    He was actually suffering a minor breakdown/panic attack. He thought he had just thrown the whole Ryder Cup away for the americans.

      His mind was somewhere else, after leaving the green he went and cried for hours on the beach, and worked himself up so much that he became dizzy and needed medical attention. He only sort of calmed down later when the Americans prevailed; he was under the impression he’d blown the whole Cup for the US team
