    This is a style of square dancing which I have never seen before. I suppose that it is historical. It looks like a lot of fun.

      I see English, Scottish, Irish, and German. I thinks it's a conglomeration of the different ethnic groups that settled the west. I wouldn't be surprised if there were Scandinavian influences as well. I don't know enough about Scandinavian dance to see it though.

    Just as we have called eastern Appalachian dancing, cued contra dance, clogging, and hoedown this side of the Mississippi (TN).....(most involving lines, circles, and hand work as well as heavy duty exercise) there is western hoedown and traditional circle and reel dancing, often involving clogging and arm lifts and likewise lots of energy. There is called square dance that is hoe down style with lots of repetition for couples in the formation. Idaho is a wonderful example of natural beauty, charming communities, and agricultural plots as far as the eye can see. Western square dancing we see now around the world is a composite of many of the activities used til now.

Idaho, looks like a festival. And damn, that person posting before me seems mad. I'm pro-immigration as long as those immigrating are not criminals, willing to integrate & uphold the values our country has been built upon over time.
      Right now, we have 2 extremes that are too vocal imo, 1 more than the other. One extreme like the prev reply. The other more vocal side for reasons unknown to me want "no borders," not to revamp the walls of our southern border, blame ICE & just let everyone in unchecked. None of those positions make sense if one truly cares about the immigrants coming in, their safety & their ability to succeed.
      By letting ppl in unchecked, the very criminality they are trying to escape comes in too & poison their communities. The increased crime leads to a devaluing of the community & lessens the chances of those in that community to become successful due to businesses not wanting to be around dangerous communities

      @@Dang3rMouSe Multiculturalism creates racism and that's fact. Many cultures clash with the others and become lost over time killing other cultures in the process. I have a love hate relationship with the fact that America is a melting pot. Sure people come here for a better life but still wish to keep their traditions/cultures, but with that comes lots of risks as well. Comes with constant competition and will ultimately lead to racism.

    I enjoyed the video but I would not consider that traditional square dancing. I have been square dancing since 1996 and we have to learn certain moves and we dance to a caller who choreographs the moves.. Once you lean the moves, you can go anywhere in the world and dance because square dancing is always done in English..

      If you've never danced something similar to this, you won't understand that is the most fun part of dancing! It's absolutely exhilarating to be swung/"thrown" by a guy IF you trust that he is strong enough to keep you safe... I strongly suggest that you try this type of dancing as soon as possible...

    I don't remember lifts in gym class when it was square dancing week. It would have made square dancing a lot more interesting and entertaining. Same with the spoons. I don't think they do square dancing in PE anymore. Dieing art.

    • @stalstonestacy4316
      @stalstonestacy4316 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason you don't remember lifts in square dancing is because there are none. This isn't square dancing, it's beautiful and fun and historical and I'd love to learn it but it is not square dancing. My husband and I belong to and regularly participate in a square dance club that goes to the state and national conventions. This is a form of folk dance similar to what we call hoedown style here in the Appalachian region. Square Dance you will remember requires the formation of one or more squares consisting of no less than 4 and no more than 6 couples and deals exclusively with symmetrical movement in patterns. Also, I had square dance in gym class too and you really should find a club and give it another go. What was generally taught in gym class is like comparing the hokey-pokey to the ballet, lol. There's so much more to it
