manages to tutor anyone on his free period.

The sum of any two sides will always be greater than the remaining side. In this case 7+3 is not greater than 11.

short answer is because of the triangle inequality theorem. This theorem is basically this , the sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle must be greater than the length of the third side.

The square root of 58 is NOT equal to 11.

Great and fun reviewing
In math I always got straight A s constantly, probably because I loved it. And I would spend any amount of time required to figure out every math equation.
But that was 40 years ago, your simple problems I can always figure out by pausing the video and doing the equation.
But,,, these questions should have been almost mental math only and done quickly.
No way could i ever do the math that I once did.
THANKS, now I’m hooked on your videos and looking for my old algebra books in a box in the garage
I’m on the case now, it’s going to be fun as you already know because it’s how we are wired.
Never taught math but I was always the class tutor starting in 5th grade.

It might not be a right triangle, but it could be a triangle of different measure. Some can find the area with a= sqrt of s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c) where (a+b+c) /2 =s. Has anyone seen this?
