I loooveee how timoune and her mother both sing the ‘ can’t you see how much this matters to me.’ Really shows how they are seeing the situation of Daniel coming to the village
Yes! And when they both said I know what's best and can't you see that he's in terrible danger, what must I do? The narrative is so good in this song. There's so much story telling. It perfectly shows each person's perspective.
Just saw this show today on Broadway and let me say, this is hands down the best musical I've ever seen. if you ever have a chance to see it, go. you won't regret it.
We preformed this in school, of course it was the jr version, but instead of saying “a car has crashed/a boy is hurt” the girl playing her accidentally said “A car is hurt! A boy has crashed!”
my best friend played ti moune and when she way supposed to belt out she cut off too early and it sounded weird i've personally never been through anything like that but yeah it's fucking scary my guy
In the production I saw, the "pray" lines were soooooo cool. Papa Ge stands over him in every one, and they gradually become more terrifying. Like, it ends with them in a hooded robe standing over Daniel's body, flapping arms like wings slowly. Theres eye markings on the hood so it looks like some terrifying hawk beast. It's the coolest effect ever.
I loved playing mama Euralie in the Jr version, this song is so intense and was always my favorite. I hope one day I can reprise my role in the full version.

Its a Voodoo prayer, a sacrificial prayer, it’s creole. This particular creole is a mix between French and Yoruba. It’s Its a call to the gods of the island to accept the sacrifice that’s being made. Why is “Papa Ge is coming back” actually like a terrifying line that’s better than most content in movies.

The villagers are narrating this part, and they think the Gods are angry because they don't know that the Gods orchestrated the car crash
They think she's going against the gods by saving him instead of letting him die in the crash
Dang the intensity in this is INSANE. (Also hehe I’m the 69th comment 😏)
