By far the best showing of how to make a tanoor and how to use the oven. Love the spinach pies and mohamra. So similar food and oven to what is common in nearby Syria. Mabruk Hatay province

Hi Allison, they use a small round pillow or cushion to stick the dough on the walls of tandır.

Thanks for sharing this! Would you be able to please translate in English what the tandoor builder put in the clay and what is the inside of the tandor painted with, I was wondering if they used limewash?

There used to be a website demonstrating experimental anthropologists using one of these hand-built tandoor pots and placing it at an angle on rock foundation, then built a 3-sided brick shelter and built a shelf/table of mud surrounding the tandoor to the mouth of the pot. I can't find it anymore, if anyone has the link please share it with me! I can't remember the name of the structure or the country they built it in, but I believe it was a communal tandoor for a village.

Thanks for your info this is very helpful info for me! BTW have you seen DateFarmer's rocket kitchen, it can reach upto 700 deg celsius and they can cook pizza, cakes and turkey as well as use it as a kiln to fire bricks without cracking..

I'm wondering how Indians manage to stick a whole chicken to the side when doing tandoori chicken o:

I did it oven during your instruction and the fraction of the pot material which you recommend was broken eye of my baby.
My baby is now blind . The health inspectors said that the flower pot is not good for tandoori oven, because is not enough resistant for hot temperatures. I am worrying everybody, please do not do that.
